Advice
On a class trip to Ireland, I got close to a guy friend. He confessed that, although he has a GF, he had a minor crush on me.
However, we never discussed it the rest of the trip. I still see him, but we never talk. What’s up?
DAVE: Vacations are prime for flings. But vacations, along with their magic, come to an end. Then it’s back to everyday life. And, unfortunately, that life includes a girlfriend.
BILL: You’ve experienced the RDF (Reality Distortion Field) that often accompanies an intense trip with someone you like. With RDF, the emotional time frame speeds up since you’re away from your normal routine. The result can be intense emotion, which slows down when you return to real life.

I need help with my dad. It seems we hardly go a day without fighting. I try to talk and be civil, but he won't listen.
No matter how perfect I am, I'm not perfect enough.
-Not Perfect Enough
Dear Not Perfect Enough,
When parents act like ogres, it may have little to do with you. They may be tired or hungry, or things went poorly at work, or their own dads were mean. Don't give up on your dad.
But don't transfer his dissatisfaction or impossible standards onto yourself either. You're not perfect but maybe you ARE perfect enough. (P.S. Any chance you can ask your mom to buy him a book on parenting? How would he react if you took one out of the library?)

I found some pills under my brother’s mattress.
I’m not sure what they are. If I tell my mom, she might be mad at me for going through his room.
Even though your mom might get mad at you for snooping around in your brother’s room, you must put his health and safety first. ’Fess up and tell your mom what you found. It’s up to her to handle the situation from there.

I'm almost never hungry. I'm trying to gain weight, but I can rarely even finish a meal.
I feel full after just a few bites.
When girls lose their appetites, a probable culprit is clinical depression, which strikes one in five kids. Symptoms of depression can also include not enjoying things you used to, losing confidence, becoming irritated easily, and changes in sleep patterns.
Teenagers need about 2,000 calories a day from nutritious foods such as veggies, fruits, lean meats, whole grains and fats. And the less you eat, the less hungry you feel, explains Marlo Mittler, registered dietitian/nutritional consultant, Fairway Market, New York: “Hunger cues, like your stomach growling, disappear.”
To get your appetite back, eat small amounts of food every three hours. If you continue to feel unable to eat, you should get to a doc. Other causes could be an underlying illness or a side effect of any prescription drugs you might be taking.
