myfatsquirrel I watched the movie called Bully on Netflix yesterday. It was pretty good. It was about the lives of 5 different middle schoolers and high schoolers. One or two of them committed suicide. Death is not the answer.

fungirl123 Okay, I really want to clear this up. This is kind of related to our topic...eh. I’m really tired of people confusing “complaining” with “bullying”. (I’m going to use completely fake names) Here is an example of “complaining”: “Gosh. John is so annoying. He’s really stressing me out!” Here would be bullying him: “John is so dumb and stupid!” You see the difference? The reason that I wanted to clear this up is because, today at rehearsal, there is this kid who always forgets when he’s supposed to be on stage. So I was saying, “I’m just tired of reminding him that it’s time to be on stage!” And a girl started telling me, “You know, I thought that you were against bullying!” And I said, “There’s a difference between VENTING and bullying. That was called venting. I AM against bullying. But I’m not perfect!” Ugh.

fungirl123 For Asset Team, we're doing this thing called Smile Grams. We go into homerooms and tell them that they can write a note anonymously or not to someone and they have to say something nice. They can write as many as they want and those who don't get written to, we write something nice about them. :D

fungirl123 @Cayley - great story! :) The time that I bullied someone was when I was in an argument with my best friend "T" (let's call her).. Well, she wanted to be an actress and a singer. Her family was so freaking supportive of her and they were paying for years of lessons. When I had worked in musicals, plays, and other things for years and my parents still always said “No.” I thought I deserved a lot more than her! So…I think you know I was jealous. I don’t see her at school because we have no classes together so we keep up with Chat on another website. Well, when she got into talking about how famous she was going to be, T kept sending me all these links to websites about becoming famous with singing and acting. I knew I’d never get as big of a chance as her (and I felt like crying…). So, finally, I just said, “You know what? You’re a terrible singer and actress! You’ll never make it!” Once I said that, I regretted it. I never really thought that she was seriously an AMAZING singer or actress—but who is in the seventh grade? We’re back to being friends now and she still brags about being a singer and an actress. But I’ve learned to clamp my mouth shut and just change the subject. She’s always there for me now when I am said…and vice versa.

I know that when I was still in school (homeschooled now) I gossiped a lot.. and it turned out that the people I trusted and gossiped to actually never liked me all along. They manipulated me into thinking they were my friends, but repeated everything I told them too eachother and I never noticed it until one day I walked in the girls bathroom where all my “friends” were and I overheard Them saying that I was ugly and stupid and How I was so easy to use, and they talked about EVERYTHING I said… It was pathetic! When they finally noticed me they just stopped and stared at me, and I just walked out. The worst part was I never did anything to hurt them or was every catty or mean, yet they just hated me… Bullying hurts. Sometimes we just need to just stop, and think about everything we said that day, and realize that we’re not perfect but if we are the bullies we need to try and fix it, but if we are the victims, we need to get help and advice to get through it and STAND UP FOR OURSELVES. Sometimes we need to make the “bully” realize that we’re tougher than they think, and they just can’t step all over us!

fungirl123 (Background info: On Tues, everyone took a bullying survey for the Asset Team.) First, my day started off amazingly! I went up to my locker to see that I’d been accepted into NJHS (National Junior Honor Society). Then, I headed to first period to see everyone’s heads turn toward me. I asked my friend Camden what was going on and he said this kid named Joey had wrote down on his survey that I had called him a “worthless piece of sh**”…why would I say that?! And apparently, everyone believed him! I told my homebase teacher (she would’ve been a witness) and she said she’d take care of it. But, two friends of Joey heard me (Let’s call them Allie and Lauren)…so they told some people that they were going to blackmail me so I’d lie and say that I DID say that. I finally just broke down in tears at my locker. The teacher who had helped me earlier came and saw I was crying so she sent them ALL down to the Dean of Discipline’s office (The guy who gives out detentions, suspensions, expulsion, etc…) and he made them all write me an apology letter and they also all got an in-school-suspension. And after they came out, they were all glaring at me. I went home and bawled my eyes out for another hour. Why would someone lie about that??!! I didn’t think people hated me THAT much!

I go to an incredibly small school where to only bullying their is is harmless and friendly name calling. But when our Asset Team visits other schools, we see how much worse bullying gets at the larger schools. Although, my friend Amber still has cuts on her wrists from when she was cutting herself. fungirl123 I wanted to share this story with you: There was a boy who one day was completely cleaning out his locker, no one knew why. Some of the things started dropping out of the box he was using, so another kid helped him pick them up and then offered to walk with him home. They ended up talking the whole way home about school. The amazing thing about this story is: On the day of their graduation, the kid who was cleaning out his locker was the school president so he was giving a speech. He said, “One day in middle school, I was cleaning out my locker because…well…because I was going home to commit suicide and I didn’t want my mother to have to come back to the school and have to clean out my locker. But then ONE boy talked to me…and he wasn’t bullying me. He saved my life!” I cried when I heard this story! IT IS TRUE, believe it or not!! :) *I was shaking just typing this*

A picture of a teenager popped up on the screen and you had to write down if you'd like to be friends with them or not. To be honest, a lot of those people didn't look like they’d be my friends. But after that, it said their background stories. One girl, who was [what we kids would call] “emo” or “goth”, was pregnant…and surprisingly, she was at the top of her class with a 4.0 GPA! Wow, huh? That taught me a lesson about labeling! :-D

fungirl123 @Rilu – First of all, I feel for you! Why do you call these girls “friends” if all they do is mean things to you? I’ll give you props for talking to an adult about it! But sometimes, adults don’t give good advice because they don’t know what we’re going through. If you’ve already tried talking to them, time to get tough! You have a couple options: 1.) Tell THEIR parents that there children shouldn’t be using your family’s yard to get other places—It is your family’s property anyway. Or tell them that your parents would like to speak to them about how their girls have been treating you and abusing your friendship with them. 2.) Go straight up to these girls and say (not in a mean way, but in a very mature way!) “You can either start treating me with respect and like a real friend or I can tell your parents of this problem! Also, ladies, if it makes you feel better to make me feel terrible…I DON’T WANT TO BE YOUR FRIEND, AYWAY!!” That should put them in their place! I hope my advice works! fungirl123 Our Asset Team (A group of students making the school a better place) is hosting a "Mix it Up Day!" It’s something we do every year! Here’s what we do: we give ever y Middle School student a lollypop of a different color. Each table in the cafeteria has a different color on it and the child with that color lollypop has to sit there. Then we have a list of questions to ask the people at your table. The point of this is to meet a few different people from 6th, 7th and 8th grade! It’s gonna be sooooo fun! :) Luv, Haley
