Celebs We Love

Hanging With Honor Society

GL took the guys of Honor Society for a special tour around Baltimore’s Inner Harbor!

Recently, we were invited to catch Honor Society as they cruised through town on their Fashionably Late Tour. To sum up the entire show, it was ah-mazing! The vocals were flawless and the overall performance was unbelievable: Alex did tricks with his drumsticks, Andrew ripped on his bass, Jason was rockin’ the keyboards and Michael was workin’ the vocals.

The set list started off with “Full Moon Crazy” followed by “Sing For You,” the rock anthem of the album of sorts. They made sure to play all the favorites like “Here Comes Trouble” and “Where Are You Now,” feeding off the energy of the audience, and ended with “See U In The Dark,” to which EVERYONE was doing the dance (yes, there is a dance!).

But aside from the catchy music (which we already knew), we wanted to know what the band was really like. So we caught up with the guys before their gig and took them around our home turf of Baltimore, Maryland. And, let’s just say, as if you didn’t love these guys before, you’ll love them even more after seeing what went down… (Psst! Don’t miss the very special shout out to all of you girls at the very end!)

Be sure to catch Honor Society on the Fashionably Late Tour all fall. And pick up a copy of their debut album (in stores now) if you haven’t already.

Who’s your favorite Honor Society band member? Blog about it, babes.

Keke Palmers 5 Style Tips--Straight from the Red Carpet

Looking to shine like a star at your next school dance? If anyone knows how to work the red carpet it’s True Jackson, VP’s 16-year-old Keke Palmer. We had her spill her own stylin’ secrets just for you….

1. Accessorize your outfit. “Accessories are fun! But be careful because it is very easy to overdo it. My motto is ‘less is more.’ I love bangles and sunglasses for my everyday look, and when I have to dress it up a bit, I like to wear a ring on my finger.”

2. Choose fabulous shoes. “I cannot lie—I base heels on how awesome they look. [When you’re on the red carpet] everyone is dressed up and trying their best to look good [and] most people have nice shoes on.”

3. Bring a back-up beauty stash. “I absolutely must have lip gloss [in my bag]. Ever since I was little, I had a fascination with that stuff. It's amazing!”

4. Give strands an extra shine. “You have to find the right conditioner for your hair.”

5. Use a bag to your advantage. “I’ve had to hold my purse in just the right spot to hide something I spilled on myself in the ride over.”

Be sure to catch Keke and the rest of the True gang when True Jackson, VP returns for a spanking new season this Saturday, September 19, at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon—followed by a new episode September 26 with special guest star Victoria Justice.

Do you have any secret styling tips? Blog about it, beauties.

Three Cheers for Vanessa Born

You’ve already got a glimpse of what actor Cody Longo (of Bring It On: Fight to the Finish) is all about (CLICK HERE if you haven’t). But what is his co-star, Vanessa Born like?

The actress plays Gloria, Lina’s BFF, who’s actually made captain of the cheer squad once she leaves for Malibu. But is this hip chick anything like her character? We just had to catch up with her and get to the bottom of it…

GL: What’s your favorite thing about your character, Gloria?
Vanessa: [She] is hilarious. She’s fun and feisty and ready to bust out dancing at any time. She’s always there for her friends and will fight to the finish for them.

GL: What’s you’re favorite thing about your best friend?
Vanessa: He is always there for me when I have a small or big problem and need someone to bounce it off of. We love to go to amusement parks, like Disneyland, or haunted house events like Knotts Scary Farm. We scream like girls so bad, it’s not even funny.

GL: You’re very passionate and driven when it comes to dance and acting. What motivates you to succeed?
Vanessa: When people tell me something’s not possible, or I’m not going to succeed. Those words drive me up the wall, out the door and into an acting, dance or voice class. I’m sad at first, but I usually take that sadness and put it to use in my art. Like taking a bunch of mean people juice and grinding it up into a positive protein shake—yummy.

GL: If there could be another Bring It On installment, what would you like to see happen?
Vanessa: A musical!

GL: There obviously isn’t a shortage of cute guys in the film. What have you learned about guys and relationships that you wish you knew when you were younger?
Vanessa: That being friends first is so awesome. And there’s no rush to be in a relationship. If he’s a good guy, he’ll want to be your friend first.

GL: This or That. Chocolate or vanilla?
Vanessa: BOTH—mixed together!

GL: Summer or winter?
Vanessa: SUMMER!

GL: East coast or west coast?
Vanessa: I’m a Cali girl…WEST SIDE!

Catch Vanessa and the rest of the gang when Bring It On: Fight to the Finish lands on DVD September 1.

Cody Longo Brings It

Three cheers for Bring It On. Yes, a fresh new installment of the hugely popular franchise, Bring It On: Fight to the Finish, lands on DVD September 1.

East Los Angeles high school cheer squad captain Lina Cruz (played by Christina Milian) and her buds set sights on winning the Spirit Championships with the team’s fiery fusion of Latin and hip-hop moves. But Lina’s world soon gets turned upside down after a sudden move to Malibu—and to a school with a less than stellar squad—with the fam.

She’s ready to transform Malibu Vista High’s Sea Lions cheer squad into a championship team, but will have to get past the award-winning Jaguar squad and their captain, Avery, first. Add to that a budding romance between her and Avery’s brother Evan (played by Cody Longo) and you’re bound to have some drama.

We got 21-year-old cutie Cody on the phone and had him dish on everything from his new role to why he’s a softie at heart.

Malibu Ken
“[My] character [Evan] is not your typical Malibu kid. He is kind-hearted, comes from a wealthy family, but doesn’t have the arrogance that a lot of the Malibu kids in this movie carry. He appeals to Lina because he’s down-to-earth and about himself, not about where he lives.

The BIO Fam…
“We all had a blast together [while filming]. The girls especially had [a] bond because they had a month and a half of prepping and practices for the cheering. It turned into a big family. Between takes we would all just joke around with each other. That made it easier to shoot what we needed and have that chemistry with each other.”

…And his own
“I’m the second oldest [of seven kids]. In high school, I dated one of my [older] sister’s friends when I was a freshman. But it was never a huge problem. I thought I was mature enough to handle it at the time, or maybe her friend was just so immature that she was going to date a freshman when she was a senior. Being able to go one year of school with my older sister was really cool. I remember [she] was this big, popular senior and I was this new, little freshman. I felt cool because all the bigger football players would pick on me, but then also bring me in.”

A man of many talents
“I’ve been playing the piano my whole life and can play by ear. Never taken a lesson. I taught myself the piano.”

A clue on co-star Christina Milian
“Christina is a great girl. Her mom and two sisters all still live together so she’s really close with her family. And they’re all involved in her business and support her so much. I had a blast with her. She was actually the biggest kid on set.”

A tearjerker
“[One of] my favorite movies is Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet—the one with Leonardo DiCaprio. Anything with Leonardo DiCaprio I’m like all over, you know? I’m obsessed. I’m a romantic at heart. You should see me watching The Notebook and Blood Diamond. I cried. All of my friends who are girls make fun of me for it.”

Be sure to catch Cody when Bring It On: Fight to the Finish lands in stores Tuesday, September 1.

YOU WROTE IT

It was a strange scent, faintly familiar, like the perfume my mother used to wear. The aroma lingered around me, smelling like dried sunflowers and a soft touch of the new spring air.
