Yeah, it's def easier to get to know someone better by hanging out in a group first lol.

I"ve read a book by Edward Bloor, last year in class we read Tangerine. I liked that book, so now that you mention him, I'm gonna check out his other books. Thanks! Right now, I'm reading a book by Jodi Picoult, it's super long but really good so far.

As for getting to know the cute guy, there are a variety of ways. Start off with talking and making jokes with a big group of friends (or teammmates) that includes him. That way, you can eventually talk one-on-one without it being awkward, because you've talked before. Also, compliment him when he does well in track, like when he sets a personal record. Just be fun, friendly, and most importantly, yourself! Smile
