7714st New short story-It was a long, hot bus ride after a long, hot field trip. The windows were open, so it cooled down a bit. Everyone was talking, their voices tumbling over each other. I was tired, yawning again and again. Henry sat next to me, his head against the window, eyes closed. I watched him, smiling slightly. He already had laugh lines, at such a young age. We sat so close that another person could have sat in the seat with us, with a little bit of room. My eyes started drooping. I looked over at Henry, he had sat up. I argued with myself inside, trying to decide whether or not our classmates would make fun of us if I put my head on his shoulder to sleep. Ultimately I chose to set my head down and face the humiliation. It never came. An hour and a half long bus ride, but I couldn't fall asleep. I kept awake, my eyes closed. Every time his hair or skin so much as brushed my head, a light shock ran down my body, butterflies turning figure eights in my stomach. I heard conversations, things said that I would have never known otherwise. Winding roads, straight roads, but always on the highway. For quite some time the sun shone down right on us, illuminating my every feature. I silently begged him to hold my hand, put his arm around me, something to show he cared. I knew he cared, so why did it matter so much that he showed it. I knew he was not a very affectionate person, I understood that. But I was affectionate. I was a hopeless romantic, always wishing. I thought nothing would happen when at last we were in the last five or so minutes of the ride. I was wrong, as usual. 7714st Hey, I'd love to be VP. Check out this short story I wrote: The Perfect Fortune- He traced a heart on her hand and she smiled. It was New Years Eve, and they were watching a movie. All of the people around them were sucked into it, it was an important scene. But she just concentrated on the feeling of his hand in hers, and the hearts he traced there. When the movie ended, it was only half an hour before midnight. Fireworks went off outside, and everyone ran out, excited. They exploded in a symphony of color and sound, surrounding them with the bangs and sparks. She jumped every time, but she loved them. It was strange. At the last minute before she left home, she had put on her necklace with the word "fireworks" engraved on it. They went back inside, found fortune cookies and opened them. Most of the kids had opened several until they found a fortune they liked. She only opened one. She smiled when she read it. It was the perfect fortune for the perfect night. Then the count down began. Only one minute left. They all rushed over to the television to see the ball drop in Time's Square. Everyone started chanting. "Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one! HAPPY NEW YEAR!" The crowd exploded. The kids blew their noisemakers, ran outside, and lit their sparklers. They all laughed and smiles were as contagious as the chicken pox. The new year was here at last! He hugged her, and pulled her in for a kiss. Her first kiss on the first day of a new year. She dropped her fortune and it fluttered away in the wind. Later that night, someone found her fortune and picked it up. He read it aloud to himself. "Your love life will soon be happy and harmonious." Even the man who picked it up thought it was the perfect fortune. Back at the party, they held hands and smiled bigger than ever.
