-music girl I love that you are going out for track! It is such a fun sport. Here are some tips that I hope you find helpful. -Never Give Up! Some of the practices are hard I will say but as long as you puch through them you will be a better athlet at the end. -Find A Buddy. Find someone in your grade or someone that you know who is going into track like you are. It helps so much when you have that extra motivation. -Try Differant Events. It is so important for your first year that you try a varity of events, it helps you narrow down on what you want to do in high school. -Ask Coach. Ask your coach if there are any programs that you can participate in to get in shape for the track season. Hope This Helps! -CrossCountry

Hi nike, I love to run, and have told i am pretty fast runner. my only problem is my school doesnt provide a track&field time. of course, my school has cross country, but it's just not the same. do you have any suggestions on how i could start one at my school or any summer programs to get me started on a team in the summer. I really love to run and would love to in college

-merlin95 My Only Event In Track Is The 800 Meter! My Time Is Currently 2:57. What I Do Is At Least Three Days Of The Five Week Days I Run My 800 The Fastest I Can Go. I Always Bring Someone With Me To Motivate Me And Cheer Me On When I Run. People Watching You Can Make You Go So Much Faster, Don't You Think? Well I Would Just Keep Practicing And Try To Get A Faster Time Each Time You Run It. Remember To Streatch And Drink Plenty Of Water Before You Run And Always Remember Post Work Out Nutrition. Ask Your Coach If He Can Help You Make Up A Training Scedule. My Track And Cross Country Coach Helped Me Make Up A Training Scedule For The Summer. Maybe You Could Ask Too! Hope This Helps! -CrossCountry

-Vivi Hey Girl! I got mine at Target, but you can get them basicly anywhere that sells sports apparel. Target deffinatly has the best color selection but you can find big name brands like nike, reebok, and adidas at places like Dicks Sporting Goods, and Dunhams. Hope This Helps! -CrossCountry

-Baksketballchick11 Hey Girl! There isn't ever a bad time to run! Run when ever you can. You don't have to run when you don't want to but if you to and you cleared it with your parents then go for it. If you have any other questions then just comment me. Before your runs always drink plenty of water and streatch. Hope This Helps! -CrossCountry

-insecure Hey Girl! Distance running is suppose to be a lot slower than sprinting. If you are training for cross country or track than the thing you should do is to just try and push yourself to go faster every mile and try to beat your time. But if you are just running because you like to run than it is normal to feel like you are not going full speed, you can easily run out of energy if you try to sprint long distance so you are doing the right thing to pace yourself. Hope This Helps! -CrossCountry
CrossCountry on 6/13/2010 2:33:47 PM
so i was a sprint runner but people kept on telling me that I should try distance running because it isn't just brutal running so I tried pacing myself and it's been working but now I feel so much slower than before. What can I do?
insecure on 6/13/2010 2:02:07 PM
Hey I love to run! I have a q though. When should I run in the summer??

-Runnergrrl16 Hey Girl! I like to watch lacrosse, I have never played it. So I may not be much help here. I would just try and stay in shape, maybe find out about day camps that you could go to so you could learn a little about it. I think it would be fine for you to join the team even though you missed the first year. At my school thats okay but you should talk to your coach. Hope This Helped! -CrossCountry
CrossCountry on 6/13/2010 11:45:36 AM
Thanx! Also, I saw that you play lacrosse. It seems really fun and a lot of my friends are on the team, so I was thinking of joining next year. I have two questions: one, is it okay for me to join if I didn't do lacrosse the first year, and two, what are some ways I could practice at home to get in shape?
Runnergrrl16 on 6/13/2010 11:14:39 AM
-Runnergrrl16 Hey Girl! I sometimes get muscle cramps before a race too. These tricks have helped a lot through out my track and cross country years. So I hope they help you to. 1.)Try not to run on a full stomach 2.)Stretch 3.)Drink lots of water ( dehydration can increase muscle cramps) 4.)Breathe deep Hope These Help! -CrossCountry
CrossCountry on 6/12/2010 10:18:29 PM
Hey, do you have any tips on cramps? I've started to get them wayyy less now that I'm running more, but is there a way to prevent them entirely before a meet? Thanx!
Runnergrrl16 on 6/12/2010 3:05:40 PM
-amazing789 Hey Girl! Soreness is natural after a run. It means that you worked hard and gained some muscle. The best thing you can do is just streach and walk before a run. Do some deep lunges, calf and quad streaches, butterfly, hurdle streach, back streaches, and so on. It is really important to streach before you run, also drink lots of water(dehydration can increase muscle cramps and discomfort.) I Hope This Helps! -CrossCountry

futureauthor19 on 6/11/2010 4:07:18 PM
Oh my gosh, Cross country is the best sport ever! 7 is my lucky number too! Do you have any advice for sore thighs? I just started running again after a break, and my thighs hurt so bad. Thanks for your help!!!
amazing789 on 6/11/2010 3:39:09 PM
-pupellie Hey! So I am doing a program that my cross country teacher has all of the cross country kids do every summer and I will just give that to you. So I hope it helps! And you get your weekends off! Week One- Run One Mile Every Day Monday-Friday (You could alternate between a tread mill, trail, track, and sidewalks for these.) Week Two- Run Two Miles Every Day ( By sure to streach and drink plenty of water.) Week Three- Run Three Miles Every Day (I like to mapquest a rout and run one and a half miles away from my house and then run back.) Week Four- Run Four Miles Every Day (Now This seems like a very long run, pick an interesting rout so you don't get board) Week 5- Run Five Miles every other day, when you are not running take a break and maybe just try and work on strengthening your legs ( Lifting weight, Leg Lifts, and so on) Repeat week five until the end of the summer. If you wanted you could also increase your mileage and run like eight miles just two days a week. I Hope This Helps! -CrossCountry

Heyy! So I have a question referring to long distance running. I'm starting high school next year and I wanted to do cross country and track, the only problem is that I'm not that great of a runner. What should I do to get started? Oh and my family belongs to a gym so I have the availability of exercise machines. Thanks in advance!! ( :
pupellie on 6/10/2010 9:03:29 PM
Sorry, I forgot something, don't forget to use 2 ponytail holders.. It keeps the ponytail in longer.
haleyia on 6/10/2010 4:20:29 PM
Well, 2 keep ur har in just put ur hair in a tight ponytail. If u like headbands, u can put 1 in. If ur headands dont stay in, u could clip them at the bottom with 2 clips. Just spray a little hairspray and ur ready 2 go!!

emmanade -Hey Girl! I have shin splints but it all depends on where the pain is. I will give you tips on streaching for those, and as for your muscles...Always Streatch, Increase Your Intake Of Vitamin C, Don't Neglect Post Workout Nutrition, and Ice Is Your Best Friend. I really hope these help you! As for your shins always do some calf stretches before you run. Hope I Helped! -CrossCountry

I <3 nike shorts!! I give great advice on hair!! U don't even need a hair iron. One style: Put ur hair in a ponytail in the back of ur head but leave a few strands of hair out. Wrap ur hair around the hair band and secure it with a clip or bobby pin. Hope that helps!
haleyia on 6/9/2010 5:12:18 PM
Hello I love to run, but afterwards (after a run) my shin starts to ache and my muscle feels tiiiight. Is there any way I can stop my leg from hurting after and before? Oh and if you need help with hair.. you know where to come! ;)

-chloe4ever27 Hey Girl! I can give you some tips on how to prevent those aweful cramps but I do not know how to strengthen a diaphram. Hope these tips help! 1.)Time your eating. Having food in your stomach during a workout may increase cramping (avoid eating one to two hours before a workout) 2.)Stretching may prevent or relieve a cramp. Raise your right arm straight up and lean toward the left. Hold for 30 seconds, release, then stretch the other side. 3.)Slow down your pace until pain lessens. 4.)Breathe deep to stretch the diaphragm. 5.)Drink before exercise (dehydration can increase muscle cramps.) 6.)Massage or press on the area with pain. Bend forward to stretch the diaphragm and ease the pain. Hope These Help! -CrossCountry

Hold for 30 seconds, release, then stretch the other side 2.)Try not to run on a full stomach 3.)Breathe deep to stretch the diaphragm 4.)Drink before exercise (dehydration can increase muscle cramps) 5.)To stop a side stitch when running, stop running and place your hand into the right side of your belly and push up, lifting the liver slightly. Inhale and exhale evenly as you push up.
