fungirl123 Listen, little girl! Your character was boring because it had no background information! At least I know how to describe a character! You are so immature! You’re acting like a frigging 2nd grade student! Why would you insult me like that? Are you trying to make me feel bad about myself? Well, you’ve failed terribly. If you knew me in real life, you’d know that I never back down from something like this with something like YOU! What is there to report? Did you feel offended when I told you that you weren’t a descriptive writer? If so, I’m sorry that YOU can’t take criticism!

fungirl123 --November 17(continued)—I ran back to my bedroom and cried. How my mother could be making us move all the way to Maine. Daddy would already be off in Europe…now we would be away from home also. I heard a knock on the door. Mama came in. “I’m so sorry, sweetie! I should’ve told you before that we were moving. Auntie Clara is having some troubles with her hips and she needs someone to help her. I know that you probably don’t want to go, but we have to,” said my mother. I knew that my great-aunt Clara was sickening worse and worse by day. “Oh, alright, I guess I should go!” I said hugging my mother. “Magnificent! We will be leaving in two days,” said my mother. Then she left my bedroom. I got up and went out the door. I put on my coat at the front door and went out into the hall. I ran to Anne’s apartment and told her the news. “Come, let’s go to Julia’s home!” I said after I let Anne let tears tumble down her cheeks.

fungirl123 November 16th—Father was leaving today. We all dressed our best when we took him to the train. When we came back, we all fell onto our beds and went to sleep. –November 17th—I didn’t wake until 9a.m. the next day. Mother was sitting in Father’s Study reading a letter. Why was she in there? “Mother,” I called as I walked through the door. “Oh, sweetie…I’ll get to breakfast later…give me twenty minutes!” she said sweetly. Mother made breakfast silently. Then she sat down at the table and said happily, “We’re going to live in Maine!” My eyes widened.

fungirl123 November 11 (Later that day, dinner)—Father was once again late for dinner…this wasn’t like him one bit. After a slow dinner without him, Max, Alex and I went into the parlor and listened to our favorite radio show. Soon, my father came panting through the front door. “Daddy, I’m glad your home! Do you want to come and listen to the radio?” I asked cheerfully. “Sara, I think you father is tired. Let him eat some dinner,” my mother cut in quietly. Then they went into the kitchen. I heard them talking in low tones and my mother’s voice crack. “Want to go and see what they’re talking about?” asked my twin brother, Max, in whispers. “Yeah, Yeah!” Alex begged quietly. “No…! Well…yes!” I said. We hid behind the line of chairs and the heater as we went into the kitchen and listened from afar of what they were speaking of. I heard “war”, “doctor”, and some other words about “Pearl Harbor”. I knew that my father was a doctor; I knew that Pearl Harbor had been attacked at our Naval Fleet by the Japanese only 3 days ago. But I didn’t know why my mother and father were being so secretive when they spoke of war…usually, they could vent to us kids about how it has affected them. When I was too tired to listen anymore, I went to bed and fell asleep. The next morning, I woke up to Alex and Max lumbering around in the hallway outside of my closed bedroom door. I reluctantly got out of bed and went out to see the commotion. “Daddy is leaving…!” yelped Daniel. “Shh!” commanded a pacing Alex. “We don’t want Mother or Father to hear!” Max said quietly but harshly. “Oh, kids, I know you’re out here. Let’s go into the kitchen and I’ll explain everything when we’re eating!” Father said, catching us off guard, as he came from the doorway of his bedroom. We all nodded and followed him to the kitchen. Over breakfast, Father and Mother explained that Father was leaving…he had to “play his part” in the war. I was completely heartbroken over the fact that my father would be leaving.

GirlyGirl4455 June 11th- Today was a sunny day. I am very energetic, but my family is not. They are all being very lazy today. I hate when they are all lazy, because then a beautiful day is wasted! But I wasn’t going to let that happen today. When I woke up, I found my brothers laying on the table. I was disgusted. “Get off the table, you lazy bums!” I snapped at them. They slid off the table slowly. “Idiots”, I mumbled under my breath. The two slugged on upstairs to their bedrooms. Then I made myself a bowl of cereal. As I poured the milk in, my mother walked in. “Good morning, honey”, she said sleepily. “Good morning”, I replied. She gave a weak smile. I nodded and smiled too. Then I took my cereal and sat down. I quickly ate. My mom had left and gone back upstairs to her room. When I was done eating, I grabbed my jacket and headed out. It was warm out today. Wonderful. I headed down the street to the general store. I happened to have a dime in my coat pocket. I walked in. Arthur the cashier greeted me. I waved and smiled. I immediately walked to the back of the store. There was a whole shelf of pens right there. I picked the blue one on the bottom of the shelf. Blue is my favorite color. And it was exactly a dime. I clasped my hand around it and walked to the counter. I handed the pen to Arthur and gave him my dime. He took the dime and then handed me the pen. I once again clutched it in my hand, then said good-bye. And I walked home feeling great.

fungirl123 June 10th 1941—Anne, Julia and I pushed through the doors of the library after school. The summer reading program had started at the public library on 51st Street. I jotted my name down on the sign-up sheet. “Sara Perkins. Grade 6. Johnson Apartments, 59th Street; Apartment 331,” I read aloud to make sure the information was all correct. “Now you can start picking out books,” said Ms. Paula, the librarian. I waited for Julia and Anne to finish signing their names, then we went to the shelves and started pulling books from it. After spending awhile at the library, we went our separate ways home. Anne lived in the same building as my family did. Julia lived on the same street as the library, in fact, she lived next door. Anne and I waved a taxi over. “Where may I be takin’ you ladies?” asked the taxi driver. “59th Street Johnson Apartments,” I told him. Then he pulled out onto the street and he took us back to our apartment building. We were there in a matter of minutes. Anne and I went our separate ways when we got to the second floor. I pushed open the door of my family’s apartment. “Sara, dear, help me mix the salad up?” asked my mother. I nodded and went over to the counter and grabbed the wooden spoon from the drawer. After mixing, dinner was ready and my father still wasn’t home. We ate our pork while talking off the end of school with my brothers, Max and Alex. After dinner, we went into the parlor and listened to the radio. “The war in Europe is not getting much better. But the U.S. has sworn that they won’t get involved,” said the disk jockey on the radio. “It’s good that we aren’t! Our country would be torn apart if we joined!” said my mother. I agreed with her.

fungirl123 Can we change her brother’s names? Those names weren’t very popular at that time. I was thinking more about the plot! What do think of this: Sara was born in a small hospital in New York City. She was raised there. She attended a great school and had two friends named Anne and Julia. Her parents loved each other and she had two brothers, one was her twin. Her twin’s name was Max and they had an older brother named Alex (Let me know if you want to change the names!). Her world seemed perfect until her father announced that he was leaving for war in Europe. After he leaves, her mother announces that they are leaving to go to Wilson, Maine to live with their aunt Clara whose husband left and is very lonely. Just when Sara thinks life can get no worse, she has an encounter with a Nazi U-Boat that was scoping out the Eastern Coast of the U.S.
