i saw your english/western post, i ride both but usually english i wouldnt nescessarily recommend it though....
western is generally easier to start out on but sometimes it can be harder than english later, my trainer says western gives you thinner legs(she used to ride english but now she does western), but its easier to post and stuff in english.
some people say english riding is more dangerous than western, its not true over 50% of serious injuries around horses happen on the flat.
also, theres alot of stuff you can choose from in english but theres just as much in western, its really just a matter of opinion which one you ride.
western tends to give you better seat and legs when you ride, because they dont depend on the reins as mush, but english gives you more control with your hands. if i were you i would try both and decide later what you want, or you could not choose at all and ride both, itsgood to be well-rounded in your riding because then if you get bored you can easily switch to something else Smile

Hey! my name is Simone and I also ride horses and I ride english. English is so much fun! I have been riding english for 9 years and I love every minute of it! The disipline is so elegant and cosmopolitan. There are so many sports within english to choose from you can never become bored. I would recomend english riding to anyone and think you should try it! We're kinda cousins (it's complicated, i think we're third cousins?) so she came over to New York. We're really good friends tho. Btw, about your riding thing, I ride english. I rode western once, so I guess if you've never ridden (rode? rided?) english, it can be confusing at first. I think it's easy, though! Lol.

hey girl i saw ur english/western post! I ride both but I ride english mostly. I think the pros to riding english are: you have a better feel of your horse because the english saddle is more flexible and has a closer contact than western ones. Also, if you ride english you can do stadium jumping or eventing (my fave!)You seem to be really interested in posting lol it's much easier to do in an english saddle. it's very different from western because you have to have a steady rein contact the entire time (loose reins are only used in dressage during a free walk or stretchy trot)

the cons of english: you can't be very creative with show outfits, breeches, show shirt, jacket, and black helmet.

The pros of western: you learn how to be more in-tune with your seat and legs because you can't rely on having a tight rein contact. If you do gymkhanas and trail rides a lot then it's safer to go western because of the horn. during shows you can wear whatever color you choose Smile

the cons of western: you don't learn things like posting at the trot or canter. It's very uncomfortable to jump in a western saddle (thanks to the horn).

okay,so i ride horses but i ride western and i was wondering to anybody who rides english,: IS IT FUN????

cuz i only rode in an english saddle for like a minute,and i wasnt even posting so i dont really know what it is like.

but for the last few days,i've had a strong urge to ride english.

its probably becauz i've seen soooo many people post and such,and since it is not exactly easy to post in a western saddle,i just kinda felt like trying out english.

SO IF YOU RIDE ENGLISH,WESTERN OR BOTH(that would be great cuz then you could tell me all the pros and cons of each)PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO COMMENT ON MY PRO ABOUT IT!!!!!! IT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL AND NICE OF YOU!!!!!! THANKS!!!!!
