Must-Do List

BEST OF 2008: THE BEST IN ENTERTAINMENT!

It’s been one great year, 2008! Girls’ Life editors weigh in our very favorite faves in entertainment. Take a look at our list, then feel free to reminisce about the highs and lows before we bid farewell to 2008 and get ready to ring in 2009.

TRISH:
“Taylor Swift vs. Joe Jonas. Were they together? Were they not? That was the buzz around the office for months! But the whole “who broke up with who over what” turned out to be the ultimate he-said/she-said battle among teen stars. I really like Joe—or shall I say LIKED, because right now I’m totally on Team Taylor. I mean, if it’s true, a 27 second break-up call? That’s low—no matter how cute you are!”

KATIE MS:
“The Presidential election! I can’t believe it’s over. It’s pretty much all I read about and watched for the last year or more and now I don’t know what to do with myself! Ha ha! This election was truly amazing. Besides history being made with Obama getting elected, there was also a possible woman VP and a whole lot more.”

L’OREAL: “Barack Obama becoming the first Black president!”

AMANDA: “Here’s my top 3:
1.    The Election. What a time-sucker that was! I was chained to election news morning to night.
2.    Michael Phelps and the Olympics. OMG, I love the Olympics. Watching Michael win that Butterfly race by the littlest sliver of a fingertip was exciting and amazing.
3.    Watching Degrassi and Tales from Avonlea on DVD. 2008 marked the addition of Netflix to my life. And let me tell you, I heart Netflix!”

What was the biggest moment in entertainment for you in 2008? And, what are you most looking forward to in 2009.

Most importantly, HAPPY NEW YEAR, GIRLIES! Here at GL, we’re thrilled to be ushering in another year with all of you. See ya in ’09!

BEST OF 2008: Celebrity Scandal!

OK, we’re suckers for a bit of gossip. So what do GL editors think are the biggest stories of the year? Take a look at our list, then share what you think were the most “Whoa” moments. Wow, what a year it’s been!

TRISH: “Shia LaBeouf’s DUI.  At least all of the consequences he is enduring has showed the public a powerful message: Never drink and drive!”

KATIE A: “Miley's Annie Leibovitz photo scandal. I love how everyone ignored the creep-out pics  with her dad.”

KATIE MS: “Britney Spears...need I say more? Then again she was probably to best scandal in 07, 06 and prior. JK!”

ANDREA: “The Miley Cyrus photo shoot with Vanity Fair because you literally heard about nothing else for about a week. EVERYONE was talking about it. Was it inappropriate? Was it just "art"?  I think the verdict is still out but it definitely rocked the scandal world.”

JIAE:
“Jamie Lynn Spears is prenanct! Wait, was that ’07? Who cares? SO shocking it can go another year!”

L’OREAL:
Miley Cyrus "Vogue" magazine pics

KERI:
“Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon getting married. Who would have ever guessed? Not me!”

SHERRYN:
“Anything with Britney Spears”

AMANDA: “So some members of the GL staff have had the opportunity to meet the Jonas Brothers and Taylor Swift. And truth be told, they’re all nice people. But when the Taylor-Joe breakup took center stage in the gossip columns, I couldn’t look away. It’s like the drama that happens in schools across the country—but on national television! And, the Jamie Lynn pregnancy announcement. And Heath Ledger’s sudden and so tragic death. And, what about Miley’s OTHER pictures with the rumors that they may or may not be her? Clearly, I could go on for days…”

What was most shocking to you this year? Blog about it, babes.

BEST OF 2008: Movies!

There have been a lot of movies out this year. But a few have stood out in our minds. GL editors spill what we think is best in 2008. Take a look at our list, then comment on your own best pick from the past year.

TRISH:
“The Dark Knight. Normally, I don’t necessarily like action movies, but there was something about Heath Ledger as the Joker that made it creepishly realistic and enjoyable at the same time.”

KATIE MS: Wall-E

ANDREA: “Yes, Twilight, even though I have yet to see it. I'm holding out to read all of the books first. It's gotten so much hype and great reviews it's hard not to pick this flick as one of the best.”

JIAE: “Definitely, Maybe – This movie made me laugh, tear and swoon (hello Ryan Reynolds!). What more can ya ask for?”

L’OREAL: The Dark Knight

KERI: “The Dark Knight- what an amazing performances from the entire cast, and this movie totally lived up to and surpassed its hype. A surprisingly good comic book, action hero movie. Totally entertaining.”

AMANDA: “Wall-E. Cute little trash compactor falls in love? And, it has a positive message about the environment. C’mon, what’s not to love?”

What movie did you see that was shout-to-the-rooftops fab?

BEST OF 2008: Album!

Album of the year is a big deal! We Girls’ Life editors definitely dig music. Take a look at our list, then let us know which album you can’t stop listening to.

TRISH: “Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded. I can’t get enough of Rihanna. I must look like a freak to others when I’m driving, because whenever this song comes on the radio I just love to belt it out and dance along with it.”

KATIE A: “Taylor Swift—Fearless! I could listen to this 1,000 times. So presh.”

KATIE MS: Red Album, Weezer

ANDREA: “Taylor Swift Fearless. There was tons of media coverage around the release of her album, including a country award show and that infamous story about the Joe Jonas break up phone call. Plus I loved her old album so much I was super psyched when she came out with a new one.”

JIAE: “This is SO hard. I jammed out to about a bazillion tracks this year from Rihanna and Chris Brown to the Jo Bros and Miley. Not to mention newbies, like Katy Perry and Leona Lewis. But when all is said and done, I say…PASS!”

L’OREAL: Dreaming Out Loud, OneRepublic

KERI: “Duffy, Rockferry. Her hit "Mercy" is only one among a bunch of fabulous songs. This CD is all I have been blasting in my car for the past couple weeks.”

SHERRYN: The Verve's Forth

AMANDA: “Hmmm. Taylor Swift’s Fearless or Coldplay’s Viva La Vida. I’ve loved both of the artists’ previous work, but these new releases totally met my expectations, which can be pretty tough to do!”

Now spill, girls! What album do you listen to again and again and again…

Secret to Success: For me, training is key - whether it's running a mile or two or practicing my shooting form. Without practice, I wouldn't be the player I am today.
