Doglover50 Hey everyone! Prep for finals is insane but don't worry the school year is almost over! And once it is I can get caught up on tons of reading (not to mention posting)! Just warning those of you that loved Of Poseidon that Of Triton is out on may 28.

Doglover50 I just read the book This is What Happy Looks Like. It is the story of a romance that was doomed from the start. A movie star sends accidentally sends an email to a girl who lives across the country. For him it's an escape to a life where HE matters, not his name. For the girl it's the mystery of talking with someone she has never met. When Graham's movie shoot is scheduled in the Ellie's hometown they finally meet. As their romance develops Ellie has a secret that makes being a part of his overexposed life impossible. I loved the story line but was slightly disappointed by the ending, although only because I wanted the traditional perfect ending. It was very cleverly put together and the ending was perfect in it's own way.

Doglover50 Hey everyone! I'm back from spring break finally! I got to read a couple books while I was gone: Luxe, Scarlet, Lost Voices, Waking Storms, Shades of the Earth, and Destined. The Luxe is a beautifully woven story about deception and lies in upper class families. The whole book kept you guessing until the end, although the way the book started left me feeling like I had an unanswered question that was slowly being answered as the book went on. Scarlet is the second Lunar Chronicles book. Cinder is back and starting her mission to save the world from Queen Levana's (spelled right?) rule. Along the way she  meets Scarlet and Wolf who are each living out their own part of the story that always leads back to the Lunars. I'll bet you can guess which fairy tale Scarlet and Wolf are from. Don't worry, Prince Kai is back and he hasn't forgotten Cinder. Lost Voices and Waking storms are about mermaids who were once human. A god took pity on the abused daughters of the human world and gave them the ability to change into a mermaid. When this happens to Luce she begins to question the ways of the mermaids. Is killing humans really necessary? Luce not be the ideal protagonist but she struggles to do what's right even if it means being alone in the dangerous ocean. Shades of the Earth is the last Across the Universe book. It's the moment the Godspeed had be waiting for, reaching the new planet. What will they find when the touch down a couple hundred years behind schedule though? The monsters that supposedly cover the planet? Or is it something else? I loved this book, and the ending was perfect for the trilogy. Destined was the final book in the Wings series. Laurel, Tamani, and even the human friends must unite to defend Avalon. This book is all out war and when it ends Avalon is changed forever. Oh yeah not to mention the love triangle is finally solved. If you love fantasy like me then I recommend the Wings series. Also, I would like to pose a question to you that was brought up in the Across the Universe trilogy. My class just finished performing Romeo and Juliet. The thing is that the span of the story happens over a short week. Romeo falling out of love with Rosaline, then into love with Juliet, then marrying, then the death. Juliet was 13 and Romeo was about 16 or 17 (not that age really matters when it comes to love but still). Amy from across the universe said that wasn't really what love looked like. So: Was it really a true representation of love?

Doglover50 So I read code. Now Im going insane. WHY?! That was the worst way to leave off! And the next book comes out next spring! Ugh. So anyway if you haven't checked into the virals world that I'm alway ranting about, now is the time to do it. I need someone else to complain to! This amazing series follows four smarter than average teens through their average high school day as they struggle with rich snobs and tapping their canine DNA. In a way these books are like maximum ride but slightly more low key (no bloody fights with erasers). In code the kids find a geocache that leads them on a deadly treasure hunt. If they succeed they save hundreds of lives but if they don't the game master will get away with everything. Oh yeah and things get more complicated between Ben and Tory (read shift to see Bens thoughts).

Doglover50 I know what you mean! I read Pure and bought Shift but I've had barely any time to read between school and drivers Ed. FYI Pure was really good and Shift was an ebook from the virals series which I cannot compliment enough. Pure was a good dystopian/post apocalyptic read. The characters were so different and the story line was an insane "what if" about the population growing too big and the possible conspiracy to cover up what was done about it. What happens when those unaffected by the bombs go outside to the real world?

doglover50 Ive read a bunch of books since I last posted but I'm only going to tell you about one. I just read Perfect Scoundrels, the heist society book that just came out. The book came with some signature twists and another run in at the Louvre. Kat's new boyfriend's company is in trouble but sometimes there are more important things than business. This book was the perfect next installment of the series. Also, there is a free ebook out that falls in between uncommon criminals and perfect scoundrels, merging the thief world with the gallagher girls. Additionally, you have probably heard that the second book of the lunar chronicles is out. There is also an ebook that can be read on tor.com which ties in with Scarlet. I can't wait to read Scarlet!

doglover50 Ugh. Wisdom teeth surgery not fun. My cheeks are swollen like a chipmunk! On the plus side I got to buy all five gregor the overlander books and reread them in one day:) I also read The Future of Us. A girl logs onto her AOL account and finds a site (Facebook) fifteen years in her future. She soon starts trying to fix her future before it happens and makes a discovery about why her future might suck. I reccommend this book if you want an easy fun read set in the past and looking to the the future (now).

doglover50 I'm studying the Cuban Missile Crisis in school and it reminded me of a book. The Countdown is a book set in the 60s when a missile could be sent from Cuba to anywhere in the US at any time. This book follows Fannie through her daily life during that time. I think it really shows how kids felt during that time, I mean they had no idea what was going on! I would definetly reccommend this book even if you aren't a history buff. There are a bunch of pictures and clippings that go along with the historical part to add to the fictional story. On another note what are you girls most looking forward to for Christmas? I personally just love the holiday cheer, and would it snow already?!!

Doglover50 The Elite comes out April 23, 2013. Too. Long. The Elite is the second book in the selection trilogy. If you haven't read it I highly recommend it, after all you have plenty of time until the next release:) the Selection is a book about America Singer who was named after this great country. It is a futuristic book set it a time when we fall back into a monarchy caste system. Prince Maxon is looking for a princess and she can come from any of the castes. This book kind of reminds me of a less violent hunger games. A bunch of girls from different castes are trying to win over prince Maxons heart and be queen. There is a love triangle involved and America is alot like katniss personality wise. I suggest you read it and tell me if you agree Additional note: the red dress on the cover of the elite is beautiful. I loved the one on the cover of the selection too.... Blue, Red, ...White? Perhaps a white dress for the third book symbolizing red white and blue of the US flag? Also it could be her wedding dress!!! After all wouldn't she get married to either Maxon or Aspen in the third book...?

doglover50 The other books I've read recently were Divergent, Dreamland, and Whisper. Divergent is definetly as good as everyone says it is. I most definetly recommend it. Dreamland and Whisper are in the Riley Bloom series. If you have ever read evermore and the other books by Alyson Noel you probably know what i'm talking about. Riley is a Soul Catcher. She sets out to deepen her glow and earn praise but ends up doing the opposite. In Whisper Riley finally starts to get what she wants but loses touch with reality first. I recommend this series.

9/22/2012 11:40:11 AM | Report
doglover50 his book is set in the time where Napolean was emperor and there were wars against the king. Jean Valjean became a convict after trying to steal bread for his family. The brutality he goes through over that tiny act makes me so mad. They were poor and he was just trying to stay alive! After his long prison sentence was over Valjean had changed. He wanted revenge. Valjean stole silver from a priest and got caught. The priest said he had given Valjean the silver and it was to buy his freedom from his sins. Valjean began to change and later became a priest himself. Javert was still determined to throw Valjean in jail regardless of wether he changed or not. Fantine was a beautiful young women in love. One day her lover left her and was never to be seen again. This ruined Fantine because she had his child. When Fantine and her child reached the Thenardiers they were poor but had rich clothes. Fantine asked the Thenardiers to look after her daughter as she would send money for her care. The Thenardiers watched over Cosette, Fantine's daughter, alright. They treated her as a servant, sold her clothes, and meanwhile treated their own daughters as princesses. The Thenardiers demanded more and more money as Cosette grew, making excuses about why they needed it when not a penny went to Cosette herself. Fantine sold everything she had thinking that it was going to Cosette when in all actuality Cosette was worse off than before. The Thenardiers soon demanded more money than Fantine had. The only option was for Fantine to sell her beautiful teeth because they would fetch a good price. The part that makes me so mad is that Fantine began to be tormented on the street because being poor had ruined her looks. She was taunted for the loss of her teeth and when a man stuffed snow down the back of her dress SHE was arrested, not the man. The injustices continue throughout the book. I won't tell you anymore, only that you should read it.

ally123oxox I love the book The Land Of Stories. I finished it in one day and couldn't put it down. I recomend it to people who love action, suspence, and hummor. Read it! And I was wondering if anyone could give me books they recomend for mysteries.
