EDITOR'S BLOG: What's 4 Lunch?

I’m obsessed with lunch. Around 11:00, I start to ask the other GL girls what they’re gonna be eating midday. Inevitably, I’m disappointed with my own brown bag special (aka whatever I threw together in the a.m.).

Not this week. I spent a li’l extra time prepping my lunches at night. My fave healthy lunch of the moment? A mini plate of cashews, dried cranberries, whole wheat toast and hummus (I totally snagged the idea from one of our go-to lunch spots in the ‘hood). And then a cup of tomato soup and a side salad.

This week, we’re supposed to be makin’ new goals, too. Here are mine:


-Start training for a 5+ mile race for the fall
-Do yoga at home 3 nights a week
-Drink more H20

Week 20: Revist Your Goals And Make New Ones

 
Remember New Year’s Eve when you swore you’d hit the indoor rec pool three times a week? Well, now that you’ve been doing it, it’s not as much of a challenge, right? Look at the changes you’ve made, and reassess your goals. This get-healthy thing is a process.

EDITOR'S BLOG: Back 2 Basics

The sound of silence...sorta

Between AIM, my cell and real-life convos I feel like I’m constantly talking or chatting or texting. Last night, I decided to take a break from it all. I stepped outta my house gadget-free and decided to exist totally unplugged for a while. Even though my neighborhood isn’t exactly peaceful (I live in the city), it was refreshing to get away from the buzz of all those electronics.

I got to take in the whole scene. There were two college students flirting while walking with their bikes (aww!). The kids at the café table next to me were dishing about their fierce pickup soccer match. Everyone was outside, enjoying the gorgeous night. It was super-relaxing, and I didn’t talk to a soul.

My unconnected moment lasted about an hour. When I got home, I checked my email for the millionth time and called my friend Jon about our (healthy!) dinner plans. Then I got back in the chill-out vibe and did a half hour of yoga. Ahhh...

Week 19: Snacking Smart

 

Snacking comes in handy for staving off hunger pangs before lunch and avoiding thirds at dinner. Just see that an occasional healthful treat doesn’t turn into a nosh fest. Keep reaching for string cheese, nuts and fruit, and fend off the urge to down brownies. A mix of protein and carbs (like yogurt and oat bran with a li’l honey, or an apple with PB) keeps you full longer than a bag of gummy bears.
