Hey Katie! Laughing Smile Laughing
How are you? Gosh, I’m so sorry it keeps taking me forever to write back! I just finished both of my college classes, though, so hopefully my schedule will be getting back to normal soon. I got an A in psychology, and though the criminal justice teacher hasn’t graded the final assignment yet, I think I’ll get an A in that class too. For psychology, I had a two hour two-hundred question final exam, and I missed one Cry . Haha, no, I’m not sad with a 99%, I just wish I could have gotten a 100 on the final test (I wouldn’t normally feel like that, it’s just that the question I missed was so obvious, I definitely should have gotten it). Oh well, considering the class average is around a 60 for that exam, I guess I did pretty well. (though I could make C’s and D’s on most assignments, and have my grades still seem great compared to that class!). Anyway, I enjoyed taking these classes, but I guess I’m glad I don’t have to take quizzes every week anymore. And I’ll especially miss all the stupid comments! Smile I don’t know if you’re at all interested in psychology or criminal justice, but they were both interesting classes. I really enjoyed the psychology one; you should take it if you get the chance! Does your community college have the duel-enrollment program that ours has? That’s how I’m even able to take these courses; they’re completely free to high school students sixteen and up (or if you’re turning sixteen in the semester the classes start). I think I took the college’s entrance test at the beginning of the tenth grade. If you’re interested and have time to take an extra class or two, you ought to look into it. Maybe you’ll get a few Tacriasha’s and Timothy’s in your class too! Laughing
Haha, yeah, I know I’ve been kind of hard on myself about getting into a good college, and I know I still have a year (probably two, actually) to get ready for it, but I’m still worried about it. I’m really proud of my sister for getting accepted to NCSU, but I’m really, really going to miss her!! Frown Cry Frown (Gosh, I’m sorry I keep complaining to you about everything.) Yeah, people do seem to be pretty nice around here (though I haven’t lived anywhere else [except for living in VA until I was three], so I can’t compare it to anything.) We have friends that visit from New York, and that’s what they like about North Carolina too (except I think they have a hard time understanding our accents, haha).
Is Six Flags fun? I’ve never been there... sorry you didn’t get to go on that roller coaster the last time you went. Smile That’s kind of how it was when I went to Kings Dominion; we waited in line for two hours (which I never do), and when we were at the front of the line (I’m not kidding, we would have gotten to ride the next time), the ride broke down and we had to leave. Cry
Yeah, the accordion’s great! My sister hates the sound of it, though, so I have to wait and practice when she's outside or in the shower, or something. Smile I've learned to play a couple of songs with the right piano side of it, but other than the breathe key on the left side, I still have no idea how to use the 120 bass buttons on the left. A lot of video game music works perfectly on the accordion, so I’ve been playing a lot of Zelda and Mario music. And, I’m trying to figure out how to play the Venezuelan waltz, La Partida. I figured out the first part of the song, but because I don’t have any sheet music and I’m trying to play it by ear, it’s taking a long time! Smile The accordion really is an interesting instrument. When I was looking up information on it before buying mine, I was really surprised by how complex they are. I was reading about how a lot of accordionists have back problems, and after getting mine, I definitely believe that! They’re really heavy! It’s not terrible sitting down and playing, but even just trying to move it upstairs or down is a lot of work! I need to buy a new strap for it too, since it’s missing one...
Did you do anything special for Mother’s Day? I made my mom a bracelet, a pair of earrings, and painted her a picture. This is the first really big canvas I’ve ever worked on, and I’d love to do another one. The canvas is 20" X 24", and I painted yellow roses in a vase (yeah, I know, that probably sounds really boring!). It was actually kind of a last-minute thing. The week before, we went to Virginia, and when we were in Michael’s I just decided to get a big canvas to experiment with. I really wasn’t planning to take so long with it; I was actually just going to paint a quick landscape. But, I think it turned out really well. My sister made me a website for my earrings, and I’ll probably put a picture of it in the gallery link (I’ll let you know when the website’s up. It’ll probably be a while, but I’d love for you to see some of my artwork!).
Anyway, I have to get back to my schoolwork. What’s the weather like where you live? It’s finally cooled off a little today, which I’m glad of. I hate hot weather! I hardly ever have bad allergies, but I keep waking up with a sore throat... My cat’s allergies have been especially bad this year too! She keeps sneezing and coughing. We’ve taken her to the vet twice this year, and now we have allergy medicine for her. Poor kitty... Smile
I hope it’s nice where you are, and I hope you’re doing well!
Talk to you later!

Hey Katie! Laughing
Did you have a nice Easter? Mine was pretty good. This was the first year in a long time that we didn’t have to go to my aunt’s house for Easter dinner, which was nice. (sorry, I know that probably sounds mean, but most of our relatives are crazy!) Laughing
Haha, yeah, I’m glad you got to see Duke! It’s pretty amazing, isn’t it? Is your brother thinking about going there? Did you go to North Carolina State University? My sister got accepted there, so she’s going in the fall. It seemed like a pretty good college; it definitely focuses a lot on art, which is what we’re both interested in. Of course, Duke has so many music programs, I think it would be a better college for me, but I’ll definitely apply to NCSU also (so that I’ll have a back-up plan for when I fail miserably getting into Duke... that is, provided that I actually do get accepted into NCSU, which I’m getting less and less sure of...). Yeah, school’s not going too well! Tong I’m still getting A’s, but I’m so bored with it.
Yeah, Busch Gardens is fun; we’re going again tomorrow, which I’m really looking forward to. Alpengeist (haha, I don’t know how to spell it either, so I’m using your spelling) used to be my favorite roller coaster, but the newest one, the Griffin, is really fun. Did you go on Apollo’s Chariot? I love that one too. The last time my sister and I rode it, it stopped right at the top of the first drop, and we had to walk off. It was fun. Laughing I love roller coasters! Laughing I went to King’s Dominion with a couple of friends last year... It was a fun park, but I had a terrible time! Have you ever been there? I didn’t even get to go on a single roller coaster, because the lines were so long. I hate being in hot, crowded places (I get really, really claustrophobic!), and the time I went, there was actually a line to get into the pool. It was awful... We waited in line for about two hours to go on one roller coaster, and then when we finally got to the front, the ride messed up, and we had to leave. And then we couldn’t even stay late, because we were going to a concert afterwards. I think it was Thousand Foot Krutch, Hawk Nelson, Jeremy Camp, and a few others... A great concert, but again, a sold-out concert in ninety-degree weather... Not my favorite place to be! Laughing
Haha, that home video sounds so cute! I was always afraid of Santa... :’(
Yeah, actually I do have a couple of gmail accounts. I needed one to put on my business card for my earrings, and then I loved it so much I got a personal one too. I have the ninja theme! I’ve never used the instant messaging, though... I don’t think any of my friends use gmail. Haha, that sounds funny about having your own dictionary of mistyped words. Unfortunately, even if I did instant message any of my friends, they wouldn’t get any jokes I made about them mistyping things because they couldn’t care less whether or not they spell correctly. I used to IM a couple of friends pretty often, but their typing was so bad, it seemed like they were trying to spell incorrectly on purpose. It usually doesn’t bother me that much (especially since I mistype things all the time), but I automatically correct them without intending to; I would think they probably get irritated... Oh well. It just surprises me how many people don’t care at all about grammar. My friend always jokes with me about my homepage being set to the DailyWritingTips webpage. Smile
Anyway, staying on the subject of bad grammar, I have the most amazing criminal justice comment yet!
Okay, here it is:

“In non violent crimes, it would save money to have a person plea bargain and expedite a case through the court system. In a case such as murder, you might have a victim who is terrified to face their murderer and they might prefer to allow a plea bargain. This would not be desirable, but it might be the only way to get a conviction.”

???

“...You might have a victim who is terrified to face their murder...” What??!?!?!? I can only hope he meant to write that the victim’s family wouldn’t want to face the murderer. But with this class, you never know! The odd thing is, he didn’t have any spelling mistakes, and I’m pretty sure this person has given some pretty good answers before...
Haha, yeah, I have no idea what a grade of hair is, either. Laughing And I also have no idea how to pronounce Tacriasha’s name. I thought it was funny that her first introduction post said something like: “I know my name is hard to pronounce, so if you don’t know how to pronounce it, just call me TC.” Well, yes, she does have a point about it being hard to pronounce, but when, in an online class, will I ever have to actually say her name out loud??? Oh well, if nothing else, these classes keep me laughing!
Hmmm... what else... oh, I bought an accordion last week! I was going to buy one a few years ago, but I didn’t have enough money at the time to get a good-quality one. But now I finally have a vintage Federfisa piano accordion. It’s really beautiful. I’ve been playing around with it a lot, and it has a great sound! It was kind of one of those impulsive ebay purchases, but I haven’t regretted buying it yet, so I guess that’s good.
Anyway, I have to go; I hope you’re doing well!
Talk to you later!

Hey Katie! Laughing
I’m glad to hear spring track is going well! I wish I could find a sport that I liked so I could stay in shape (or get in shape!). Haha, and I’m writing this as I’m sitting at the computer in my pajamas eating chocolate! Laughing I always feel like personality-wise, we’re a lot alike (I hope you don’t take that as an insult!), so I’m surprised our interests are so different. Anyway, I hope everything is still going well with your running! Are you going to try high jumping? (If you haven’t already…sorry, I guess I’m about a week behind in my messaging!)
Is there anything new going on in your life? It’s kind of boring here… My mom took me and my sister to Busch Gardens on Friday, which was fun. Since we don’t get a spring break (or any other break, really), we try to spend as many Fridays as we can at Bush Gardens. (Especially before it gets too hot; we only go in the spring and fall) For Christmas, my dad had all of our old video tapes made into DVDs, so we’ve been watching those a lot.
“Last night, I had a dream or something.” -That’s a quote from a five-year-old me. Smile Hmmm… and then there was this very long story about “a boy frog...who met a girl frog... and then... and then...they got married.... and had a baby frog.......” I never actually finished the story; I just turned around, ran in a few circles, and fell down. Laughing I was a very odd little kid. When I was four and my sister was seven, we got ducks. I wanted to name mine Dachous... Creativity or insanity? I guess my mom finally convinced me that “Daisy” was a better duck name, because that’s what I ended up naming it. I had a really southern accent, too... Sorry, my comments must be so boring, especially when I ramble on about nothing... So, enough about my weirdness, and on to my crazy college classmates! Laughing
Okay, this is a comment where a girl insulted the teacher by accident (I don’t think she realized who was commenting). The topic was: “if you could choose three genetic traits for your future children, which would you choose?” Most people put things such as eye color and height (Mine was good physical and mental health, and intelligence. I was actually the first person to put something other than attractiveness) Anyway, here’s the exact post, mistakes and all! (and yes, two people in a row actually did spell confidence as “coinfidence”)
Tacriasha (student): if I was faced with that as the only option I would like for my child to havegood grade of hair, wisdom, and coinfidence.
Cory (student): Correct me if im wrong, and i do understand where everyone is coming from but i dont believe that coinfidence is a genetic trait.
Tammy (teacher): You are correct Cory. At this point I don't think anyone has identified confidence as being a specific genetic trait. They have shown that addiction is genetic to a point.
Tacriasha: Well Tammy and Cory,
If you read your material, you would know that happyness is heredetary so there fore I personally think that having confidence is a part of being happy. So I was right in my my approach, sorry that I didn't break it down to common terms for you.
The teacher never replied, but it sounded really rude to me. I thought it was funny, though, and I wish the teacher had commented on it.
Here’s one from my criminal justice class:
“My answer to this question is ithat if you love what you do and do what you love than nothing and noone whould stop you from doing what you heart set on doing. Weather the person is right or wrong. You know he/she did it or didn’t do no matter what do what makes you happy.”
The question was something about lawyers defending criminals, and I understand what this girl was trying to say, but I think the majority of the people in these classes could benefit from reading up on basic sentence structure. I had a couple more funny comments, but I can’t remember where I saved them. Frown If I find them again, I’ll send them to you; I think they were pretty good... Anyway, since this comment is already so long, I think I’ll go ahead and end it before I find more to write about! Oh, actually I did want to tell you about this fortune cookie I got yesterday. The fortune was: “I spent the time prepare the song while the song is not being sung.” ....haha, it sounds like one of my classmates wrote it! Any ideas on what it means? I think maybe it’s talking about how sometimes you spend a long time making something, and then it’s not appreciated... or maybe it’s just Engrish! I got one recently that said: “Son said ‘Even Popeye didn’t eat his spinach until he had to’”.....hmmmmm. Maybe they just put those weird ones in occasionally to confuse you, haha. Anyway, I just added about 100 words since I said I was going to end the comment, so this time, I really am going to end it. (wow, that was a bad sentence; maybe I’m the one who needs to learn about sentence structure! Haha!) I hope you’re doing well! Talk to you later!
~Amanda Laughing Smile Laughing
Oops, I forgot something… I just wanted to ask you if you had ever read “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak. I just finished it, and it’s really good. Laughing

Hey Katie! Laughing
That’s great that your basketball team did so well this year! I’m sorry to hear the season’s over. (That means you aren’t playing anymore this school year, right? Remember: Me + Basketball= Clueless) Laughing I’m sure it’s sad to see the seniors go; I guess you probably make some pretty good friends when you play on a team together. How’s spring track going? Is it fun? Wow, I’d be terrible at that… haha, I tried joggling (juggling while jogging; it’s actually a real sport!) for the first time yesterday, and I was so bad at it. Sometimes I walk and juggle (woggle?) on the treadmill, but I’ve never done it outside (I don’t want to look like an idiot in front of the neighbors! Laughing )
Haha, I probably wouldn’t be any good at dancing now. I used to really enjoy it; I should have kept it up after my teacher quit, but I didn’t, and now I probably wouldn’t remember any of the dance moves I knew. I was okay at it, but it seemed like I always messed one thing up every year at the recital. One year, it was dropping a hat; another year, it was forgetting a small part at the end. There were a few more, but the one that stands out the most was when I fell onstage. It was during the curtain call, and I was supposed to run out and do a cartwheel into the splits. The costume I was wearing had gloves which were kind of slick, so of course, in the middle of the cartwheel, I slid and pretty much fell on my head. The worst part was that I started crying when I was still on the stage. :’( Haha, sorry to bore you with my story! Laughing It’s funny now, because I can easily picture the sensitive little 10-year-old me bursting into tears in front of everyone. Hey, if it happened now, I’d still probably start crying! Laughing Laughing Laughing
I’m sure you’re probably tired of hearing about that contest, but it’s finally over, and I am so happy with how it turned out! Laughing I actually got first place for both my quilled earrings and temari! I also got third place for a decorative painting I made for my mom a few months ago. So, at the state level, I got $325, which was way more than I was expecting. Yeah, I don’t know why the people didn’t show up to compete in the regional level. There were seven districts, and there should have been at least five competitors for each category. Most of the people who enter are seniors, and it takes a lot of work to get ready for these things, so I guess I can understand if they were too busy to go; I wouldn’t waste that opportunity, though, and I’ll definitely be competing next year in all three categories. I asked my guitar teacher yesterday if he could help me find and learn a three minute classical piece to play, since I can’t use the same Andy McKee song I did this year.
And quilling is basically an art form where you take strips of paper and roll, shape, and glue them together to create decorative designs. Sometimes it’s called paper filigree. It’s a really old art; it was popular in Europe in the 18th century. I think the name comes from how they used to wind the paper around a quill to create the basic coil shape. I love how detailed the pictures can get. My only problem with it is that I get bored if I spend too much time on one project; I have a bunch of half-finished pictures lying around my room. But, it’s a really fun craft, and it’s really easy; all you need is a steady hand and a lot of patience!
Congratulations on getting your picture in the newspaper! Laughing Haha, I’m sure you didn’t look ridiculous! Laughing
The owl pellets are for my environmental science. I think they’re fun to dissect, and it wasn’t a terrible project, but my teacher can somehow manage to take the fun out of anything by adding a ton of extra questions that weren’t in the official curriculum. Now, I’m writing a report on xylophagous insects (haha, I’d have no idea how to spell that if my textbook wasn’t lying open next to me!).
Anyway, sorry for the long message (again!)! I have a few funny comments from my college classmates to share with you, but since this is already so long, I think I’ll wait until my next comment to tell you about it! Laughing
I hope you’re doing well! Talk to you later! Laughing

Hey Katie! Laughing
Wow, I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to comment back; I just realized that it has been almost a month since I last wrote you. Of course, it's the same reason of having way too much schoolwork. Last night I was up until after 12 trying to get a report sent in by the deadline. Plus, my mom's been really irritated at me lately because I'm still behind on my work.
And sorry about that last comment! Smile Haha, It was probably a good thing I wasn't able to post it the first two times; I actually had about two or three more paragraphs the first time I sent it! I guess that's the bad thing about being a fast typist; I don't even realize how long they end up until after I post them! Laughing
Gosh, I'm really sorry to hear you were sick on your trip to Vermont. I'm getting over a cold, too, so I've been feeling really bad lately. Plus, I had to go to the doctor and get five shots a couple of days ago, so I'm still really sore from that! Frown
What you had to draw for your art midterm sounds interesting! Laughing Now that I think about it, I remember having to draw something similar for my art lessons. It wasn't graded, though; the point was to work on perspective and size relationships since it had to touch the sides of the paper.
Haha, I'm glad you didn't think I was being mean making fun of my college classmates! Every time I joke about them, I'm worried you might think I'm a mean person. Frown Sometimes it's just too hard to resist, though!
Okay, now for the question that I feel really bad about asking, since it's so late: How did it go with your basketball game on that Monday? (I think it was on the 23rd of February) I read your comment that day, and I was planning to write to you to wish you good luck... Obviously, I didn't, and now I feel bad about it! Cry Sorry! It sounds like you really like sports (and are very good at them!); it's great that you're that interested in it. I wish I liked doing something that was healthy and good exercise! I used to dance (completely for exercise- I hated recitals!), but my dance teacher stopped teaching, and I didn't want to take lessons from someone else. Anyway, I hope everything's going well with your basketball playing! Smile
The regional level of the art contest was Saturday. I got first place for four of the seven art categories I was entered in, so those pieces will go on to the state level. I'm really happy with that, since there was a lot more competition at this level. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to compete in any of the music or performing arts categories, because I was sick. From what someone told me, I would have won for all three because nobody else showed up. I would have only had to perform in front of about 100 people, so I really wish I could have gone! Cry The first prize for those categories at the state level is $250 each. With my luck, probably no one will show up at the state level, either, and I could have basically gotten $750 for free if I hadn't been sick! Cry Cry Cry Oh well. I think my quilled earrings and temari might have a chance at the state level, so I'm hoping to win something. Me and my sister's picture was in our local newspaper for the contest; it's always funny when I get my picture in the paper. Living in a very small town, people always comment on it. Yesterday, I was in the library, and some lady (I've seen her before, but I have no idea who she is) came up to me and started talking to me about my artwork. A reporter interviewed me for an article on quilling a few years ago, and the the lady actually remembered that, which was very odd. That article was funny, because they put this giant picture of me (much bigger than I would have liked) on the front page of the community section, so when I opened the paper, I was kind of like "Woah!". Haha, I looked really stupid. But it was a pretty good article, I guess...
Anyway, I have to go dissect an owl pellet! Laughing Sorry for the long comment (again). Hope you're doing well! Laughing
Talk to you later!

Yay! I got to post your 100th comment! Laughing Laughing Laughing

amanda92992 on 2/19/2009 4:16:55 PM

Hey Katie! Laughing
Okay, sorry about that last comment; I was getting pretty frustrated! It wouldn’t have been too bad, except that the first time I sent it, I typed it on my iPod (which takes forever), and the second time, I just didn’t think about saving the comment to a word document, and went ahead and sent it… Anyway, here’s the comment that apparently doesn’t want to be sent!

Hey Katie!
Wow, the length of that last comment was impressive!
I can’t believe you think your comments are boring; I’ve never once thought that, and I always enjoy reading them! Actually, I always notice how well-written they are. Do you write much? One thing I’ve learned from my Criminal Justice and Psychology (more about that later…) classes is the importance of being able to write a good e-mail. I’m sure you’ll never have a problem with that; ever since we started writing sometime last year, I’ve been impressed by how easily you come across as being an intelligent, funny, caring person. Anyway, my point is, your comments are never, ever boring (and you’re a good enough writer that you could probably write about the growth rates of different grasses and make it sound funny and interesting!).
And wow- I’m so impressed by your midterm grades! A 98 on History?!? You really can’t do much better than that! Congratulations! Laughing Laughing Laughing I’m surprised you had to draw something for your art exam. Did your teacher give you a particular object to draw, or could you pick the subject? It just seems to me as though it would be impossible to keep the grading fair. Two peoples’ interpretations of a subject might be completely different, but it doesn’t necessarily mean the more realistic drawing is better. To me, it takes more skill to create an interesting, balanced abstract, than a realistic still life (I say that because I’m horrible at painting abstracts! When I took art lessons, and we had abstract studies, my teacher always told me to paint “looser” and “free-er” (hmmm.. my spell checker doesn’t like that word)… Anyway, I’ve always had a hard time with abstracts… yeah, I know you probably don’t care, and I’m getting off the subject…). Smile
Did you have fun in Vermont?? Do you go skiing much? I’ve never been before; I’d love to go, but I’d probably be really bad at it! Tong
Okay, now to tell you about my psychology class… I’ll try to keep this short, since there’s really nothing much to say about it except that my classmates are morons (but you already knew that). Haha, I agree with you when you say they make you feel smart! I know it’s mean to keep making fun of them, but I feel like I should enjoy this class for its comical aspects while I can. I’m sure a four-year college won’t be this easy (or hilarious!) I’ve been battling it out in the discussion boards for the last few weeks, and I’ve figured out the best way to post my answer. Here’s my method:
1. I answer the question and state my opinion, keeping it polite simple, and a bit vague.
2. Some unlucky person will decide to challenge my answer and attempt to make me look stupid by exposing the “holes” in my theory/belief/opinion. (These “holes” are actually just the facts I decided to leave out in my initial post.)
3.I attack back with a scientific, intelligent-sounding explanation, and in the end, the other person generally comes out looking pretty foolish. I’ve learned that the shorter my reply is, the worse the other person looks.
Step 4 usually doesn’t happen, because by then, the person doesn’t dare reply. If they do, I just ignore it because I’ve usually already answered their question and it’s obvious that they just want to argue.
I love this class! Laughing Smile Laughing
Sorry if my way of posting sounds mean. I always keep it polite (otherwise, I’d be banned from posting), and if the other person happened to be right, I’d definitely admit I was wrong. (hasn’t happened yet, but I guess it could…) And just so you know, I only pick on the ignorant ones that actually try to tell me my opinion on something is wrong, or the ones who purposely try to tear other peoples’ answers apart just to be mean. They’re the only ones I get irritated at, and the only goal is to make them sorry they posted their replies to begin with. One good thing about the class is that I’ve started to feel a bit more confident about my intelligence! Most of my confidence vanished the time I got a 7% on a seventh-grade pre-algebra quiz! (well, in my defense, I did better than my friend, who got a 4; everyone failed; and when I retook it, I got a 100… It’s amazing how much difference it makes when you actually study!) After the initial shock of getting a grade that low, I thought it was pretty funny. That year, I had the reputation of being the smart, straight-A bookworm, and that grade was so opposite of what I normally get, that any labels I had that year disappeared! The quiz hung on my closed door for several years, until my mom made me take it down… Maybe I’ll take it to college and hang it on my wall… Laughing
Laughing Laughing Laughing Congratulations for getting to practice with the varsity team! Laughing Laughing Laughing (before I go all smiley on you, that’s good, right??? Haha, no, I’m just kidding!) Laughing That’s great that you had eleven wins and only one loss! The year I went to an actual school, our team hardly ever won! Have you been enjoying practicing with the varsity team??
Anyway, I have to go; I think I’ve bored you enough for one comment! I’m sorry it has taken me so long to write back. My online classes have kept me busy! Yesterday, I had to take three 80-question quizzes (yes, I had three weeks to do them, and still waited until the day they were due; I’ll admit that I’m a bit of a procrastinator!). Anyway, I hope you had a fun, safe trip to Vermont, and that you’re doing well!
Talk to you later!

----And that is about what I wrote, minus a few paragraphs. 1,000+ lost words. Oh well… At least I’ve learned to save it to a word document until it gets posted! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Hey Katie! Laughing
I'm glad you're back! I was starting to miss my GL friend! Smile How do you think you did on your midterms? It must be a relief to have them out of the way! Smile It's so weird to hear you talk about having snow days; the day you sent your comment, it was over seventy degrees here! Smile
Haha, it was kind of funny when I read the part of your message where you wrote about spilling Gatorade on your brother. Just, like, ten minutes ago, I spilled orange Gatorade all over myself... I missed my mouth Cry Cry Cry How old are your brothers? I think I remember you saying one was about my age and the other is younger, right?
Yep, the Criminal Justice class is great; I'm looking forward to the psychology one, starting on the sixth of February, so I can meet all the geniuses taking that class... And yes, you're probably right about "sermester" being the way she pronounces it... It seems like if someone doesn't know how to spell a word, they write it exactly as it sounds. I had some free time today, so I printed out some of the worst spelling errors especially for you! Smile Just so you know, none of these are typos; I'm assuming that if someone spells the same word wrong 2-5 times in their post, they really think they're spelling it correctly. Anyway, these are 13 of the worst: injoy, intrest, privleges, thurough, intresting, theese, secssions (that one confused me, but I finally figured out he meant 'sections'), decission, recial (another odd spelling, but it's supposed to be 'racial'), committ, aspecially, prspective, gilty... That's not even half of them, but I thought they were kind of funny. I love the "injoy" and "gilty" ones. Oh, and for one of the weekly assignments, one girl wrote as her answer "I think all the data compiled gives a better idea of what the crime rate is." I can't remember what the question was, but I wrote a full two pages on the subject... It's kind of sad, really. They even have a spell-checker over the box where you type your answer, so it always amazes me that almost everyone makes these spelling mistakes.
Anyway, you're probably tired of hearing about these people, so I'll go on to the next thing I wanted to tell you about.
I entered nine pieces in the art contest I wrote about in one of my last comments. I got first place in seven of them; the lady that organized the contest mixed up one of my categories, so I ended up competing with myself in the papercraft one (and I won- YAY!). Anyway, I ended up entering for guitar, piano, and performing arts (juggling). Nobody else entered for piano or performing arts, so I won by default. And, I got a pretty high score for my guitar playing, so I got first place for that too. Laughing Laughing Laughing So, I've been having a pretty good week! Smile
It sounds like you're doing well; I'm glad to hear your midterms are over so you can relax a little. Is there anything interesting going on in your life right now? I feel like I'm hogging all the conversation... Frown Sorry if it sounds like I'm talking about myself a lot... Frown You like sports, right? Is there anything...new...you know, going on with...sports? Or whatever?? Sorry; I think I told you before that I'm clueless when it comes to sports-related things. I just wanted to get the conversation back to something that's interesting to you. So...yeah... Please write about whatever you want to in the next comment! Smile I don't want you to think I'm one of those irritating people that only talk about themselves!! Laughing Anyway, I'm rambling now, so I'll talk to you later! Smile Laughing Smile Laughing

I didn't realize New Jersey had different rules for the age for getting your license. I was able to get my learner's permit when I turned 15. So far, nothing too bad has happened while I was driving, but I've almost run into a few ditches before. And I ran over a squirrel... Well, it was already dead, but I still felt bad. I think the worst thing that has happened so far was when I slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting a squirrel. An 18-wheeler was following really closely, and the driver almost hit us. My mom got really mad. Cry But, nothing was worse than when my sister first got her learner's permit and almost ran into a ditch because she "forgot to turn," or the other time when she "forgot she was driving!" Luckily, neither of us have ever been involved in any serious wrecks. I don't know how much it would cost to get the car repainted; I haven't looked into it yet. I do know that I'll paint it pink, though! Laughing
I'm so glad to hear you like the guitar song that much! It's definitely reassuring to know that I at least made a good decision on my song choice! Smile
One of my college classes (Intro. to Criminal Justice) started yesterday. My classmates are... Interesting... For example, one guy starts his introduction out with "Hi, my name is Timothy and I'm a former gang member." Another used his intro to tell us all how he got pulled four times in the last month, and then proceeded to say that he was taking the class to learn "cop lingo" to get out of speeding tickets. He ended his mess of an introduction beautifully with "watch out for the police!" Yet another classmate, this time a 40-year-old woman, used the opportunity to invite everyone to a party. I could go on for much longer, but I'm going to try to keep this comment from becoming too long! Smile My last thing to add is that, oddly, Timothy, the former gang member, actually sounds the most intelligent of the group. I've never seen so many misspelled words; it's just sad! I'm not saying I write perfectly, but at least I actually try! Laughing "Sermester" was one of the worst, mainly because she spelled it that way each of the five times she wrote it! To describe it all in one word: ............wow........ To describe it in six words: Thank God it's an online class! Smile
Good luck on your mid-terms!! At least you still have a couple of weeks to study. I'm sure you'll do great! Trust me, you sound brilliant compared to my illiterate/criminal collge classmates! Laughing
Anyway, I have to go before this message turns into a super-scary-long one! (Or is it too late??) haha! Talk to you later! Laughing

amanda92992 on 1/12/2009 9:13:34 PM

Hey Katie! Laughing
Scary-long??? Gosh, now I'm really offended! Laughing Laughing haha; I'm just kidding, of course. Actually, I love your term; it describes that last comment perfectly! Smile I only wish I could find the words to write scary-long essays! Laughing
Basically, juggling clubs are props used by jugglers in toss juggling (in place of balls, rings, beanbags, etc...). I'm sure you've probably seen them before... I guess you could say they resemble bowling pins; a lot of times, they are actually incorrectly referred to as 'juggling pins.' They're specially weighted so that it's easier to throw and catch accurately. The thing most jugglers like about club juggling is that it looks really hard, even though it's not much harder than ball juggling. It is more dangerous, though! I have bruises on my hands and wrists from where I caught it the wrong way. They're professional clubs, so they're really heavy! I've read before that ball and club juggling are so different, you have to re-learn everything. From my personal experience, though, I think it definitely helps to be able to solidly juggle three balls in the basic cascade pattern before learning club juggling. The reason I say that is because it took me 2+ years to learn 3-ball juggling, and although I've only had the clubs since Christmas, I've juggled for 24 catches without messing up! Laughing I'm not great at it yet, but I'm getting there! I'm going to order juggling rings in the next few days. I really want to learn ring juggling. If I can learn that, I'll be able to juggle any object! Fruit/eggs/rocks/etc... are like balls. Pens/bottles/knives/torches are clubs. Plates/disks are rings! Smile If you're at all interested in learning to juggle, you should try it! It's so much fun! I got my first juggling beanbags when I was eight. And, the side benefits of juggling are: juggling is a performance art, sport, form of exercise and meditation, and it increases volume and density of gray matter in certain parts of the brain! Smile Oh, I have to go. My sister's calling me. I'll try to finish my comment in the next hour! (actually, it's probably good to break this comment up some... I have a feeling it's going to be another scary-long one!) Laughing
I'll be back soon!

Hey Katie! Smile
Your profile's back! Laughing Sorry I haven't written back sooner. When I saw that your profile was being moderated, I decided to wait until it was back before commenting again. I didn't realize it would take almost a week- sorry about that! Smile
I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad car ride. I hate riding in the car when it's raining... Even when it's just lightly raining, it still scares me. Frown I'm really glad to hear you had a nice Christmas, though. Smile I got a mixer/recorder, a camera, some video games, and some new juggling clubs. Do you like Rock Band 2? My sister and I got it, and I like it a lot better than Guitar Hero. My favorite game we got was LittleBigPlanet. Have you ever played it? It's a really great game; the levels are so creative! Smile
Did you have a nice birthday?? Can you get your learner's permit now? Smile I was just wondering, since I'm planning to get my license soon. I agreed to wait until this year so my parents could save money... And because I hate driving... And because I'm scared to take the test... And because I really don't want to be another "available driver"... Pretty much the only reason I would get my license is that, when I get it, I'll get a car. Of course, it'll probably be my grandfather's old, stinky car that's been totaled once, resurrected, and then has gotten into about ten other small wrecks, but my mom said that if that's my "new car," I can get it painted whatever color I want (paying for it with my own money)... Such a great deal! Especially when you consider that my sister got a barely-used car when she got her learner's permit! And she drives less than I do! Frown Gosh, now I'm really starting to feel cheated! Smile haha... Oh well... I've been having a great week (thanks to GL!), so I'm definitely not going to let that bother me! Laughing I won a cell phone in the "giveaway of the day." I enter the contests a lot, but rarely check the winners' list, so I had no idea had I won it until it came in the mail yesterday! Laughing Next week, I'm going to enter some artwork in a local art competition. I'm not nervous about that at all, since I've participated the last few years (last year, several pieces went to the state level, and I won over $125). This year, I'm going to enter in the music category for guitar and [maybe] piano, which I am really nervous about. I hate being in front of people, and I have to play live for the panel of judges. My mom wants me to play a really difficult fingerstyle guitar song, which is adding to the stress. I think I'm going to play Andy McKee's "Rylynn" (if you haven't heard it yet, look it up on YouTube. Andy McKee is amazing; he's the reason I started learning guitar.) I know the song, and when I play it, the first half sounds decent, but after that, it kind of falls apart. The sheet music is seven pages long... Hmmm... Think I can learn three and a half pages of music by next Thursday??? I doubt it, but I guess I'll try. I promised my mom I would, and I would feel so guilty if I backed out now. Cry
How has school been going for you?
Anyway, I hope you're doing fine, and had a nice birthday! Laughing Laughing

Haha, that’s weird; going from 20 degrees to 65??!? So far, it hasn’t gotten too cold here. Right now, it’s 47 degrees. Yesterday, we were planning to go to a state park and bring our dog to hike since it was such a nice day. Unfortunately, my grandfather had a stroke yesterday morning. Frown He’s in the hospital right now, but he’s coming home later today. He had one a little over a month ago, and got a concussion; after staying in a nursing home for a couple weeks, my dad brought him home… Now, my dad spends every night over at his house, and my aunt spends all day there. So, at least he didn’t fall this time, since my dad was there to help him. And, thankfully, it wasn’t as bad this time- I can just imagine how our Christmas would have been this year if it had been any worse!
At least you’re done with your Shakespeare sonnet! Do you get graded on it?? I’m glad to hear it wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be… I’m sure I would be shaking too. Actually, when I get really nervous, my hands get all sweaty and gross.
Sorry to bore you with just talking about school and family! My mom has officially given me four days for my break!!! I don’t have to do any schoolwork from Christmas Eve through the 27th!!! It’s been a while since I’ve even gotten that much of a break!
Well, I have to get back to my English; right now, I’m writing a 500-word essay on the use of similes vs. metaphors- such an interesting topic! Talk to you later!!

I'm glad to hear it wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be… I’m sure I would be shaking too. Actually, when I get really nervous, my hands get all sweaty and gross.
Sorry to bore you with just talking about school and family! My mom has officially given me four days for my break!!! Laughing I don’t have to do any schoolwork from Christmas Eve through the 27th!!! It’s been a while since I’ve even gotten that much of a break! Laughing Laughing Laughing
Well, I have to get back to my English; right now, I’m writing a 500-word essay on the use of similes vs. metaphors- such an interesting topic! Laughing Talk to you later!!

Hey Katie! Laughing
Wow, I would hate to have to read Shakespeare in front of people! I hate public speaking too! My sister and I used to be in a home schooler's group, and we had to make presentations every month. I had to talk for 5-10 minutes about the subject I chose, which was very hard for me. I tend to mumble and talk fast when I'm nervous... Luckily, after high school started, my mom decided I didn't really have enough time to be in the group anymore. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing I would really hate writing an essay on any Shakespeare play. I have to write a 500-word essay for about every two lessons, but thankfully, no Shakespeare essays this year!! Smile I'm really worried these lessons are going to mess up my average, too. I've already dropped from my first semester A+, to a B for semester two. Frown
And that would really mess up my Christmas if I had to worry about midterms. I'm terrified of taking tests, and I'd probably feel like I had to study every day. Frown (wow- this comment is full of sad smiley faces! Frown )
Is it cold where you live? It was about sixty-five degrees today, and it's supposed to be over seventy tomorrow. I really hope it gets colder for Christmas! It is nice to have a warm day every once in a while, though. Smile
Well, I'll talk to you later!! Smile

Hey Katie!
Yep, Pan’s Labyrinth is in Spanish. The original name is “El Laberinto del fauno”. Both Pan’s Labyrinth and the movie I mentioned before, The Orphanage (El Orfanato), were directed by the same person, Guillermo del Toro. They were both very good; if you end up seeing Pan’s Labyrinth in school, I doubt you’ll be disappointed. And yeah, I definitely know how it feels when movies get awkward with your parents watching… that’s partly why I try to only watch G or PG movies at home! And I love some of the computer animated movies too. I really liked the first Shrek (not really the second and third ones as much), and we have Finding Nemo, and some of the other ones. I really like the Nightmare Before Christmas and The Corpse Bride. And I would say that I also prefer comedies over scary movies. The first scary movie I watched was The Ring, which I just watched last year. And I watched The Grudge with my sister a few months ago. We were visiting my aunt in Michigan, and I swear, the stairs looked exactly like the stairs in the movie… they even creaked a lot… which was a little creepy.
That’s weird that your iPod has a dark splotch on it… luckily, I’ve never had any problems with mine. Is the splotch under the screen? If so, it’s probably a dead pixel; if it’s still under warranty, you can probably exchange it (if that’s what it is).
Unfortunately, my school break starts whenever I finish my English, so that means it’ll probably be… I don’t know… maybe Christmas eve??!? No, hopefully I’ll get a few more days, but I don’t think I’ll end up finishing my English on time. I’m so close to being finished, but I just realized that I have to read “The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, acts I-V”--- 112 pages of Shakespeare… yep… sounds fun, doesn’t it?? And it’s always questions about the tone, or what best describes something, which some of them are really just personal opinions. This is, by far, the worst thing I’ve had to read this year. And I’ve had some pretty weird things to read: “A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings”, “Ode to My Socks”, “We Real Cool”, “The Flying Cat”… yep…
Sorry you have so much homework… Do you usually have much over your break?
Well, anyway, I have to get back to Shakespeare- I’m on page 29!!! Haha!
Talk to you later!!!

Heyy girl what's up?? That sux that u guys don't have alot of practices. I was sooo happy 2day cause i didn't have practice!!!Yesterday we had a game and we killed this team like 62-9!!!They were horrible!!But it was kinda funny how bad they were!!!lol. Ohh our varsity team in the tournament, they did ok, they lost their first game by like 20 pts, but then they won ttheir second game by 10. They didn't even win their own tournament!!!But there's been like sooo much dramaz on varsity cause we had a game on mon, and they lost pretty badly, and the varsity coach like flipped out on certain ppl cause they were "moping" on the bench, and this one girl who was a starter and their best defensive player, quit!!!!Cause like she couldn't take the coach nemore and all the drama and stuff on the team. Just crazy stuff!!Can't wait til i'm on varsity nxt yr!!lol. Comment back when u get the chance!!!!!Smile

Hey Katie! Laughing
Yeah, I've only seen three R-rated movies: Hide and Seek, The Orphanage, and Pan's Labrynth. None of them really deserve the R-rating... I would say they's about equal to The Ring... Pan's Labrynth was a really good movie. It's in Spanish, so I didn't really want to watch it (I hate reading subtitles), but it had a great story- definitely my favorite of the three (though it's a bit violent). My mom lets me watch PG-13 and R-rated movies if they're rated that for language or scary images. She lets me watch most PG-13 movies I want to, but if it's rated that for sexual elements, she always previews it first (or else looks at the imdb "parent's guide"... I don't mind at all, because generally I either like little-kid Disney movies like Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella, or "scary" movies like The Ring. Some of my favorite "scary" movies (which aren't particularly scary...) are The Ring (1&2), The Grudge (I haven't seen the second one yet Frown ), and The Sixth Sense. What type of movies do you like?? I hate movies that just try to make you jump a million times, and especially gory movies. My sister's into the "Saw" movies, which sound disgusting to me. Pan's Labrynth had a scene where a man got his nose smashed in with a bottle, which is about as much gore as I can take!
What type of iPod are you asking for? That's terrible that your jacket and shoes got stolen at school. When I went to school in seventh grade, I definitely didn't have to worry about that- there were about 10-15 kids in each grade; the year I was there, there were only two seniors! Smile I'm asking for a TASCAM music recorder and mixer. I want one with at least 10-20 recording tracks, so I can record several guitar parts, piano, harp, etc..., and put them together to make songs. I'm hoping it will help get me ready for Power Chord Academy... Maybe get used to the recording equipment and playing different styles of music and duets... Other than that, I don't really have anything big that I want this year; I wrote down a few video games and lotions/soaps that I'd like to have, and I might ask for a few CDs. My aunts and uncles always know that when they can't think of anything to get me, Barnes&Noble gift cards are always a safe purchase! Laughing when does your Christmas break start?
Wow, I just noticed how long this comment is... I should go ahead and send it before I find another subject to write a page about! Smile It's funny how whenever I have a schoolwork assignment that has a required length, I can never seem to write that much; when I'm writing to Internet-friends, I can drag any topic out to a 300-word essay! Haha! Laughing Well, I'll talk to you later! Smile
