We’ve got a new read for you that’s a real page-turner! They Never Came Back by Caroline B. Cooney is the tale of Cathy, your average teenager, whose life gets flipped upside-down.
It all started with just one look. While sitting in the cafeteria of her summer school in Greenwich, Connecticut, a boy named Tommy thought he recognized Cathy as someone else: his cousin Murielle, who was taken by child protective services once her parents abandoned her by fleeing the country after embezzling millions of dollars.
Even after insisting she isn’t whom he thinks she is, Tommy takes Cathy back to his parents, who also see a striking resemblance to the lost girl. To make matters worse, an FBI agent decides to try and use Cathy as bait due to her and Murielle’s similar look, to catch the guilty ’rents.
Why do we love this book? Cathy’s story is totally relatable and we definitely got enveloped in the drama within the pages. Cooney did a great job of keeping the reader’s attention with thrills, scandals and mystery.
