i find it kind of ironic that us dancers spend so many hours of the week dancing building up strength muscle and we work just as hard as people doing other sports and people still dont think its a sport

The only dancey type places that compete around us are rhythmic cheerleading (which in my opinion doesn't make much sense). At my studio, dancers go en pointe when they are promoted to "junior company" which typically is ages from 10-13. So yes, I was en pointe when I was ten. The year before you are usually promoted, you do strengthening exercises to prepare, and most times the girls are ready (with the exception of foot problems and such). You spend a good 2-4 years in junior company to build up the skill to enter just plain "company" which is where I am now. Whew, that was a lot!

Hey, don't worry about it, I'm hyper a lot too! I only do pointe and ballet and occasionally partnering. I do not compete (none of the studios in my area do, for some reason) but I do perform in two ballets every year for our community. I would actually really like to take jazz or modern, but my studio is pretty much strictly ballet and tap. ):

hi!! well, i dance ballet and lyrical, mainly. but this year i'm taking modern and theatre and maybe jazz/hip hop. I don't compete yet, but if I end up taking the jazz/hip hop then i can be considered for a group at my dance school that will most likely compete. I'm from maryland, around baltimore.

haha... I do take modern! its a combined Ethnic/ Modern class (we do half and half since our classes are an hour and a half) it is really fun but my favorite is either hip hop or Broadway!

Hey that's AWESOME! I take ballet, tap, jazz, and for the summer hip hop and pre pointe! We take like almost all the same kinds! Coolio!! Oh and my dance studio usually competes once or twice a year.Do you compete? Wow you started way l8ter than me. But 8 years is still a lot! Actually I was almost 4 when I started.

btw I stink at hip hop 2! I went to the class last night and we did stalls... and well I wasn't good at those. And then I hurt my knees a little doing a handstand into a backbend! But I like doing that! Well comment back on my profile soon!

Wow, we do! I loooove ice cream and have this great recipe which tastes exactly like the carton except without teh chemical taste. Its cookie n cream. I have a sis in 6 grade. arent they annoying?
