That’s right—there is going to be another movie set in the world of Harry Potter. While we’re guessing the Golden Trio will not be making an appearance in this one, we are thrilled to pieces that J.K. Rowling has come on board to write the screenplay. What could be better than a little more HP magic from the queen herself?
The movie will be based on the spin-off book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a fictional textbook Harry and his classmates used which Jo actually wrote, with profits going to charity, way back when.
According to a Telegraph article, the film will be set in New York City about 70 years before the Harry Potter story begins, and will focus on the book’s fictional author, Newt Scamander.
“As hardcore Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood,” Jo wrote on her Facebook page.
Of the movie, she says, “Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world.”
Cue happy dance music (and maybe an ABC Family movie marathon)…right about now.
