Whispers

By Erin C.

As I sit on the beach
the wind blows so lightly.
The whispers of the lost souls
only come nightly.

They talk among one another
I wonder what they say.
No matter what I do
the whispers go away.

Then I hear a voice
whispering along,
say she wants to dance,
then I hear a song.

"Oh young girl,
young pretty girl.
Please do not raise your voice
to far above the noise."

I start to turn, to walk away
but hear the voice again.
Please don’t go, can you stay?
I never went home again.

You and Me

By Kassie R.

You came into my life with such an interesting greet, I welcomed you, not knowing it would lead to my defeat.

We had fun together, that would lead to regret later. We grew up together and changed forever.

You told me we would be stuck together, best friends forever.

But as we grew older, you became colder.

All that I did wouldn't matter, our friendship hit the floor and shattered.

You got obsessed with being cool, which for you lead to a shallow pool.

I wasn't alive to you, walked passed me telling lies.

But I got above your abuse, I left with just a bruise and said goodbye without excuse.

I'll learn real love, I'll fly like a dove.

                                             But you?

Soon you'll fade away like all the weak minded do. Just a mere memory like the morning dew

I Am So Lucky

By Anonymous

Her face stares out at me,
small, tired, pale.
The bed she lies in
supports her slight weight,
the yellowed sheets covering her.
This girl is dying of cancer.
I am here to bring her joy,
to make her smile,
to take her mind off
what is happening.
I introduce myself;
she merely stares.
I ask what she wants to do;
she nearly silently replies:
"Art."
I pull out the supplies;
we start drawing.
She shows me her picture;
it is of her dog that died
seemingly a lifetime ago.
It is lifelike:
I almost want to reach out
and hug the poor dog,
which had cancer also.
Next we read;
I have brought Three Hilarious Tales
in the hope it will make her smile.
It does.
We do the rest of the activities
one by one.
It is time to leave;
I hug the little girl,
say goodbye,
and am out the door.
Walking home,
I reflect on what I learned
with that poor girl.
I realize now more than ever
how lucky I've been.

The next day
when I come to visit,
the girl's parents
are in the lobby,
teary-eyed.
I ask what's wrong
and they begin sobbing again.
"I'll just go see her," I say,
still wondering why they're crying.
The girl's mother stops me,
telling me how the doctors had told her
that during the night the girl got worse.
Her mother and father
had rushed to the hospital
to say goodbye to their only daughter,
but they were too late.
The girl died before they got there.
Now her mother thanks me
for making her last day so happy.
I try to shake off the praise,
not knowing what I've done.
But the girl's mother persists,
insisting on it.

Walking home,
I reflect on what the story
of this one little girl
has taught me:
how lucky I really am.
I say a prayer for her
and her family.
Then, I shed a single tear
thinking of how her family
and I feel: sad.

I am so lucky to have known her,
that poor, sweet little girl.

Wishes in the Wind

By Cecily C.

There she stands, with her friends, trying to act confident.
But she has a secret, should she tell? She mustn’t.
She has insecurities, just like us all.
And the problem is she’s scared. So scared to fall.
Nobody realizes, they just don’t see.
That she is just like you and me.
No more, no less. But she tries her best.
Just to be better than the rest.

Don’t let go.
‘Cause don’t you know, I know.
Hold on tight.
This life is all you’ve got
Don’t lose the fight
‘Cause memories are all you’ve got,
Hold the good times, the light.
While it seems you’re all alone,
There’s someone out there waiting.
Don’t be discouraged.
Because your life is fading, good times are fading).
Don’t let the wind whip away your laughter.
And just because it is faster, don’t give up.
