splendiferous22 If you look up "5K training schedule" on google there are a lot of schedules depending on time and skill. But my suggestion is to do a lot of strength training! You want a lot of core strength to run. Biking is also a great idea.

MusicTaughtMeHowToLive Well this week did time trials. Time trials is when everyone on the track team does a 100, 200, and 400m and your coaches time you to see how you do on each race. This also can determine where they put you in a meet. (@ least for my coaches anyway, for the first few meets) Now not every school may do this, I have no idea...but I did my 200m n 29.8 seconds, fastest time out of the 7th and 8th girls. (I am not trying to brag or anything like that...hopefully that didnt sound braggy.) It really surprised me...but I did worse on the 100m...13.7 seconds. Then I worked a Highschool track meet today...it was pretty boring! Lol...so if you girls know...whats your girls best times in races? Hope track season is going well for you girls <3! If you need any advice..I'll will love to answer ya :)!

MusicTaughtMeHowToLive crhoades99: One word: STRETCH :) You seriously can get injured if you don't stretch before AND after running. Someone at me school who is a EXCELLENT sprinter n a AWESOME hurdler can't play this track season because she pulled her hamstring in track conditioning because she didn't stretch properly or enough after practice. Just always to remember that one thing and you should be good :). And drink plenty of water and eat healthy :).

MusicTaughtMeHowToLive Ok well did I ever tell you guys I messed up my left knee this summer? Well ever since then, whenever I am done doing sprints, my left knee hurts. Its not a horrible pain, and Im not limping a lot (sometimes I do...bt its not really noticeable), but it makes it hard to go up the stairs and etc. But the funny thing is, whenever I jog, it doesn't hurt, which I thought was kinda odd. So finally this week we went to a doctor who *specializes* with knee problems, and he told me I can't sprint for 3 weeks. AHHH, Ik..3 weeks! :( But I believe 3 weeks from now my school will still be doing track conditioning so Ill be ok. I can't sprint or jump for 3 weeks (I can jog) and I have to get a strap to put under my knee to see if it helps any. I have this condition *its a really long word that I cant even say..let alone type on here..lol* that a lot of athletes get when they run, so its nothing bad. But I'm just afraid since I have this knee problem now I won't be able to do so much this track season, or do it at all. But I am DETERMINED to do track this year at any cost...but this will be a long 3 weeks! Lol...

MusicTaughtMeHowToLive softballrox98: Well since you said you don't like running outside, and don't have treadmill..have you consider trying a gym? Gyms would have a treadmill and other equipment and have you in shape in no time. But if you don't want to try that, I'd consider going to your local highschool's weight room. My weight room at my highschool doesnt have a treadmill, but we have a lotta upper body strength equipment that can really help you in the long run. I'd also see if you can find a indoor-track so you can run inside, but not every town has one. But sometimes...really running outside in the cold isnt bad for you. If you have the right clothing on (Sweats, underamor cold gear, headband, jacket, gloves, etc) you will be ok running outside. You can also get a running buddy to run with you, and it won't be so bad. But if you really don't want to try running outside...I would consider the other choices I'd gave you. You can also workout at home if you have any workout equipment. Hope my advice helped :)

MusicTaughtMeHowToLive Zia111: I'd say Track or Cross country, or even doing both is worth it! I have so many memories from doing both sports and that is why I love them. If you dont want to do both, just pick which one seems better or fits your schedules easier. Personally track is my favorite because I'm a sprinter and you can't really sprint in crosscountry or you'll regret it in a meet. I would definitely consider trying out for cross country or track, but sometimes running isn't for everyone, so just try it out (whenever your ready) and see how you like it. :)

MusicTaughtMeHowToLive Knerdalicious: Track conditioning is a practice afterschool that you can do to get in shape for track. (this is before track season actually starts) If your school does this, I recommend doing it, you'll be in shape before track season actually starts and the the first day of actual track practice you'll be prepared more than some other runners! I've also heard track conditioning being called winter training...lol so idk if you have heard that term or not. Haha no question is a stupid question! Wish you best of luck in track :)

MusicTaughtMeHowToLive @tuyapril: Hey! Okay for warm out wise: do some stretching. Some good stretches to do are: lunges, butt kicks, knee highs, waist twists, and sit and reach. But if you are more into long distance I would try some stretching thing a quick little warm up run. Tips for getting faster...it just takes practice. I would do some 100m, 200m, 400m a couple of fast 50m n a row. But don't over exert yourself! After much practice and you getting better in shape..you'll be fast in no time! :)

mrmsings i had my very first meet yesterday. we got first and in JV i got 32nd out of 80 girls. but our race got shortened to 2.3 miles instead of 3 cuz it was over 100 degrees!! It was so hot i got the chills while running but i did really well! congrats 2u!

mrmsings @s88horses: my bff on XC is injured too and what she does is a lot of core work (try progressive sit ups and push ups) in the park and jogs about 5 miles VERY slow. she's still in pretty good shape. HOPE THAT HELPS! FEEL BETTER!!!

cmncool i just got off a bad injury too. Increase your runs 3-5% each day so you don't get shin splints (my doctor told me that haha). I'm back to running hopefully you will be too!

If you have any exercising equipment in your house that with your parents permission you can use, go for it! If not, go run with a friend around the neighborhood. Or..if you really don't like running, try biking, yoga, swimming, or any sport this summer! OR (lol, lots of 'ors') pop a exercise DVD into your DVD (or you mite be able to find one on TV, idk if they have a channel, but you can sure try to find one!) and start exercising away! Don't forget things that can motivate you: music, friends, and positive thoughts!

MusicTaughtMeHowToLive ALdancer: Hmm long distance is a wide range, it can be to a 400m (One lap) to 1600m (A mile) and I know some states do like medleys and stuff, which I haven't done, but I know once or twice a school we were going against did them, and so some runners on my team did, they sound really fun! (But I didnt do one :() I would check with your school tho! Are you thinking of doing Cross country since your considering long distance in track?

cmncool to answer ur question u split up depending on ur running style. If u can run 4 a long time without getting too winded do distance but if u can run fast 4 a short distance then obviously do sprints. & if u r in between thers always the 400. Good luck!

iworth5dollars I'm new to the club, too. Try to get a healthy lifestyle! Get your mom to prepare a fruit salad everytime you come home from school. Get some of your friends to jog with you in the weekends. Stretch as much as you can! Hope this helps :)

cmncool tempo running is like running at like 80% in the middle of ur easy run. And after make sure to stretch and do some crunches and planks. but before you do this try contacting ur coach or another teammate to see wut they do cause evry team is differnt

cmncool Start off @ like 20-30 min of just easy running (conversation pace) probly like 4 days a week. Then once you get used to that u can increase the time to like 40 min. eventually u will want to run five days & add w/o like 800 repeats or tempo run

But I have a meet Monday and then a banquet the next week...then thats it!! So sad.... Well I had a meet this week...I didnt do horrible, but again not my best! Ikr?!?! When people yell my name I am glad they are but it messes up your concentration!!! And see like coaches screaming and my coaches never do that! I am kinda glad my coaches arent like that! I LOVE my coaches...especially my head coach..she is a girl and a spanish teacher at the HS....she is so full of life and young! Me and her have had good memories! So on the last day of track practice we played flag football! And then after that we eat and it was like A BUFFET! Amazing! And also I had Spring dance yesterday! AWESOM! I would tell more but i gtg!

elizabethmariexo thanks for your advice! I think I'm going to do hurtles though, for a few reasons. 1. Ive done them before, so I like now how they work 2. I practiced them for an hour and a half straight today 3. my coach already wrote me down for them 4. I (stupidly) got my ear pierced yesterday and if I take my earrings out Im thinking like 5 minutes would be the max time I want them out and if I put stuff over them like a bandaid I really don’t want to look like a dork that long, lol

MusicTaughtMeHowToLive Ladyshen: To tell you the truth, I just looked up on the internet the proper ways to breathe while running. One site said not to breathe in your nose and out your mouth and one site said to breathe calmly, but we all know: You CANNOT breathe calmly when you are sprinting/or even long distancing your heart out all the time!! But in my opinion, I think your breathing technique is perfect! I know a girl on my track team that does long distance and does that and she is one of the fastest! And my coaches say breathe in through your nose and out your mouth all the time. So your breathing is good! Now with fastness: We all have different speeds. But some tips on sprinting is that 1. Your coach is right, arm movement does help! Now with arm movement, your arms should be pumping (Only with sprinting, if you are doing long distance, keep them at your sides, doing a nice rhythm movement, I wouldnt pump as hard doing long distance!), and you SHOULD NOT let your arms cross when doing this! Crossing your arms will make you waste energy and make you more tired, and not make you as fast! Also: Dont tighten your hands into fist or anything when doing this! Make them relaxed and straight! 2. No head movement! Moving your head back and forth when running will NOT help you! I promise! That wastes a lot energy! Keep it straight, to make sure you are doing this, remember when you are running, if your cheeks move and your skin is going up and down a little, you got it! But letting you know, dont make your head so tighten that it hurts and you get headaches, because thats not good! Just make is stay still, and you will be fine! 3. Dont EVER LOOK BACK! Only look back if your A. Getting a baton B. If the gun shoots and it is a false start. Looking back makes your body slow down and that is how people get in front of you, and even looking back sometimes get you out of your lane! Just dont ever look back sweetie, even if your last, never looking back means that your confident of yourself, no matter what place you get! Just follow these steps Ladyshen and you will ace speed :) ~MusicTaughtMeHowToLive

Well I had another track meet last night, it was a LOL track meet, like every track meet to me :) I got 1st in all my events: 4x200, 200m dash, and Sprint Medley :) I am pretty sure our school placed 1st all in all! Funny moments in my meet: Okay it was raining HARD and it was FREEZING OUTSIDE!! After my last running event....I ran to get my sweats on (Bc you know you cant wearing sweats while running) and so I was trying to get my sweatpants on...but my hip kept locking up when i was putting my leg up like a couple inches, so I was telling my friend (Lets call her Savannah, lol) well really screaming "Savannah! Help me with my pants!!" and my spikes kept getting stuck to my pants and I kept putting my pants in the wrong leg or backwards, I was like screaming and laughing and my friend Savannah was so weak from laughing she couldnt help me! We were laughin so hard in the rain I was afraid I was going to get sick! Then 10 minutes later, I get my pants on (And my hoodie and North Face jacket) and went to the bleachers. When I get to the bleachers my other friend from my Sprint Medley (my last event) was with a blanket. (Lets call her Elizabeth, lol, making up random names) So we are sharing a blanket in the freezing rain and we see some ppl from our team with an umbrella and stuff, so we go sit by them. Soon some of them left for their running events or went to the concession stand. So Elizabeth and I get more blankets and an umbrella! And so we are sitting their and Elizabeth was like 'Wheres Christopher? We need him, he would keep us really warm!' so I see this other guy (We will call him....Sean) and I was like 'Sean come here!" and so he layed on our laps for body heat! You probably would think that is CRAZY, but it was freezing outside!! But he kept us really warm! Lol!! I was like "I love you Sean, your so warm!" lol! He was like "I am really warm now though!" Lol!! and all the girls are like "I bet he is loving every moment of this!" Lol!! Elizabeth and I didnt care...we were freezing! Also...work on handoffs (If you are in a relay...if you dont know yet....then just do them for fun...who knows? You might be in one this year!) and also work out of coming out the blocks! Ask your coach of how to find your strong leg/weaker leg, DONT just take one leg and think it will work...its best to find out before doing the wrong leg! (I did that once...my leg was hurting for a while!) Hope this helps ;)

MusicTaughtMeHowToLive ~aliciajoy~-Your coach is right about the eating right before practice could be the problem..but it may also be because your not breathing right. The proper way to breathe when you are running is through your nose and out your mouth. (I know, sounds crazy!) So try that...also another thing is is when you just finished running...put your hands behind your head and breathe slowly (Do this while walking) that helps make oxygen travel faster to the parts in your body that need more oxygen. (ex. your stomach) Also one thing you DONT want to do is sit/lay down after doing a run! That cuts off oxygen circulation and will even make your body even more sore, (Even though we think it helps!)

~aliciajoy~ When you guys run do you ever get like this ache in your stomache..its not really a sideache. Its like a tight feeling. I told my coach about it and he said just make sure I dont eat before I run or drink to much. What should I do about this ache?

MusicTaughtMeHowToLive As retef said...music is the BEST way to get motivated to run! But i know you sometimes mite not be able to listen to music..so the best way to still get motivated is to think of a song in ur head and run on the beats!! Works just the same!

judogirl111 running shoes- not canvas ones like converse. Think Nike, New Balance, and Asics especially have worked for me but the Asics are really expensive(I only get them if they're on sale)
