volleyball514 @iluvcake2000: Touching the ball is the only way to get better, so practice as much as you can! Blocking well is a bonus for a middle hitter; try to time it so you jump up to block at the same time as the hitter. Also, work on snapping the ball down forcefully by snapping your wrist and jumping as high as you can when you hit. Try to be a good passer as well; if you can pass well, the coach will want you on the court. Hope these tips help & good luck at tryouts girl!

volleyball514 Tips for making the team: 1. Show up to as many practices as you can to show you're committed. 2. Have a good attitude and be a team player. 3. If you mess up, don't get flustered; just take a deep breath and tell yourself you'll get it right the next time. 4. Ask your coach what you should work on, and what you need to improve. 5. Practice the skills as much as possible; the only way you can get better is to TOUCH THE BALL. 6. Do your best & good luck!!

volleyball514 @foodiejr99: Speed is the key to overhand serving! Force = mass x acceleration, and you can't increase the mass of your hand, so move it faster! Also, make a routine for serving- bounce the ball twice, then draw your arm back, or something, and do it every time you serve. Make sure your toss is not too high or too low, and toss it in front of your serving hand, arms length away, to get it in the “power zone.” Serving with a heavier ball isn’t really that different- just keep practicing! volleyball514 Hey Olivia! Try to practice as much as you can, touching the ball is the only way to get better. For bumping, angle your hips & shoulders toward the target & don't fold your arms. For serving & spiking, don't get under the ball, stay behind it. Setting: make sure your wrists, elbows, & fingers are bending to quickly catch and release the ball. Be patient and practice! Januaryfairy well, not on an actual beach. Up in town, at the park they have a volleyball net up, with sad as the court. And at the harbor club too, but not the beach. The beach is the next town over. We have the boardwalk and boat launches.

volleyball514 Hey girls! You may be wondering, what's a libero? Libero is a position in volleyball that specializes in defense. Liberos must stay in the back row, behind the 10-foot line. They wear a different colored jersey and can sub in for players at any time without it counting as a substitution. Liberos are great diggers/passers, and are often short! Think you have what it takes to be a libero? :)

k8luvscake i keep it simple. i throw it up short with my left and hit it right away with my right. i know im a consistent, hard server, not braggin just saying from tracking my serves and aces. its a good way to serve if u are needing something basic.

volleyball514 3-step approach for spiking: Start with your feet together & arms at your sides, then take a big step forward with your left foot. Next step forward with your right foot while swinging your arms back. Then take a small step with the left to make your feet even while crouching down, and finally jump UP and bring up your right arm, with your hand by your ear and then snap forward at the elbow & wrist to smack the ball. Remember, always jump up, not forward into the net! P.S. If you’re a lefty like me, switch the right and left steps. :P

volleyball514 Setting 101: Form a triangle with your thumbs & index fingers & have all other fingers spread apart. Separate your hands a couple inches & position them above your forehead & angled slightly upwards. Adjust your hands to receive the ball, make sure all your fingers contact the ball, & flick your wrists to “push” the volleyball upwards. Make sure to bend your wrists, not your fingers. Think of it as a quick catch-and-release motion.

volleyball514 For passing, serving, and spiking- make the ball go where you want it! When passing, line up your hips & shoulders to the target (the setter) to make the ball go that direction. For spiking/overhand serving, make your body face the direction you want the ball to go and follow through with your arm in that direction.

volleyball514 @Januaryfairy: My coach definitely discourages fist!! While it may be easier, when you serve (under or overhand) with your fist you don't have control over the ball's direction. Serving with your wrist for underhand is much better. :)

jennal923 School volley ball ended in middle of October for me.. and we have Club Shock, if you've ever heard of that. You can check for traveling leagues that go in the winter, otherwise just do another sport like Basketball.

volleyball514 If you're passing in the back row & the ball is too high for you to bump, beach dig it! Put your hands together at face height, interlocking your thumbs, and let the volleyball bounce off. But if you have to jump for it, it's probably out of bounds.

volleyball514 Passing/bumping tip: Make sure you are bending your legs to get power in a bump, NOT swinging your arms. This will help you get the ball in the right direction. Swinging your arms may send it somewhere crazy!

volleyball514 are you talking underhand or overhand serving? For underhand, make sure you are not tossing the ball and just hit it right out of your hand with a powerful swing. for overhand, get a good toss and then strike it as hard as you can. good luck!

volleyball514 SummerButterflies: The names are basically a formality, but all officers help run the club by posting updates, etc. If you become a custom officer you can choose your position's name as long as it's vball related. I'm not looking for a VP yet though!

SummerButterflies I've never been on a volleyball team either. I'm going to tryout next year or whenever volleyball season starts. It seems like a fun and competitive sport!!
