Late last year, we shared the scoop that J.K. Rowling was going to write a movie based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Finds Them, which served as both a textbook for the Hogwarts crew and was penned by Rowling with proceeds going to her Lumos Foundation.
The latest Fantastic Beasts scoop is that the one movie we were expecting is going to become a trilogy, per Warner Bros., which produced the other Harry Potter movies. Rowling will write all three screenplays. She has made it clear that the movies will be neither sequels nor prequels to the Harry Potter series. Instead, it chronicles the adventures of magizoologist New Scamander, beginning in New York in the 1920s.
Casting and filming or release dates have not been announced for the series yet, but we’ve got our fingers crossed they’ll be coming ASAP—along with some seriously sweet sneak peeks from the set. Until then, you can find us at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, sucking down butterbeers and waving wands.
