I would say that the most important advice to lower your 500 time is to talk to your coach, and plan your race out, because the 500 requires a lot of strategy. Also, make sure that you warm up for a while before your race. That way, your body and muscles will be ready to go, so you just need to worry about the mental aspects of the race.
