Why I Hold Them So Close

I’ll keep my dreams
all morning and all day
as I slip into my clothes
and drink my morning tea
I’ll think of them as
I drive through the busy town
and prepare dinner to the soundtrack
of the evening news
I’ll keep them close to me
So that I have something to look forward to
to revisit when I’m too tired
for anything real

Night

Moonlight falling through the window
staining the room silver
Toes tingle with the cold
I pull the blanket down
to stifle the chill
Mind fading
Dreams emerging
I’ll slip back into my slumber
and forget the world
for now
