On DVD: Fantastic Mr. Fox

Haven’t we all wished that animals could talk? There have been tons of movies featuring chatty creatures, but Fantastic Mr. Fox is something completely different. While filmed in stop-motion, it still feels totally real.

Based on the best-selling book by Roald Dahl, this family flick, coming out on DVD Tuesday, March 23, is about Mr. Fox, a middle-aged fox who, as a youth, was very adventurous and sneaky. Many fox-years ago, he promised his wife that he would give up the bandit routine to live a more settled life in order to take care of their son, Ash. And when Mr. Fox’s young nephew Kristopherson comes to live with them, Ash needs the attention even more as the new addition is causing him a great amount of stress.

Mr. Fox has always loved mischief, and when he turns back into it, his wife becomes upset, threatening to leave his sly behind.

When the three mean farmers Boggis, Bunce and Bean start to come after Mr. Fox, however, he knows he must do something about it, gathering up his other animal friends to help save their homes and lives. Can they band together and save their tails?

With Oscar winners Meryl Streep and George Clooney lending their voice to Mrs. and Mr. Fox, among a colorful cast of supporting characters, voiced by the likes of Bill Murray and Owen Wilson, this movie, nominated for two Academy Awards this year (Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Score) is a must-have for the spring.

Ever wanted to know how stop-motion filming really works? There’s an awesome special feature on the DVD that will give you the how-to about the process!

Be sure to check out the adventure when Fantastic Mr. Fox lands on DVD this Tuesday, then let us know your thoughts.

Get to know the real-life Forks

The Twilight Saga: New Moon is releasing on a two-disc special edition DVD and special edition Blu-ray tomorrow, March 20. Are you excited?!

What’s even more exciting is the fact that Summit’s releasing another very special DVD on the same exact day: Twilight in Forks: The Saga of the Real Town. We got to watch the documentary before it hits stores and just had to share the deets with our fave Twihards.

Summit Entertainment brings the characters of Twilight to life in this enchanting documentary about the real-life setting of the insanely popular phenomenon. Thought you were Twilight’s number one fan? The DVD presents the people of Forks, Washington and their lives, from diehard fans (who believe that vampires exist!) to residents who actually moved their families to Forks simply because of their obsession with the series.

Always thought Twilight was a mere fantasy? A legend? Well, it turns out there’s some truth to the people and settings of Twilight.  What about the dark, dreary forest Bella flees to when Edward temporarily “breaks up” with her in New Moon? That forest actually exists! And what about that enormous and mysterious Cullen residence?  Author Stephenie Meyer based it off of an 18-room, 100-year-old mansion. The film also explores the real-life characters and places of Twilight—the chief of police, a man reputed as Jacob’s grandfather, an Alice look-alike and Forks high school.

Mesmerized by Twilight? You’re not alone. The documentary will even introduce you to groups like “The Twilight Moms”, the “Bella Cullen project”, and a Twilight parody group. A total must-see. Even the founder of twilightguy.com isn’t afraid to express his love of Meyer’s charming supernatural series in this DVD.

So why not make it a double feature tomorrow night and grab your “Team Edward” and “Team Jacob” fans for New Moon and Twilight in Forks. Then come back and let us know your thoughts.

Would you ever want to visit the real Forks, Washington? Blog about it, babes.

Score Bandslam for FREE on DVD

Bandslam is the biggest music competition in the country. And a couple of hilarious misfit teens assemble, having a real shot at the big prize—an actual record deal. When the band finds themselves against all odds, will they be able to stand up and rock out to what they believe in?

Vanessa Hudgens and Aly Michalka lead the way in this music-filled comedy, on DVD Tuesday, March 16, that rocks way harder than any of the High School Musical flicks. Playing girl-rocker Sa5m (yea, the “5” is silent) who has a killer voice, Vanessa shows some crazy skills on her guitar.

Aly’s character, Charlotte, on the other hand, is a talented singer-songwriter who has her eyes set on the prize. But, in reality, she just wants to outshine her musician ex-BF at Bandslam.

This ultimate battle of the bands brings out the most talented, yet unlikely groupings, that will either get you jamming out or laughing it up. The story of the band unfolds as Charlotte asks Will Burton (played by Gaelan Connell) to manage her band. Will doesn’t know what he’s in for as he falls for Sa5m. But can he win her over with his quirky, geeky charm? Watch as our fave gang of outcasts develops their own sound, growing together through friendship, crushes and laughs along the way.

For anyone who has dreamed of forming their own band and wants to see what it takes to make it to the spotlight, Bandslam is a total must-see.

Be sure to check out the flick when it lands on DVD March 16, and let us know about your fave character.
