first of all, is he type one or type two? in type 1 (i have that) the pancreas stops producing beta cells and therefore stops making insulin, which is a hormone in your body that keeps a non - diabetic persons' bloodsugar around 100 and that is normal. but when the insulin is not distributed, the bloodsugar will go through the roof (around 300 or higher) which can lead to coma. the person will start having the symptoms i listed earlier, then will be smart and get to the doctor. it goes from there. in type 2, the pancreas still makes insulin, but the body does not know how to use it. so then the person will get similar symptoms to the ones listed earlier and will go to the doctor and blah blah. the person will need to take oral meds (pills) to help the pancreas release insulin.

p.s. do you need to know how to help him care for his diabetes? if so i can tell you!!!
