Scooby Doo: The Mystery Begins

Hey, Scooby fans! Are you obsessed with the Scooby Doo movies? Ever wonder how the gang got their start? Well then this new two-hour TV movie is for you!

Scooby Doo: The Mystery Begins (premiering on Cartoon Network tomorrow, September 13, at 7 p.m. ET/PT) tells the tale of how Shaggy, Velma, Fred, Daphne and, of course, Scooby Doo came to be.

Coolsville High is plagued by a suspicious haunting, and fingers are being pointed towards Fred (the school athlete), Velma (the science brainiac), Daphne (the drama beauty) and school misfit Shaggy as playing a spooky prank. The gang must band together to clear their names, but with Shaggy’s newly adopted dog Scooby-Doo tagging along, the quartet soon discovers they have more in common than they originally thought.

Now, we don’t want to give too much away, but what we can tell you is that this live-action movie has action, suspense and a surprise twist that you won’t believe! The flick has all the classic Scooby Doo hijinks. It’s got the investigations, ghosts and mystery, of course. Be sure to tune in September 13 (40 years from when the original TV series began) as the mayhem unfolds.

Will you be checking out the flick? Who’s your favorite Scooby character? Blog about it, babes.

The Vampire Diaries: Did You Watch?

Cute vampire boy, psychic best friend, evil vampire brother (who brings a crow and fog wherever he goes), ditzy classmates, ex-boyfriends, dysfunctional human brother and a beautiful girl surrounded by it all. The Vampire Diaries series premiere was full of eye candy and drama.

Since most of the country is in a vampire craze (we can’t get enough!), with Twilight being at the forefront, it’s hard not to compare The CW’s latest show to the hit book and movie franchise. Let me just say, I LOVE Twilight, but I think I’m going to LOVE The Vampire Diaries too (for different reasons, of course).

The TV show is edgier with its material and the characters are more developed with vibrant personalities. The leading lady, Elena, is dealing with the loss of her parents when the leading man—err, vamp—walks into her life. Elena connects with him right away, becoming more interested when he mentions his parents are dead, too. What Elena doesn’t know, however, is exactly how interesting he is. Stefan is full of mystery and vampire hotness, which only increases when his brother shows up at the end of the show as the obvious villain in the series who really likes human blood.

While Elena starts crushin’ on Stefan, her ex-boyfriend, a jock-type guy, gets jealous. Can we just say we would pick the vampire over the football player any day! Besides the obvious romances, the show has some interesting characters that we can’t wait to learn more about. Elena’s BFF can see the future and saw Stefan’s evil brother show up. And, I have a bad feeling this evil brother is going to try and break up Stefan and Elena (but I could be wrong).

Twilight sure has some competition. The Vampire Diaries is more mature in the themes and content and the budding romance between Elena and Stefan is far more complex. The questions that come from watching the first episode will surely be answered in the weeks to come. Plus, the soundtrack for the show is awesome!

Did you watch The Vampire Diaries? What did you think? Blog about it, babes.

Nina Dobrev: Vampire Muse

Move over, Kristen Stewart, there’s a new girl in town, and she’s in the middle of a brotherly battle between two vampires.

Twenty-year-old Nina Dobrev plays Elena Gilbert, an all-star student who falls for mysterious newbie Stefan Salvatore (a vampire), sparking a rivalry between him and his brother Damon, on the new CW show The Vampire Diaries. And while Nina might seem like a mystery to many, we caught up with the star as she shared a few deets on why she’s so normal…

Her jewelry fix Nina’s into making awesome accessories. But how did it all come to be? “I was eating at a diner with some friends and my fork bent on a hard piece of meat. I continued to bend it until it fit perfectly around my wrist. I thought it was cool, but because I made it, it was THAT much cooler. So I made more for my friends and they really liked them. [I’ve] been experimenting since.”

What she does when she’s feeling bummed “When I get a good cry out and calm down, everything seems to get better. Once you've cried, what else can you do? You've already gone to the extreme. After that, there's no point in sitting there. Time to get on with things and be happy.”

A friendship rule she lives by “Sometimes people you thought you knew can turn out completely different than what you perceived. You live, you learn. You have to choose what kinds of people you want to surround yourself with, the positive or the negative. I chose the positive.”

The craziest thing she’s done for a guy “I've done plenty of foolish things. Love is blind. Its not until you're no longer with the boy that you realize how foolish some things you do are.”

Her most hilarious family vacay “[We were] in Mexico one year [and] the airline lost my luggage. My mom took her oversized t-shirts and made me wear them with a belt as dresses. Looking back at pictures, it was the biggest fashion faux pas I had ever committed, but I was too young to really argue.”

Her own spooky tradition “[My friends and I] still go trick or treating! We hide in bushes and scare kids, and occasionally go to my neighbors’ doors. Hey, free candy! I have a MAJOR sweet tooth. I just can't resist!”

Be sure to see Nina on the small screen when The Vampire Diaries premieres this Thursday, September 10, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

YOU WROTE IT

It was a strange scent, faintly familiar, like the perfume my mother used to wear. The aroma lingered around me, smelling like dried sunflowers and a soft touch of the new spring air.
