Ed Blog: Veggie By Day

A few months ago, the G-Life girls blogged about going vegan until dinner. It seemed like a good idea, but not exactly for me. Lately, though, I’ve been doing the veggie-girl-by-day thing (and eating a bit of meat at dinner) all the time. How many of you girlies are vegetarians?

At first, it seemed tough to eat healthy AND veggie foods and not be totally starving by 4 p.m. Then, I started upping the ante at breakfast. I ditched the daily cereal and started grabbing plain oatmeal with nuts, whole-wheat waffles with peanut butter and an apple or an egg with peppers and toast. Suddenly, I was snacking less and didn’t wolf down my lunch (which is usually a vegetable soup and barley). Love it.

I won’t be going full-on veggie anytime soon (I heart sushi wayyy too much), but stocking up on nutritious grains and greens before din makes me feel fab every day!

Healthy hearts,
Katie A.

Oh, and P.S. Have you signed up for the Turkey Day Challenge yet?! I’m so on board.

Plus, we're dishing on nutritious, on-the-go snacks to gobble and easy ideas that'll keep you fit during the holidays. Yep, sharing up this fall is gonna be a breeze!

Week 6: Take a Break from Exercise

EATS Get involved with din (and we don't mean picking Chinese or pizza). Chop veggies, find a great grilled fish recipe, contribute a salad course to the meal. Why? Studies show that girls who eat with their fams are more likely to have healthy eating habits.
EXERCISE Take a min to evaluate. If midterms or holidays have you harried, try some yoga. Not helping? Relax and take a couple of days off from exercise if you need to. Feelin' good? Add intervals this week.

Week 5: Wild-card Workouts

Week 5: Wild-card Workouts

EATS Even if you ate a pumpkin's worth of candy, keep goin' with those healthy ways. Hey, learning to strike a balance takes time. Undo that candy caper by having a calcium-packed snack like pudding or yogurt--dairy helps your bod metabolize fat faster.
EXERCISE By now, you should exercise four days a week for 40 minutes a pop. But results will halt if you're on autopilot. Plan three wild-card workouts (diff than your regular routine) and mix them in.

YOU WROTE IT

It was a strange scent, faintly familiar, like the perfume my mother used to wear. The aroma lingered around me, smelling like dried sunflowers and a soft touch of the new spring air.
