Ask Bill & Dave
My BFF broke up with her boyfriend.
He used to go out with two of my other buds, and now he seems to be hitting on me!
I’m not into him, but what’s his deal?
DAVE: This is a win-win. You can brush this guy aside and be supportive of your BFF at the same time. He doesn’t have the best interests of your crew in mind, only his own. If he gets the cold shoulder from all of you, he might learn to change his ways.
BILL: Sounds like a soap opera. Eventually, everyone on the show dates everyone. But no rule says you have to go out with a guy just because he likes you. Forget about this guy, and go for someone who’s more prime time.

My boyfriend always talks about girls he thinks are hot. I know it’s normal for him to notice…but does he have to tell me?
He also told me he was flirting with this other girl. What gives?
BILL: It’s sort of like someone who goes to a restaurant and raves about the food at other places. Makes you want to ask, “If the food’s so great elsewhere, why are you here?” On the other hand, girls always say they want to know what’s on their BFs’ minds. Your dude tells you.
DAVE: Bill hits on a valid point. Girls say they want honesty, honesty, honesty, but when they actually get it they complain that it’s not what they wanted to hear. There are two possibilities in play here: 1) He thinks other girls are hot and flirts with them, or 2) he doesn’t really think other girls are hot and doesn’t flirt with them, but he wants you to think that so you’ll be jealous. Either way, your BF is doing you a big favor by letting you know he’s not the one for you since he has no regard for your feelings.

My BFF’s boyfriend creeps me out. When the three of us hang out together, he stares at my chest.
And once, when my best friend left the room, he asked me, “Can I just sit and look at you forever?” It was really weird, so I didn’t tell my best friend.
But eventually I’m afraid he might try to kiss me or something. I don’t want to hurt my friend. What should I do?
BILL: You’re totally right to be creeped out. But I’m not sure keeping silent about it is the best thing. After all, wouldn’t you want to know if your BF were acting this way? I recommend a three-step approach: 1) Tell him, firmly, to keep his opinions and glares to himself, making it very clear to him that his behavior is inappropriate. 2) If he persists, tell your BFF what’s been going on. 3) If he still persists, tell a parent or teacher. Being treated disrespectfully should never be tolerated, no matter who the guy is.
DAVE: It doesn’t matter that it’s your BFF’s BF. He’s a CG (Creepy Guy), and you should take Bill’s advice not to put up with his crude stares and comments. Your BFF might not like what she hears but, in the end, she should appreciate hearing the truth about her misplaced affection. If she’s a true friend, she’ll respect you for being honest with her—that final F in BFF ain’t for nuthin’.

My boyfriend is a little bit overprotective. I thought it was sweet at first, but now I want to strangle him!
He follows me around 24/7 and even accused my best guy friend of flirting with me. My BF is driving me insane!
DAVE: I advise you not to strangle him. But this dude definitely has issues. Tell him you like having him as a BF but that there are other rewarding parts to your life. Explain that you’re not going to give those up to appease him and that he needs to stop trying to control you. If he gets it, you’ll notice an immediate change. If not, dump him pronto.
BILL: Overprotective people are usually coming from a good place—clearly, he cares for you. But if he lacks the self-confidence needed to trust you, have a talk with your “protector.” Explain that you don’t need to be together every minute to have a great relationship. If that doesn’t work, I suggest you refuse to tolerate this wacky behavior. Bye, guy!
