Looking for Alaska by John Green

What we loved most about this novel was the characters’ foundation of friendship and how they taught us to stick with buds through thick and thin. They are probably the quirkiest and most unique group of friends out there, but they stick together through it all. They have no secrets and will be together until the very end.

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

It’s obvious that Janie had a tough life, and it was even harder having to go through everything on her own. What we learned from Janie was to always follow your heart. From leaving her hometown to choosing who she marries, she is always doing what’s best for her.

Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger

This classic novel follows the life of Holden Caulfield and how he copes with certain situations. His love for his sister and aim to keep innocence alive shows his true character. His journey to self-acceptance and grieving is a relatable tale to anyone.

    Blubber by Judy Blume

This novel tackles the issue of bullying in a super realistic way, drawing from Blume’s personal experience. Linda is a young girl who gets picked on daily by her classmates and must learn to love herself. We love that Blume shows the realities of the issue as well as its consequences.

The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank

Anne Frank may be one of the most well known names in history, and her personal story is its equal. In this novel, readers get an inside look into the Holocaust and what it was really like for those of the Jewish faith. Anne Frank’s faith, strength and wit is something that should be celebrated daily.
