I am babysitting two girls for a week. They are six and eight years old and the way I'm getting paid is that both me and her daughters go to French school so we finish a week before English schools and in our area there are no camps that week so the mom said that she would be paying 50$ a day for camps so I'm getting 50$ a day so after that week I will have 250$ which is pretty good.

I want to get into the babysitting biz but what
would be the best way of transportation? I'm nervous to ask mom or dad because they don't really like to just drive places when I need something small or picking up a friend. I don't mind walking if it's say, a couple blocks or houses away... Also, what do you think a reasonable price would be per hour?

 

 

 

Hey girl. Try biking or asking your parents nicely (emphasize that it is safer if they drive you). When I baby sat I was paid 5-6 dollars an hour, but I am not sure about what girls are paid now. Sarah, another intern here says, that she was paid minimum wage.

I had a one babysitting job and I thought it went pretty well, but I never got called back. Instead now my bff is babysitting for them almost everyday. Even when she went on vacation for a month, they still didn't get me. Now I hardly get any jobs. Am I a bad babysitter? I love kids, and we had so much fun but I don't know what I did wrong.
How can I get more jobs? There's not many kids around here and I would really like some more work. PLEASE HELP ME!

1.im only eleven
2.i don't have a cell phone and we don't have a home phone
3.she is really protective




Hey girlie, I understand why she would be hesitant, especially since you're so young and you don't have any way to reach her if there's an emergency. Just prove that you're responsible in the little bit of time that you do get to watch them and see if she'll change her mind.

i am a certified babysitter since April.i havent had much buissness on my own.(usually with my friends).and i have posted flyers an did got a call but i had to say cuz it was my moms birthday party!but how do i get more clients?

 

I would ask your parents to see if they could ask their work friends, neighbors or other people they know. Since these people would know your parents, they'll probably be more likely to trust you to watch their kids. It can be tough for a parent to give a call to someone they don't know. However, I'm sure it helps that you're a certified babysitter! Good luck!

Hey girl!




Babysitting always gets sticky when you're doing it for family. It would be a good idea to have a convo with your parents about your situation. Don't be whiny and demand that your grandmother pays you. Try telling them that you find babysitting 10 kids to be overwhelming, especially since your sister never helps you out. Be sure to say that you don't mind doing it, but you need to come up with a compromise that works for you and your fam.

Hey! pack a bag of infant safe stuffed animals, everything else the kids parent should have. To bottle feed an infant, cradle them in your arms, giving their neck and head plenty of support with your hand or shoulder. If they can't hold the bottle yet, hold it for them while they eat. Good luck!

Hey girlie, I think it depends on how comfortable you feel with the kids and how comfortable their parents feel with you babysitting them! But you could also try babysitting the kids in your neighborhood.

Happy (almost) birthday! If you are babysitting kids who are 5-6, it sounds like you are the perfect age! But you want to make sure you are babysitting kids who you can handle, but also knowing that they will take you seriously! You wouldn't want to babysit someone who was 10, because they probably would consider you more of a friend.  Also, how much you get paid depends on how many kids there are!

When you babysit you shouldn't bring your cell phone. The parents won't like that you were talking to yuor friends all night instead of watching the kids. Yesterday I watched a little baby for nine hours, you think its easy but it isn't. You have to constantly keep an eye on them so they don't put anything in their mouth or they don't go near the stairs.

Hey babe! Try babysitting for family-friends first! Or try being a mothers helper, where you can babysit, while the mother is in the house, doing chores/errands, etc.  Babysitting doesn't really require a binder or anything! It just requires a lot of playing, the willingness to want to play games and have fun with the kids.  The biggest thing is to have phone numbers from the parent, in order to contact them if anything goes wrong or if you're having trouble with the kids misbehaving.  Also, if it's a baby you may be required to change diapers.

i got my first babysitting job tomorrow, and i'm super nervous. The kids i'm babysitting are 9 and 6. We know them super well, but the 6 year old it difficult. She also has multiple food allergies. Luckily, my mom talked to their mom, and she said that there are no foods in the house that will casue a reaction. I'm just nervous, and i cant really say why i am, but i don'twant to cancel on them.

I have a family to sit for but they live in the country and one of my friends is their neibors and the little girl told me that she is going to be watching them. The problem is that the one time they asked me i was going to be on vacation. The mom is a preschool teacher and the dad is my princable so they usually don't need a babysitter. But anyway i think she is is trying to steal my job but the one thing is that REALLY bugs me is that she can't even get her homework done on time let alone 4 soon to be 5 kids!!!!!!!!!!!!! what should i do???




Hey babe I think you should talk to your friend.  She may not have been trying to steal your job.  Maybe the fam's parents want a babysitter that lives closer to them for emergency reasons and asked her.  But keep looking for more families and then losing 1 job won't matter as much!

Hey chica, I would check in the newspaper each week, in the classifieds section to see if anyone is looking for a babysitter. Also, you could take a walk in your neighborhood and go knock on the doors of houses that you think would have kids (like ones with toys outside). Introduce yourself to the parents and give them a flyer with your contact into.

Hey girl, have the kids show you their favorite toys, games, books and stuff.  Little kids have no problem talking so just listening to them may be enough time haha!  But then offer to read them a book (or part of one) or play a game.

It is a low-budget wedding with lots of monetary problems going on in that family (the parents aren't helping pay at all, the lady that is getting married has taken in two kids that aren't hers bc their mother died of cancer at age 23) so they are short on cash. I don't want to charge a lot because of that fact, so do you have some suggestions of reasonable prices? Thank you so much!

Hey girlie, I think how much you charge depends on a lot of things like how long you're playing for, how much experience you have, and what type of wedding it is. I think it's also good that you're taking into account the financial situation of the couple. I don't really know exactly how much you should charge, but you could ask them what price range they had in mind to pay to get an idea of how much you should ask, or ask other people who have played at weddings how much they charged!

Hello! I have a question Smile Is there another way for a 14-year-old to get money? I mean other than babysitting and mowing lawns and stuff like that. I really want to save up some money for a new guitar. One of my best friends and I play guitar together a lot and sing (we are actually really good if I do say so myself, we have been asked to play at our church and lead songs and play at house blessings and weddings!!) but I don't know how I could arrange to do shows and get PAID.....or if you can suggest a completely different way to get money, that would be great Smile Also, I'm not really looking for an EMPLOYED job (say, at McDonald's or something) I'm just looking for a way that could get me some cash without having too many set hours that I HAVE to work. I finally convinced my mom to let me babysit! So next week i'm taking the safe sitter class at the Y. So I told my grandma today that my mom said yes. And she couldnt believe it lol. So I told my mom what she said and I was joking around and she said yeah you can babysit. But only here. She meant my house like when her and my dad are around! That's not even babysitting! and knowing my mom she would hold the baby the entire time and if i tried to do something she would yell at me and tell me i was doing it wrong...thats what she does with my cousin anyways!How do i convince her to let me really babysit? Hey girl, I think you should take the class still, and by actually going through with the class maybe you can convince her that with all the skills you learned you're ready. I would be persistent and keep showing her your responsible and ready!

Mod, I'm really mad right now, and sad. My younger cousins, some 2 years younger than me, are all spending the night together. I always feel left out. I'm the oldest! They ignored me today, like always. I left without saying good-bye-I tried saying "I'm leaving now" but no answer. I'm always the one never going on trips with them or spending the night. Hey girly, I totally understand how you feel. Sometimes I feel like that with my bro and sis, who are super close. You could try talking to one of them alone about it, and let her know that you really want to hang with them more often. Or, you could start organizing some get togethers yourself and inviting them. Invite them over to sleep over, or hang out more often. Maybe, that'll bring you guys closer and they'll start including you more. It's possible that they could be not including you because of the age difference. Maybe they think you wouldn't want to hang out with them because you're older. Try inviting them to do stuff more often.

Hey girly, I think the best thing to do, if you think you're ready to start babysitting, is to offer to babysit for people you and your parents know, like your cousins or your parents friends. Knowing the kids you're watching beforehand is really helpful, and you'll also be familiar with the family, so you're parents will feel more comfortable. You could also take a babysitting class if there's one offered at a community center or school!

You in fact do not have to have take a babysitting course to start watching after kids. Let's say you're watching your next door neighbor's little boy, and you've known the family for years. If they really trust you and know you to be a good kid, they'll be thrilled that you offered. However, if you want to baby sit the new family on the block, a baby sitting course might give Mom a piece of mind. A babysitting course would just make things easier anyway.

Hey girly, some families may require their babysitters to be CPR or First Aid certified, in case something goes wrong under your watch.  But most of the time, parents are just looking for someone who will be able to entertain their kids for a few hours.  Practice taking care of younger siblings if you have any.  They do offer classes that help with babysitting, but you definitely don't have to take a course in order to babysit!

For 7 straight hours everyday, I would sit at my computer screen and play...and play...and play some more. I eventually quit just recently after realizing that this was bad for my health and even the blood circulation in my legs because of the way I sat.
So I decided to try and join anything I could get my hands on. I'm waiting to see if I'll be accepted into the Student Concil at my school next year at the moment, and I'm conspiring to join karate and a dance team, possibly tennis too.
I'm also planning on babysitting as a summer job for summer; I've had my heart set on it since the beginning of last year.
My BFF and I are planning to work together on our baby biz once we're cerified (spell fail). But here's my stitch: Most people on my BFF's and my block don't have kids; either that or they take them everywhere they go. I'm worried that our biz won't get enough biz.
We're only doing business with the people in our small town because only a month ago, some dude was found in a van in our school parking with a swiss army knife, a rope, a sheet, and other things. He was arrested. His intentions were unknown. Now I'm absolutely terrified about babysitting, alone, at night, and possibly sleeping in an unfamiliar house.
So now I'm considering doing a different job, but I wonder if I'm better off with the baby biz. What other jobs are suitable for a 13-year-old girl with ispirations swinging at all ends?

I need help! I have recentley had my first babysitting job. I babysat a 3 yr. old girl-Emily and a 5 yr. old boy-Mathew! Emily was great, she wanted to draw, go outside, eat an occasional cream puff(which I can understand why...they ARE good), and draw, but Mathew only wanted to play on my littl sisters DS. The reason he got a hold of it is because my sister (who is 11) gave it to him when I told her not to...so he did not do anything else the WHOLE TIME!! Let her know you would be responsible, give her your cell and house number just in case she has to reach you. Tell her you would have activities lined up to keep them entertained. Hey girl!  The best way to get babysitting jobs is by word-of-mouth.  Let this fam know that you are looking for more jobs, so they can spread the word if they know anyone looking.  Let your mom and family members know, and spread the word in your neighborhood!  You could also ask your sister to help, since she's already got some regular clients.   Good luck with the babysitting!

Hey girl,

Basically, when you work for people, you have to respect their wishes and do things their way.  This means: her parents say that you have to take her everywhere, so you have to do things that way.  Do they have a "baby potty" for her to sit on?  Most parents do have on in the house from potty-training, so it might be helpful to get this out and have her sit on it while you sit on the "big girl" potty.  It might even help you guys bond in a weird way - she is most likely doing it because she looks up to you and wants to be like you!  You can try the tub idea too since that would make clean-up easier.  Just keep trying different things and don't get discouraged <3

Hey! I'm pretty sure it may differ from state to state. But legally: 12 years old is the age, however most girls don't start til they're 13 or 14, so that way they feel comfortable and mature in babysitting the kids.  Also parents are more likely to trust teenagers, and ask 12 year-olds to act as mothers helpers rather than babysitters.

Hey! I think you should babysit him only if you feel comfortable. Maybe try babysitting him for a short amount of time the first time you take the job.  He could just like to be held, but voice your concern to the mother and she'll show you what to do when he cries and how he likes to be held best.  Usually moms with babies are very helpful and write tips for babysitters when the baby is acting up.

Hey girl! It really depends how comfortable you feel but I would def up that price a little! I would say $10 is usually pretty standard. You are taking care of their children and to have the best care, they shouldn't mind shelling out some extra bucks!

I took your advice from the last comment and calmly discussed the matter with my mom. She got furious with me and yelled at me!!! She doesn't want me to be unsupporvised or without an adult. She claims she doesn't want me in some one else's house. I told her we wouldn't baby sit people we didn't know, but now I'm in trouble! I'm not going to bring it up for a while, but, I need money!!! My mom also wants me to save money for a bike. I need a new bike, but i've been saving money for other things. When I wanted a pair of knee high converse, she said no because she thought they were ugly and told me that I need money for a bike!!! I don't know what to do anymore! HELP!

I am very responsible, on National Junior Honor society, get great grades, and love kids. But no matter how hard I try to convince my mom, she won't let me. I am thirteen years old! I think the only thing you can do is talk to your mom about it. If she lets you, then you can make flyers and post them around town.

Hey girl, I started babysitting when I was around 11 years old. You just have to be confident in the fact that you are in charge. I never seemed to notice it being a big deal. As long a you establish that you are in charge, and prove that you should be (don't feel flustered when it comes to making dinner, putting kids to bed, etc.), then you should be fine.

I've been baby sitting for almost 3 years now and lately I've been getting paid any where from 10-15$ an hour. It really depends on who I baby sit for and what time. The most kids I've had to watch at once was 4, it also helps to have older kids be "helpers". I've baby sat kids from the ages of 3-12. (did have an infant once but she slept the whole time)

MOD!MOD!MOD!I'm 11 and really good with kids. I have had a bunch of expierence in my church's nursery and i've been offered around 15 jobs since i turned 11 in July. A bunch of the moms their want me to sit for their kids because they know i can take care of their kids and their kids all like me. I know baby/child/adult CPR and I have taken a babysitting class. I was talkiing with my mom and she says I need to be 13 while I am already ready to start my jobs. I'm tired of waiting and letting the parents try to find other people. I live in the country annd their dosn't seam to be anyone else offering up their services. The parents know I could handel it, I know I can handel it. What are some tips for convincing my mom. I have even heard some parents say their just waiting for me to be allowed to babysit. I really want this. !HELP!Ineed my mom to understand that I am ready now.

It's been a long time since I was a paid babysitter, so I'm not sure what the rates are Frown I'm sorry!  Try asking some of your babysitting buds if they have any recommendations.  If you can't do that, just go with your gut!  Remember: minimum wage for any "real" job is $7.25 an hour, so you might wanna keep it around there or a little more.

Hey girl, if you want to take a babysitting class, it certainly wouldn't hurt, but it all depends on your experience with kids. I would be careful putting flyers around your neighborhood. Only accept jobs from people you really think you can trust. A good place to put them also is daycare centers. Good luck!

Yeah, that is how it works. Some parents prefer if you take a Red Cross class but you don't have to. I think that would be a great place to start.

Hey new babysitting girls, i hav a few tips 4 you!HERE YOU GO: You should always try 2 arrive a few minutes early- maybe 5, but 10 might be pushing it. When you arrive early you can distract the kiddies while their parents get ready to go to wherever they're going without their kids getting in the way! Also bring some cool things from home that the kids will like to play with so that they don't get bored with their toys. And as soon as they kids go to bed wash the dishes and pick up whatever is out, even if you and the kids didn't get them out- you might get a few extra bucks and they will def want to call you back next time!

I'm just getting started with babysitting and i have a kinda different situation. There are these two kids that i'm supposed to babysit soon and i'm not sure i can handle it. One is 4 and the other one 2. and the problem is that they only speak french. I go to a french immersion school and speak french pretty fluently, but i'm really nervous. I've only babysat them once before but with my sister, and now she's too busy with work, i'm just sooo unsure about this situation.

I think you'll be okay. since they're so young you probably don't need  that much french to talk to them. If you're really nervous talk to the parents and see if you can schedule an unpaid playdate with the kids while the parents are around so you can get some practice.

Hey chica, yep getting any type of job these days is hard. But why don't you start with family. Ask some of your relatives who have young kids if they need a sitter. That's a good place to start because your family knows you best, so once they see you're a responisible babysitter, they can pass the word along to their friends, and you'll be in buisness. Smile

You should ask your sister if you can pick up some of hers.  Also if she's ever unavailable have her tell them to contact you.  You can also make fliers or business cards to distribute throughout the neighborhood.  This will show people that you're responsible and really interested in getting a job!

Hey girl, 11's a little young for babysitting, so I can't blame your sis. Right now you'd be a way great mother's helper though, so start from there and show her how awesome you'll be so when you get old enough, she'll let you be her official babysitter. Don't take her convos personally right now -- most girls don't start babysitting until they're 13 or older.

Talk to your dad about it and see what he says. He might be okay with it, or at least with you putting up fliers around your school or giving them to your teachers so that you know any clients you might get would be people that you can trust.

Hey missy, you should start by asking some of your friends to join. Come up with a name and start organizing all the info. Assign jobs to each person (who will answer phones, who will babysit, etc.) After that set up hours and pay for your babysitting group. Decide who works which nights and how much you will charge per hour or per kid. Next, create a flyer with all your babysitting contact info, (phone numbers you can be reached by, address, etc. ) and get the word out by mouth too. Play games with them. For babies try things like Peek-a-Boo, singing, dancing with the baby, or hiding stuffed animals throughout the house and looking for them with the baby. For toddlers, try coloring or playing hide and seek.

Have your parents ask around at work. They might have a coworker looking for a sitter. To earn a bit of cash see if your neighbors need someone to do odd jobs: pulling weeds, walking dogs, etc.

We were both going to go to red cross training today, but my parents both work, there is no one to take me, i lost my cell on vaca at my cousins house, and she still hasnt replied my email on the flyer that i made.

1. You don't need training, but it's REALLY helpful and parents will be glad you have it, especially parents who might want you use your business but don't know you personally.

2. You can put them in people's mailboxes. Even if they don't have kids, they might know someone who does!

I'm having a tough time getting gigs and I even took a babysitting class and first aid class for it! This helps but my parents don't know many people who have kids and don't have an older sib to watch them. I also love on a street with no other kids so hopefully putting up fliers will help.

Hey babe,

Talk to your family and family friends and see if they're looking for a babysitter first. Remind them about all your experience and ask what rate they think is fair. since they already trust you to help out, you have a good start. In the end it's going to be up to the parents to decide if you're old enough and what they should pay you. You can ask for a small amount to help out instead of more to babysit full-time too. It won't be as much money, but it'll help you get experience for when you're older, and making any money is always helpful!

i would try any of the or all of them!  You never know till you try and you can prove your responsibility just by taking action!  If they ask if you've had babysitting experience, don't lie, but explain how prepared and excited are you to be babysittin their kid!

Hey girl, It doesn't really matter whether the kids are there or not. If you want to babysit, go ahead and tell the adults that you are interested. There's really no way of specifically doing it. Just go up and tell her that you would like to babysit someday. Also it says in the articale that if you can't get the word out, you should try making fliers. As for convincing your mom, you have to show her that you are responsible and willing to take on the challenges. When she asks you to help, do it. SHow her that you're ready. Hey babe! 

A lot of parents are super protective of their kiddies and so they tend to want older girls to babysit. It doesn't mean you wouldn't be a great babysitter, it's just that parents just tend to want older gals. Definitely offer to be a mother's helper! The moms will get to see in action how great you are with the kids so they'll be more likely to hire you in the future as a babysitter when you're just a tiny bit older.

With calling the parents if the kids are crazy, remember being crazy with a babysitter yourself? Yeah, we've all been crazy at least once in our life time. Maybe you broke something and they couldn't get you to calm down so they could clean it up. Or maybe you wanted to play with something and your sibling was, so you were yelling and throwing a fit for pretty much no good reason. All I'm trying to say, is everybody is crazy once and a while. So it's okay if these kids are a little nuts.

Still, it could get a little nuts, really bad nuts, too. THEN you call the parents.

OK! I have only babysat once for a ex-boyfriends little sister. Well actually we weren't goin out at the time but like my 'rents and his 'rents have been friends for like 4 years. The we started going out. I only babysat for 2 hours while Sherri (the mom) went to a PTO meeting. i really want to babysit more people but i dont want to like make posters cuz my mom is a princepal and like most of the town knows us. It would just be to embarressing. What should I do. Cuz I want to get paid and like my moms friends have kids like around my age or a year younger. Im 12!! and they have older siblings that could babysit them. What should I do?? Sorry it's so long!! Frown PLEASE HELP!!!




Hey Girl- If I were you I wouldn't worry about it being "embarassing."  If you wanna get the business, you have to let people know you're out there, and what better way than with flyers.  Hang them around for a bit, and if you don't get any calls, you can always take them down.<3Ash

Hey girl, 9 might still be a little young for most parents to agree to. Maybe you can start going with an older friend or relative when she babysits just to see what it entails. Plus, I'm sure she'd appreciate the help!

It's better because the person actually gets to see the person that will be babysitting their kids and you can make great conversation by handing out flyers. Your mother helping you out is a great idea.

 I would just walk up to and ask people in the church if they need a babysitter next weekend like after church service. You could say you are babysitting to learn about responsibility and someone should def offer. Flyers are a great idea, but I would hand them to people and not post them up.

TIP!!!!!!

If the kid you sit for on a regular basis will NOT go to bed? Dont quit sitting for that family just set their clocks 1 hour or 30 minutes later so when its 8:00 and time for bed the clock will say 9:00 so when the clock says 8:00 (its really 7:00) you can say BEDTIME! and if they freak you have an hour before they really have to be in bed! (Dont try this on older kids cause it will not work cause they are smart) PS: SET BACK THE CLOCKS WHEN YOUR DONE!!!

Ask your parents if they can help you find some people to babysit for, a co-worker or some neighbors.  This way they're involved and they'll feel more comfortable with you working.

i babysit a three year old, and hes just hitting the terriable twos. (late bloomer. lol) its not always fun. at all. but what i learned is that when the kid is acting up, i pick him up and sit him in his "time out chair" the kid TOTALLY stops! i just make sure to hug him after so that he knows im not mad. then i stick an elmo dvd in and he doesnt make a peep until the movie is over. magic!

Here`s some other good tips!!
*Always ask if the kids have any alergies.
*Check on sleeping children like every 30 min.
*Check on awake children like every 5 or 10 min.(it seems like a lot, but it takes like 2 secs for a kid to get hurt or get into something) And if ur babysitting younger kids keep them in sight at all times.
*Never leave a little kid in the bathroom unsupervised(sounds weird, but u never know what a kid will do in the bathroom!)
*Don`t be too bossy!! Remember u ARE the boss but u can still play with them!! Trust me, if u play with them, they`ll give u a better report to the rents!!

MOD- So I went to this sleepover last night with 5 other girls. But at like 1 or so we decided to go to bed because we were going to get up early, so anyway. My friend woke me up and was like "I feel sick" and I was missin' home and not feelin' so hot. So I said that I did too and we decided to call our parents because we didn't want to sit there the whole night wishing it was the next day so my mom came and picked us up and then we dropped my friend off at her house. My parents weren't mad but I am kind of embarassed I did that. Should I be embarassed? Does this happen to a lot of people? Thanks! Sorry this is so long!

 

Don't feel embarrased, it takes awhile to sleep at someone elses home. Just keep doing more sleep overs and eventually it will all fall into place.<3 Sherryn D.

about calling the parents, before they leave, and not in front of the kids, ask them if it's okay for the kid(s) to call to say goodnight if they want to. that way the parents will be expecting a call, and u can also give a little report, "timmy ate well and is getting ready for bed. Have fun, see you at ten thirty!" or something like that

Okay,so i have to clean my room what are some ways i could start cleaning it and like make me want to keep cleaning it and not throw everything in the closet? Also i want purple highlights and my mom said it was fine and so we went to go get them and we were gettin them from hot topic and then she read the bottle and it said it culd make me go blind if i got it in my eye so we ended up not buyng them! She said she would take me to a professionaal to get them done, the sitch is, i dont want to get them done by a pro, cuz what if i didnt like them? and the one from hot toopic was demi permanent which means they would come out in about 7 weeks so tht is why i really want those ones... and also i want to get my cartilage pierced, my mom, i havent convinced her, im an only child too, so she may not want me to grow up,(im 12 and a half) and when i ask for a reason she says i said no and i get all po'd, so yeah and my moms boy firend said he was alright with it, i am even willing to pay for it! and i told her tht he would take me but she still says no! ugh! im really mad at my mom! Whoa babe, you have alot of questions, lol.. Try to get containers with compartments with it to store stuff that you don't want to throw away. Also, get your hair dyed professionally at a nice salon to prevent any funny stuff from happening. Next, and maybe you shoudl wait to get your cartilage pierced. I've pierced ears before and I know you can easily get that area infected if it's not properly cared for. wait till you are older and when you can deal with that. Lastly, try this site

I babysit my nephew and neice all the time and my nephew just started the phase of wanting his mom when he goes to bed...i just rock him or if it gets too late i lay down in my bed (since thier room is shared with me)and eventually he will go to sleep...having a picture of his mom really helps him.

tip about babysitting: try to make going to bed fun! pretend that you are the head director of a train and use the bathroom and any where else the kids need to go to before they go to bed as the stations!
