Hey girl! All these signs are normal for anyone going
through puberty- you will get your period eventually, so don’t stress too much
about it. In the meantime, it’s a good idea to carry around pads, just in case.

I just got my first period!!! And i have some questions to ask you. Please answer them...Thank you Laughing ... okay next month school is going to start again and I'm scared that if i get my period in school, people would notice and i will have an embarrassing moment... or if i leaked. I'm really scared! Any advice? And also is it normal that in the first day you got it, it is lighter than the second day? For example: on the first day i got it, it was light. Now on the second day it wasn't heavy but it wasn't light either. Any advice?
Thank you! Laughing

Hey girl, usually cramps hit before it happens so you'll be able to know when it's coming and be prepared with pads or a tampon. - yes that's completely normal.

please anwser all my questions, thanksSmile
1.) Do the playtex sports (lites) hurt more then the tampax pearl lites, sense the platex sports open 360? does the 360 hurt more then just the width ones? (the applicator is way bigger then the tampax pearl also)
2.) do all of the playtex tampons open 360? like, all the ones ever made, are they 360. or do some open width wise like the tampax? and same with tampax, do all of them open width wise, or do some open 360 too?
3.) do playtex tampons come in just a light absorbency box? not a multi pack, but just a box of only lights, and nothing else? thanks again.

Hey girl. I'd love to answer all your questions, but unfortunately, everyone's opinion on these things varies, so the only way to know which works best for you is to try them out. As for your last question, they definitely do sell just the box of one variety, not a multipack. Hope this helps! xx

Mod mod mod

Ok so i had period last tuesday and it ended on Saturday but today i saw blood in my undies... what going on ?

Hey girl,

It's normal to have spotting or a not-so-regular schedule at first. You can year a panty liner a few days after you have your period just to be safe and make sure you're all done.

i went for a physical when i was 11 and the doctor said i would get my period late 11's or early 12's and now i am 13 almost 14 and i still haven't got it. should i be worried?

by Pascal13 on 6/27/2013 5:44:15 PM

one day i went to my grandmas house and i used the bathroom and i wiped and there was very little blood. but now it has been 2 months and no more blood! what happened was there something worng with me?

hey! there's nothing wrong with you, irregularity can happen, especially the first year. This is something you should definitely ask your doctor about to make sure all your questions are fully answered.

Helen S.

by Pascal13 on 6/27/2013 5:40:56 PM

Will your first period be light or heavy? and will i feel it? and how do i avoid leaking?

Hey! flow is different for everyone the first time, but yeah you do kind of feel it. If you don't you'll definitely see it when you use the restroom. To avoid leaking change your pad or tampon every 4-6 hours depending on flow.

Helen S.

by Pascal13 on 6/27/2013 5:36:17 PM

i was using a tampon on one of the last days of my period (so i didn't have that heavy of a flow), and while pulling the tampon out, a small piece of the cotton came off. I can't get it out! it's not that big a piece (smaller than a pinky nail), but i'm still worried. What do i do?

Hey! I think you should go see your doctor. I had something similar happen and I had to go to the doctor. Smile To be honest, that's what we mods just have to tell you guys when you come to us with any health concerns. You may very well be fine, but since we're not doctors and we can't even see you face to face, it's not for us to tell you what's fine and what isn't. You know your body. Trust your instincts and talk to your doc!

i had brown spotting 2 years ago and a tiny bit of blood a year ago... I'm 13 now and I may be celiac.... When should I expect it ??

Hey girlie, it could be any time now. Talk to your mom about when she got hers. Genetics plays a role in when you will get yours. But there's no exact science or formula to know when you'll get it.

Hey animallover0, I think you should let her know. One, it's important. And two, she'll be able to help you out with any questions or concerns you have with your period. It may be a little awkward, but definitely worth it in the end. Hope this helps! Xoxo Smile

Btw im 12

Hey girl!

You might get your period pretty soon, but don't worry about the other stuff- totally normal! Talking to your mom is always a good idea so she can help you out. Be sure to prep a period kit by keeping pads and tampons in your locker at school and in your purse when you're out with your friends. Here's the 411 on discharge:

Hey. I have a question. I have this good friend. Se got her period eight months ago and started to e on a normal cycle. She came to me for advice. She said that she has sex with herself. She said that she read a article that some females do that and some don't. She is afraid that doing that she will get pregnant. She had next been sexually active with a guy. She is always scared. She cat but a pregnancy test because her parents would know. She had sex with herself in the middle of may, a couple days after her period. She is afraid that she is now pregnant. Can you actually get pregnant from doing that? Pleas answer ASAP please!!

Hey $lover, well first she isn't having sex with herself, she is masturbating. Masturbating is when you do things to yourself down there to feel good. There is nothing wrong with that. It is your body and you can do whatever you'd like with it. This cannot lead to pregnancy. The only way a person can become pregnant is by bringing together male sperm and female eggs. No worries she is fine! Xoxo Smile

Lynae P.

by $lover on 6/2/2013 9:45:42 PM

Try not to be embarrassed, we all get them at some point. You could leave her a note or even send her a text like, "guess what mom, it finally came". I am sure there are other ways of telling her but if you want information just look here on GL for good stuff or look online about getting your period and what comes next.

I got my period but I'm embarrassed to tell my mum what can I do 😁😳

by Poppy567 on 5/27/2013 11:45:44 AM

I have never gotten my period. I am about to turn 14 years old. My mom got hers when she was 14. I have had discharge for about 2 years now, hair "down there", on my legs, and under my arms, I'm a 32B, and I have hormonal acne sometimes. and a few times i have gotten a reallly really light brown sprinkling in my underwear (that isn't my period, my friend had it before she had her period.) So, on Monday (its thursday), I had a slight stomach ache, on tuesday it was a little worse, and on wednesday it turned really crampy, and today its bad cramps and achy. Its all near "down there" and im not experiencing pain anywhere above my bellybutton. Do you think my period is coming soon? Are these cramps a sign of a period or a sickness? Thanks so much!
XOXO Sophie

Hey girl! It's very likely that those pains could be your period. If it continues for a long time then I'd talk to your mom or go to a doctor! xx

Hi when i got my first period last month it did not hurt at all i did not even know it was happening even though i remember getting discharge and being really moody the wierd part was we had a substitute that day in my homeroom and i had to tell her because my other teacher who had a girl was in the bathroom and i had to tell the substitute even though she has three boys and she just stood there looking at me while i was standing there freaking out. Elizabeth K.

by girly girl07 on 5/13/2013 3:10:25 PM

Hi! I've had my period for about eight months. Except, for the past two months I have skipped! My periods have always been so light that I hardly need a panty liner because I'm so active and small. The thing is, I have only been gaining weight and I am about 100lbs and my period has suddenly dissappeared! What's going on? I'm scared that my period hasn't gotten any heavier and has just stopped. I told my mom but she didn't really say much Frown

Hey babe- Its totes normal for your period to not be regular if you have only had it for eight months.  Wait a few more weeks and if you still don't get it then have your mom take you to your doctor.

When I got my first period, back in fourth grade, I'm now in ninth grade, and I had no idea what a period was but, no I didn't have any pain. sometimes I do have a little pain now and then, but only the day after I notice that I have it.

by twise8484 on 5/4/2013 1:48:54 PM

Mod! Smile
So I haven't got my 1st period but I have had discharge for a while. Well, today I have been kind of having cramps in the side of my lower back and I had never felt that before. Is that a period cramp and does it mean my period is coming? Btw, I'm 12. Thx!

Hey VegetariansRule!, yeah it could definitely be a signaler for your period. Be aware of any other changes in your body too. It may be best now to get some pads and talk to a parent just so you can be prepared. Hope this helps! Xoxo Smile

Lately I heve been getting extra heavy white discharge.  There has also been a new type of uncomfortable cramps iust below my stomach to the left. Is my first ever period on the way. I'm a little scared...

Hey girl, check out this post: "What the heck is discharge, anyway?"  If you're worried, talk with your mom, a doctor, or another adult you trust.  There's a good chance your period is indeed on its way.  Good luck!

Karin E.

by coolkitty10 on 4/15/2013 2:54:07 PM

ok, so Im 11 amd got my period yesterday. I started using tampons today but my mum doesn't know I started my period or using tampons. And I'm aware of changing your tampon every 7-8 hours because of TSS. Is there anything else I should know?

Hey girlie,

I would still tell your mom--I know it sounds awkward, but she's totally been there and will be able to help you buy tampons and pads when you need them. Even if you know the basics, she can still help you make sure you're using the right product for your body/flow, and she'll be happy that you trusted her enough to talk about it.

Meghan D.

by KatnissGirlonFire on 4/14/2013 12:53:11 AM

I'm so sorry about your mom. You could either straight up ask your dad to go shopping for pads, or if that's too scary next time your shopping tell him you need to go grab something and just go off to the feminine aisle and grab a box or 2 and stick them in the cart. Your dad probably won't say anything.

So I went to the doc for a physical and she said I will get it within a year. It's been almost a year and I have discharge. I know you get discharge before you get your period I think. I'm confused! Well so far I haven't got my period yet. Any ideas.
Thanks Smile

Hey girlie, not even doctors can predict exactly when you'll get your period. But discharge is a sign, so it could be on its way.

Lauren T.

by APlovesJB on 4/7/2013 6:31:48 PM

Okay this is really awkward for me but...
I have had discharge (at least I think it is) for about 8 months, and I haven't gotten my period yet.
Do you have any ides when I could have it?

Hey peacelove13, mhmm I don't. Periods can be irregular but I'm not sure about the discharge. If nothing happens in the next 2 months, maybe schedule a doctor's appointment. Hope this helps! Xoxo Smile

Um could she have meant the cramps you get along with it? Getting your period itself doesn't hurt at all I can assure you..but you might feel tightness and soreness around your stomach area (not sure what to call for a few days which is totally normal. Don't worry, it's really not as big a deal as you think..I was terrified to get my period and I got used to it within like a day haha..don't sweat it

by maggie183 on 4/1/2013 7:01:10 PM

i've had my period for a year and a few months, and i can promise your period dose not hurt, your sis was just trying to be mean. yes you may get cramps, but i find pain killers like the ones above effective. if your allergic,or cant take them, a heating pad, and physical activity can help.if your feeling sad,or mad try chocolate,it has chemicals in it that make you smile.

by jelly_bean on 4/1/2013 1:57:11 PM

hi i just had my period yesterday and it was very sore down there. is that normal?

Hey girl, yep, sometimes when you get your period it can be sore down there.  If you're worried, talk with your mom, a nurse, or a doctor.  And here are some helpful tips for how to handle PMS.

by luvmyrock on 4/1/2013 11:34:39 AM

For my cramps, I fill an empty plastic water bottle with warm water. Then I just place it to my belly area and usually it helps with the cramps. That's just my remedy! ^^

by susiemoocow on 3/31/2013 10:46:36 AM

I actually find that my period itself hurts a bit, and I get really bad cramps, and even though I'm not allergic to painkillers, most every kind of them just make me throw up! Any other ways to make them go away? Thanks!

Hey girlie,

You can also cure cramps with an ice pack or by putting your feet up or laying down, and you could try taking the medicine with food so you would be less likely to throw up!

by kewauneegal on 3/30/2013 10:33:07 AM

periods themselves usually don't (and shouldn't) hurt. the cramps, however, do. i usually have cramps for 2 or 3 days before and after Aunt Flo...but some of my friends who have gotten their period don't have cramps at all. it's specific to the person, so your sister's cramps/pain may not be what you experience.

Kattrox421. Hi, I can help I suppose... =]

1. I've never used a tampon before, but I'm pretty sure pads are much easier to insert.
2. Depends when you got it. It usually only lasts for 5-8 days though. It does come back, but I'm not sure how much later.
3. YES. Def. They're called cramps. They usually feel like a big huge bubble of gas in your stomach.
4. Welllll.... I would say not to, unless your period is really light.
5. Its very different for every one. Usually your on your period for about 5-8 days, and then its gone for 28 (?? I THINK) days, then comes back?
6. Different for every girl. Around 8-15
7. Yes! When swimming you have to wear a tampon though =]

MOD MOD MOD Hi. Usually my discharge comes out very slowly and then dries before I can even notice it. But lately, it's been, like, gushing out. I constantly have to change underwear (even with pantiliners in) because I am always soaked. Why is this happening? It's never happened before.

Hey girl, I can't say for sure why that's happening, but I can say that discharge can be very unpredictable. The whole period process can be very unpredictable in general, so you're probably fine. If you're worried though, let a parent know or maybe see the doctor.

Hey missy, don't fret your period is on its way. You're having all the signs so I'm sure it's coming. It's important that you spend this time getting prepared for it. Head to our Period Page to learn all about periods, cycles, tampons and anything else. x0x0

OK, 4 girls who haven't gotten their period, yet, it's not that bad. When I got mine, I didn't have cramps, or mood swings. I didn't even notice until I got home from school, and went to the bathroom. Mine looked brownish. Sorry, if this is gross, but just saying. It IS different for every girl. But, again, it's nothing to worry about. Some signs to look for are, that your breasts are getting larger, you might have discharge in your undies, and you might have cramps. You may also be moody. After you get used to pads, you might want to switch to tampons. I know some of you are afraid, but tampons have instructions inside the box. And it is waaay more convenient than pads, trust me!(plus, you can swim with them in!) I will suggest that the ones with the plastic applicators are easier to insert than the cardboard ones.Any questions? Ask Mom or any other trusted adult.~Taylor S rox97

MOD MOD MOD !!! hello, the thig is iv been looking at websites and all the the things that happen to you before you get a period have all happened to not sure when ill get my period.please help my.i donno why,but I want to have a period it And anouther thing.....this clear stuff comes out of my vagina and the hair on it makes it SO itchy! what shoud i do? Tnx Dream Bubble.

Hey girl!

Periods can come as early as 8 years old for some girls and as late as 16 for others. It all just depends on when your body is ready. The clear stuff is called discharge, and it's totally normal so don't freak out! It is a part of your body's cycle, and could be a sign that your period is close. But don't stress or try and rush your period, it will come when the time is right for you!

I do competitive swimming, I dont have my period yet but I'm scared to use a tampon. I hear its supposed to hurt the first time and I dont want to use one, but I have to if I want to keep swiming. Any advice?

Hey babes, it doesnt hurt. Just try using Playtex slimfits the first time around. They are easier cause they are skinnier than regular tampons but work just as well. xo JANA

i just got my first period yesterday at school, and i have had horrible cramps and back pains. so it really depends on the person. But it really isnt that bad just be prepared. Is it weird to take a shower while your on your period? do you leak?

by shannonp on 2/6/2010 12:20:37 PM

MOD! MOD! MOD! I'm almost 13, and all the signs indicate i probably should hav had my 1st period last summer. a day or 2 ago, i was really bloated and had this weird stomach cramp. it lasted a few hours then went away. what do u think this means?

Hey babe,

I'm not a doctor so I can't answer for sure.  But don't rush your body!  Some girls get their periods when they're 10, some when they're 12, some when they're 13, etc.  Your period will come - I promise Smile

Hey babe! She's probably just not comfortable sleeping over in case she leaks at night.  She may not be wearing tampons yet, and that's why she feels uncomfortable, and so she's avoiding an awkward situation.

I got my first period two days ago. I was watching a video about Miley Cyrus on E. I went to the bathroom and there was a huge, dark, red stain. My mom was out buying bagles for lunch, since it was a halfday. I told my younger sister and showed her my underwear. When my mom got home she confirmed it. Now a few close friends now. My mom and me bought a lot femine prodoucts today. Is it weird that I got my first period before my older cousins?

Hey girl! Its not weird because everyone gets it at different ages.

All my friends have had their periods for a while and I don't have it yet. I am 13 but they all got it kind of early. The weird part is I started getting boobs earlier than them and am still a little bigger. I weigh a little less than the rest of them, is that why I am getting it later than them?

Hey girl! Nope, it really depends on genetics. Ask your mom when she got hers and you will prob get yours around the same time.

heyy! i got my period 2 days ago! today i woke up and came down stairs and i turned around to pick up my hairbrush that was on the stairs and there was a trail of blood it was so horrible and to make it worse it was just me my dad and my brother in the house! ive also heard that using tampons an kill you is that true!?!? also is it normal to get big blobs of blood come out??? and am i ok to go swimming with my period? byeee x

Hey girl,

You can swim on your period, but make sure that you are using tampons. Be careful and make sure that you are changing them frequently to avoid getting toxic shock syndrome, which is rare, but can cause death. You get it from leaving a tampon in for too long. It is normal to have a heavy period. For more info, check this out:

Hey girl,

Yes, it's normal for your period to be that color and light (especially since it's your first time). Try getting thin, winged pads for the right amount of flow. For more period info, check this out:

Hey babe, You'll get used to it eventually, but if it keeps bothering you, try a smaller pad (you'll have to change it more often) or a tampon.

Hey girl, unfortunately it can be. Some girls get awful PMS symptoms. My suggestion? Ask your mom about taking some Advil: it should help the cramps for now and then talk to your doc about it next time you see them.

Well, now that I'm aware that I've just had a light period, I have some questions, since I'm just a beginner:

1.Which is easier to insert? Pad or Tampon?
2.How much longer am I gonna have to put up with my period?
3.I'm experiencing stomach pains. Is that normal?
4.Am I still allowed to wear white pants if I have my period?!
5.Is there any certain time or day period is suppose to come?
6.What's the average age for the first periods?
7.Can I still do fun activities? (like swimming, running, ballet, etc...)

Mod, ppl say that paintie liners are confier than pads, but they are thinner, and pads are thicker. I dont have my period yet, but would it work to wear a pad then wear a pantie liner over top? Thx. xoxo

Hey babe,

Nope, the reason that pantyliners are more comfortable is because they're thinner and feel less "diaper-ish" so layering them would probably make both of them even more uncomfortable. Plus you'll probably just soak through the liner and then the bottom will stop it from getting to the pad and you might leak. stick with pads for heavy days and liners for lighter days.

I posted a Question, But Got a Crappie Reply, do u think u could give me a response? Heres the question: Mod, I didn't go to school yesterday because i thought i might get my period, but i didn't, I have alot of signs: a year of discharge, sore lower back and lower stomach, and chest growing. Do you think i will get it soon? I have a big swimmeet tomarrow and i really hope it doesn't happen then, that would be embarrasing. PS: i have had lower back and stomach pain for 3 days.
Please answer, Thanks, xoxo - the reply i got for that was " see a doctor" and that was nooo help at all, why would i see a doc for that? Theres nada wrong with mee! Please answer, xoxo, thankyou
btw i heart your advice! Ps: please dont just give me a link to another page, i just want the response in words!

Hmm those do all seem to be symptoms of your period. However theres no way to guess when your period will come. Even my period surprises me sometimes. I usggest you just keep going about your day normally and deal with the pain (dont worry, youre not alone. All us girls feel the same thing as you). Youll get your period soon. Dont fret. Also about your swim meet i suggest just in case you do get your period right in the middle, you should use a tampon to prevent any mess. Good luck! xoxo kerra

I know this is kinda gross, but does masturbation affect when you get your period?
Thanks in advance! Laughing

Hey girl! This might be better to talk to your parents or a doctor about.

mod mod mod
hey, um i was wondering if u could tell me if you very first period leaks through, i mean if you have never had one at all. i am soooo super close to having my first period, i can tell. but i am 12, so can i go to the gyno. even though you should go between the ages of 15 and 16? i want to get a pretty accurate time of when i am going to get it. thanks! xoxo

Hey girl! It really depends on how heavy your flow is, you can always talk to a doctor. Just be prepared for when your period comes.

I'm twelve and haven't had my period yet. I've been noticing some physical changes and cramps in my stomach, so I think it's coming pretty soon. I'm really worried!! I have a few akward questions:
What is discharge?
Are pads uncomfortable to wear?
Do I have to wear a pad everyday?
Are tampons painful to put in and take out?
Is it really such a huge drag?
Thank you so much, I don't know what do expect and am very worried!

Hey girl! Discharge is the stuff that comes out of your vagina.. it can be clear, white, clumpy, runny- all of that is normal.

Pads for some girls are uncomfortable, while others only wear pads. It's really a personal choice.

You only need to wear pads and tampons during your period. You shouldn't be wearing tampons for discharge and pads might get uncomfortable to wear if you are just worried about discharge. Most of the time you don't even need to wear anything for discharge.

Tampons, when put in correctly, do not hurt at all. In fact, you shouldn't feel anything. Trick is, you have to put it in at a bit of an angle for it to slide in easily, and you also have to be completely relaxed.

Having your period is a new experience when you first get it and can be a huge deal for the first few years. But after you've had it awhile (I've had mine for 9 years!) it's something that is just part of the month and you won't even blink twice when you get it. Everything will be fine! No need to worry Smile

when i first got my period i had to keep it a secret for like 6 months. i wish i could have talked to my mom, but her liver was failing, so she was on her death bed and died like 4 days later. it would have been really awkward to tell my dad, so i just let him take his time and figure it out on his own.

I cant remember the name of it but there is a birth control pill that was advertised during The Secret Life that minimized your periods to 3 or 4 times a year. So if the pain is real bad you can get put on the pill like some people I know. They said it has done wonders for them but it is still birth control so its best to keep it private and only let your really close friends know.

<3 brunettenbeautiful?

by brunetteandbeautiful? on 11/30/2009 3:32:28 PM

ok i have a really important question (atleast to me) i was thinking about this but they have a birth control pill that only gives you 4 periods a year i was wondering about that and if it is a good idea how should i ask my mom also i know that bc is so you wont have a baby (i dont do anything like that)but what if i just want one to minimise how many periods i have please help me asap

Hey girl! Chances are your doc won't put you on bc at all because of your age. And if your doc does put you on birth control it won't be the one where you get 4 periods a year. Usually that's for older women (20s and 30s) I know having your period is not fun, but you will get used to it.

by katiegirl773 on 11/30/2009 1:32:51 PM

ok this is what i think
i believe that more than anything getting your period is kinda gross and disapointing atleast for me because when i dont have it im really happy and cheerful and i move freely and im just comfy with my self
but when those dreaded 7 days come i feel really weird i feel like everyone knows i have it and i cant move freely and i cant be myself is this weird

Hey girl! This is a common feeling among girls who are just starting to get their period. It's completely normal. Once you get used to it and the feeling, you will be fine and feel like you usually do.

Liz L.

by katiegirl773 on 11/30/2009 1:20:14 PM

Ok I have a few questions. 1) Is it normal for a first period to last more than 7 days? 2) does a period get lighter near the end of it? and 3) how can I tell my mom I need more pads without it being awkward?!???!! Thank you SO much!
I really appreciate all the awesome advice you've already given me!

Hey girl! For all your period Qs check out this site:

It won't be awkward if you ask your mom for more pads.  She's been there before and so have we all! No worries!  Just let her know you ran out or are running low and need more.  She'll be more than happy to help Smile

only the cramps and the sore breasts and sometimes putting a tampon in or taking it out but the actual thing of getting your period doesnt hurt it just feels icky.

by edgypunkrockerchick on 11/29/2009 9:38:13 AM

Ok,so this is really can u please block out the rest?

It could be your period, so just put a pad there until you can talk to your mom. If it hurts, ask your dad to let you see a doc. Don't worry--this is healthy! Best,

OMG!! I don't mean to scare all of you dreading your period but for me my first one hurt the worst! It was terrible! But I guess it depends upon each persons body. But don't worry it gets much better. And even your first one really shouldn't be a big deal. And if you do get cramps, aches, mood swings,etc... it should go away or get less painful pretty quickly

I started my period Monday and I only have 2 pads left and a lot of tampons. The thing is I can't go get more pads (which is what I use). Is it ok to use tampons even though my flow is kinda light?

Hey girl, use the light tampons. If your flow is light, you def don't want to use a super absorbency.

ive had discharge 4 bout 5 weeks now.  i want to tell my mom and ask her this stuff butmy sis is 13 and she hasntb had hers yeat so im afraiud she wont bekleive me.and will i get my period son cause of the stuff and the begining of the comment and that im 9 yrs old wear small cup bras , and weigh 75m puonds is this healthy plz anwser

Hey girl, talk to your mom about it. How do you know she won't believe you till you try? Also, a girl can have discharge for years before she actually gets her period. It's all apart of puberty and growing up so hang in there. In due time both you and your sis will have your periods. But in the meantime, if you have any more Qs, check out our Periods, Period hub.

MOD!!!!!! i have two questions. are there foods that make you have your period? and how can you tell if your cramps are gas cramps or menstraul cramps?

Hey, no, no foods will give you your period. Menstrual cramps are in your lower belly as opposed to feeling bubbly in your whole stomach.

MOD im having lots of discharge. is my period going to start soon?

It can but not necessarily. There's no way to tell for sure. Many girls have heavy discharge for a while before their periods and some girls only get it before their periods. Just wait and see and if you're still concerned talk to your doc.

Hey girl,

Sorry to hear about your dad. Sometimes when it comes to convincing parents you are something, the best thing to do is let actions speak louder than words. Do your best to show him through what you do you aren't lazy and remember to be polite. He may be surprised what a busy bee you are.

Hey girl!  If there was a little bit of blood, your period may be starting.  If there isn't anymore blood, it's probably just discharge.  You could get your period soon, but it all depends.  Just keep some pads with you so you'll be ready when it does come.  Best, Kristen

***MOD*** I really hope you can answer my question: I'm 15 years old and I have growth hormone deficiency. I've been taking growth hormones since I was 5. I still don't have my period and I barely have breasts. Does the gh affect puberty, is it the cause of the delay and can it cause me to be infertile? Thanks xoxox

It could be the cause of the period delay.  I would ask Mom to take you to the doc to figure out exactly what is affecting what!  GH is different with everyone so tell you doc what's up and I'm sure you'll get the advice your lookin' for!

Hey girls,
I have had my period for a long time now and all I have to say is: dont be scared! The only thing that hurts are the cramps, if everything is normal. Plus, some people dont even get cramps!
If you have cramps ask your doctor what medication would be best for you, I use Midol. I take two pills and it goes away pretty quick.
Make sure you have pads and/or tampons. I also suggest that you keep the bigger pads and panty liners. The liners you can use when its really light, or you think you might be getting it. Talk to your mom and ask when she got hers, you will probaly get it somewhere along the same age. But it doesnt hurt to get the actual period, be strong and it will be fine.

I hope that helped!

I'm 11 1/2 I believe my period is coming, i just had my first discharge. Thankfully i at least knew it. Should I start with liners or pads just in case?

Hey babe,

You might be right! It's always hard to tell when your first period is going to happen, so it's a good idea to start carrying pads with you whenever you can just in case. If you're really worried about it you can start wearing liners sometimes just in case but you probably don't want to wear them all the time since they can be uncomfortable. don't worry about it too much! When it happens, it'll happen and as long as you can get to a pad you should be okay. Good luck!

Hey girl, there really is no need to be nervous about telling your mom about your period. It's a natural thing and your mom went through it to so she'll completely relate to you. Also if you tell your mom, she'll be able to tell you how to use a tampon. It's hard to describe everything with mere words, but your mom will be able to help you out on this one. <3 Jeannie

I have an idea for an article. It could be like a packing list of things you should bring on vacation.

by sarina_4eva on 6/21/2009 4:31:33 AM

My mom also has MS. I know how you feel. My mom is doing a stem cell transplant to help her with MS. Hopefully it will help her. And I think a article is a good idea for MS. Maybe someone might make one. <3 Bblover20092000

Well you dont really feel anything. When i first started my period i did not know that i had started until the day was almost over. Its not painful, the part that may hurt is the effects it has on the body before it starts Such as two weeks before you start your period you PMS Its when you have Mood swings,Stomach or knee cramps,And lower back aches.Well if you think your about to start use a pad or liner just in case,be prepaired!! Good luck!

i got my period age 14 around new years and my mom got hers age 12 my grandma said she got her when she was 16 so now my younger sister cant even estimate when she'll get hers she is hoping soon but once i told her about the cramps, bloating, headache and more she never wants hers to come

by zany94 on 6/19/2009 1:16:01 PM

for all those girls who dont have their period i want to tell you something!!! ENJOY NOT HAVING IT BECAUSE WHEN U GET IT UR GOING TO HATE IT!!!

by zany94 on 6/19/2009 1:09:56 PM

MOD MOD MOD MOD!!!!!!!!! I am almost 14 and haven't gotten my period. I have started puberty for over a year now. I am so short. I feel so small when all my friends are growing up. I get depressed about my body. Do you have any advice to brighten my day instead of dwelling on how small i am?

Don't be depressed!  You have PLENTY of time to grow and get your period.  If you are having signs it is bound to come sooner or later... just give it some time.  Before you know it you'll be more developed than ANY of your friends!

Ugh I went to the doctor a long time ago and he gave my mom the packet about "growing up" and all that stuff and he didn't even say anything about my period and when we got home i think my mom threw out the packet... I already knew everything anyway tho.

by frostybunny9 on 6/19/2009 9:41:36 AM

My doctor said i won get my period for at least two years. Yay!!

I get bad BAD bad stomach aches during my period. Why is there never an article on bad stomach aches? Is it because it is usually not normal? Is there somethin wrong with me!? HelP!!!!!!!

Hey Girl, are you sure they're not cramps? You may  want to check with your doctor if it continues. *Cara T*

Hi! Ok so my "Aunt Flow" is in town this week and I had a question. Do you get period symptoms the WHOLE time you have your period? Because on my first, second, and third day, I got stomach aches but today (4th day) I am having crampy stuff. Is this normal and do you get this kind of stuff all week long?

hey Girl, its different for everyone, but usually it symptoms may last during the beginning of the week. *Cara T*

I got my period yesterday. Now, my back really hurts as if i haven't layed in a bed for days. My lower back has been like this for the past few months i've had my period. I'm trying to make it feel better by putting a pillow behind my back. It doesn't work, neither does advil. Would exercise help? But my back hurts so much i can't walk for a long time. Any suggestions on how to make it feel better? Thanks in advance ~ <3

Hey girl, if this is giving you serious pain, you should definitely see a professional who will know how o help you effectively. Whether he/she gives you medication or suggestions, they'll help you get through this. But first, ask your parents to see what they think. <3 Jeannie

I hate it, I am almost 14 and i haven't got my period. I feel so little when all the friends are growing up,and i am still a little girl. Sometimes I get depressed. Any advice?

by bajey on 6/17/2009 8:24:55 PM

I dont have my period. I have been spotting on and off (just like two drops a month) for the last like 3 months. I had really bad cramps yesterday. When do you think i will get it?

Hey girl, I can't tell you when you'll get your period. No one can. When the time is right, it'll happen naturally. <3 Jeannie

The first time I got my period was last month. And when I had it I got really tired. My mom says its because when you have your period you lose a lot of iron. So what can I do to get more iron in my system? And sence I just started should start noticing a pattern or is it going to be irregular for awhile?

Hey babe, your mom is right. The best thing you can do is eat iron-rich foods like red meat. Some girls have it regularly but many are irregular so you'll just have to wait and see what your cycle will be like.

Aleve works wonders for cramps. i have to use it every time I get my period. It helps the pain go away.

I get bad tummy aches during my period. This is normal? People say it is, but why don't people ever talk about getting tummy aches during their period...only cramps! Is there something wrong with me?

Hey Girl, Cramps *are* tummy aches! I would just pop some tums and relax when you get home from class. xo Annemarie

I want it but im not but i am soo scared

by graceygirl77 on 6/16/2009 4:19:52 PM

Hey so it's been like 99 days since I got my period and I was wondering if I just started how much more longer should I wait before I see a doctor? I am asking this because I had my period like the first week of march and haven't had it after that so how much more longer should I wait until it comes because IK it can be irregular at first I just want to make sure there is nothing to worry about.

Hey Girl, Your period can take a break because of stress, diet, exercise, and a bunch of other stuff, but if you're upset about it, please go see a doc! It'll make you feel so much better. xo Annemarie

by ~Dancer13~ on 5/31/2009 10:24:11 PM

I just wanted to say that you PROBABLY wont feel much, but when I got my period, I really bad cramps for a while. So, also, if start to get really bad pains in your lower area, dont be worried, just take an IB profen and keep checking your undies!

by jdmancini on 5/26/2009 7:11:34 PM

Oh I'm scared to look!

by polkadotz97 on 5/17/2009 10:35:23 PM

Hey Babes, Congrats! I would change it every few hours but you'll get the hang of it once you see your flow, etc. xo Annemarie

ok, so i am almost 14 and have no idea what will happen when i get my period. all of my friends have it, and my little 10 year old sister is like really close to getting hers (the doc said like 3 months) and i dont know whats going on!!!!

by randa_bear on 5/12/2009 8:25:03 PM

It kinda stinks you don't really feel anything, because if you felt something, you would know, and you wouldn't be 100% surprised. Then again, who wants to ache and stuff?

umsoooooooooooooo yeah i think i got my period but it might just be a false alarm there wasnt a whole lot of blood just a little but idk... I have a feeling its gonna be irregular!

Hey girl! Periods are often irregular at first.  Also the first period may not be a heavy flow.  If you're not sure if it's your period, wear a pantiliner and see how long it lasts.  Best wishes, Kristen
