I'm a muslim, and my religion says I can't even touch boys before I marry. My mom, before school dances, tells me it is okay to dance but not too close. So I think she doesn't believe in that part of Islam that much. I'm kinda scared to ask her, but do you think it would be okay to have a boyfriend but not kiss or anything?? Tong




Hey girlie! Absolutely! It doesn't sam in the Islam faith you can't have a boyfriend who you can talk to and hang out with. As long as you keep true to its principles about not touching the boy you should be ok. As for your mom, I'm sure she'll agree since she said it's ok to dance with boys as long as your not too close - having a boyfriend to talk to can be seen as the same thing. I've known plenty of friends in high school who went out with boys, but they just never held hands or kissed. Just make sure the guy you go out with respects your religion and will honor the fact that you guys can't kiss while you're going out.

I have this same problem, except the guy I like is Christian (very conservative) and I am Jewish. We both like each other very much, but his parents don't want him seeing a Jewish girl. They told him that we are just too different. I really don't want to disobey his praents, but I don't think there being fair. Help?




Hey girlie,

I have a best friend who has also dealt with this issue, but I wouldn't recommend what she decided to do: her and her BF see each other in secret and their parents know nothing about it. It's tough on both of them Frown Religion is a strongly-rooted belief system though so you can't really talk them out of their beliefs. But how does he feel about things? Try talking to him about your options and see what you can do. He might be able to talk to them - not to change their minds, but to stick up for his own feelings and work through them together. Or he might know of a way that you can hang out and get to know each other without actually calling it dating to his parents. I'm really sorry, I wish I could give more concrete advice but you kinda have to go with the flow right now til you two come to an agreement Frown Good luck <3

I don't think the different denominations should matter, if your both Christians. God hates division, so your basicly dividing yourself from other Christians who don't share in the exact details you do. Most of the time the differences aren't that different. We're all (including me)Christians and God loves us all!

I was reading the other comments and I now have something else to say. God's love is bigger than any love. God IS love. Remember that. Also, the denominations are not seperate religions. I hate how there is so much hate between members of different churches. Aren't we all brothers and sisters in Christ?

this situation is exactly what happened with my parents. My dad was the son of an Episcopal pastor and my mom went to a Christian church (yes, that's a denomination). None of that ever mattered. They are still completely and totally in love after 16 years. My dad even became an elder at my mom's church. There really aren't that many differences. God has adopted you both and you are both loved by Him. Don't worry about it.

**********MOD MOD MOD MOD!!!!********************** okayy.. so i have the most amazing guy friend ever, and he is also my crush. he plays guitar, is in sports, and an all around good guy. he jokes around a lot, and one time we were out together in a group and we were joking around. all of a sudden, he starts telling everyone that i'm his girlfriend! so then i told him that he had to make it official and actually ask me. of course, i was kidding. however, he turns around and asks me. i thought he was kidding so i said no. now that i think about it, i thought that he was being serious and he actually likes me. he has a girlfriend now, and we are all in the same group of friends. the other day, he and his gf were hugging, and i looked over at him and his eyes caught mine. in that moment, he looked at me like he has never looked at me before. could there be something there?? i don't want things to get weird though...

1 of my bffs delany likes this kid named drew. theyre both in my spanish class. at the school dance, me and my friends just finished dancein to like miley cyrus and she turns to my other bff and says," drew was totally just watching Ashley(thats me) while she danced". she was pretty annoyed. that was last week. then today, in spanish, delany was takin a missed quiz in the other room and i saw him lookin at me again. then she comes in and like 5 min later, shes like,"omg hes lookin at me!!!". but i sit right next to her.

My parents are somewhat different religions... My mom is Southern Baptist, and my dad is Catholic. We have found a non-catholic church that i love going to, but sometimes my parents argue over certain things with the religions. my dad says when i get older i will have to choose between religions, and I'm almost set on where we are now, because i'm learning so much more... any advice?

MODMODMOD Okay, I need some guy advice and sorry, but this is gonna be long. There's a boy named Jack (who I like) who is in my math class, which I have every day during 7th period (out of 8 including lunch,) and he's in my gym period (1st period so we roll out of bed and run laps outside at like 8:00 am) but not in my class (we have two classes in the gym and while one takes health for one marking period, and then we switch. Yes, our school is huge and has a ton of kids, around 1500 between the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.) He has two guy friends that he's usually around, Justin, who is in his gym class (and none of my other classes), and Richard who is in my gym class (which doesn't really matter because we always just merge and do whatever we're doing together) and my math class. His friend Justin always says hi and looks at me when he sees me, and Richard attempts to talk to me (he always calls me Aliza when my name is Alyssa, which is also kinda funny) in math to ask what I got for answers and we'll goof around with this other boy, Phil(who's kinda hot but I don't really know him. I like Jack better cause he's better looking, funny, nice, we went to elementary school together too (I'm in 8th grade) etc.) I thought he might like me, but now he sits two rows to the right and one seat back. He used to sit behind me (where Phil sits now) or diagonally behind me to the left (where Richard sits.) He switched to over there one day cause this girl Nikki was throwing a fit like "No! I want to sit there!" even though Jack got there like 30seconds before her. We don't really have assigned seats but we usually sit in the same spot so ever since Jack sat further away, Phil and Nikki stayed there and he kinda stayed in that new spot. Then last night I txted him like "OMG! I just got BOOed for the first time ever!" and then went on to tell him I was probably that hyper because I had cocoa puffs for dinner. (BOOing is this thing we do in my area where you put candy or halloween stuff on someone's porch when it's dark and run and then they have to do it to two people) Then I realized that I probably just made myself look like an idiot so I txted him again like sorry, I was just hyper, but he never replied My friend is gonna talk to him for me, and I've already told him to let me know if he needed help with the math homework, and tried several of the icebreakers you have in the icebreakers section which worked pretty well. What do you think my chances are with him? Sorry this is soooooo long by the way! Thanks!

uhh hey MOD, i have a question. (anyone else who wants to answer, be my guest.) well, i have this guy friend that i'm pretty close with. we can call him bill. i used to like him, but now i think i'm over it, but i'm not really sure how i feel about him. so, a few weeks ago, bill texted me and asked me for some girl advice about this girl we both know (apparently she had been saying awkward stuff to him like "i love you" and he didn't know what to do). he told me not to tell any of my friends, but a friend was going through my texts and saw the message. she told some people, and bill found out, and then bill told me that it wasn't true at all, he was just seeing how i was going to react, which sort of annoyed me. but i just laughed it off and we were cool again. then last night, he texted me again and asked me that if he wanted to ask a girl out, should he do it in person or by text? and i told him in person, then i asked him who he wanted to ask out, and he said it's not me asking a girl out, someone else. (and idk if this is related or not, but bill doesn't really have any close guy friends, so i have no clue who the person could be.) so, i was just wondering, do you think bill is trying to "see how i will react" again? like i can't tell if he honestly needs girl advice,or if he is trying to lead me on, or what? guys are so confusing. thanks mod!

i think i really like this kid.

I've known my crush for a few months now and liked him the whole time. He and my friend were dating off and on for a while, but now they're done. I thought he might like me so I amped up my flirting and wrote on his Facebook that I expected a dance with him at this Halloween party we are going to. He wrote back, "But of course! Hey girlie,




Try and hang out before the dance in a group setting. That way you won't be totally nervous hanging out with him alone. Make little moves like holding eye contact or touching his arm. Even if you're too shy to talk to him as much as you do online he'll know that you are into him by subtle movements. After a while you'll start to feel more comfortable around him and you'll be talking to him just as much in person as you do online.

HELP! I REALLY LIKE THIS GUY. He is a bit on the dorky side, he luvs video games and does just really dorky stuff. but thats not my prob, he doesnt notice i like him!!! He's really nice to all the other girls in my class besides me! It's not like he's mean just a normal semi-immature boy. Plus he flirts and smiles at this other girl in my class. I've liked him for three years now but he's never noticed if anything he likes that other girl. Honestly, at your age it shouldn't matter. Religion really only causes problems in relationships when they get very serious in older teen years and in marriage. I'd say, just don't worry about it and have fun with this guy!

I remember when I was in 5th grade and this guy and I were really good friends for about 5 months until he found out that I dont go to church(I am Christian, though). ok, heres my OPINION. I am methodist and i am currently dating someone who is baptist, so i totally get where your coming from. also, like you i didn't really know what the difference was. my advice is that if you want to learn about his religion...talk to him about it. thats what i did, i just started asking questions and is opened the door for so many spiritual conversations and now i know him so much better. as for the whole 'does it matter' thing. i bellieve that while i may go to the methodist church, above anything else, i am daughter of God, i have a personal relationship with his son, jesus and even though i mess up like crazy i know that he still loves me and is more than willing to take me back, in fact he WANTS me back. And i believe that as long as i place my value in being a daughter of god, the specifics of methodist, baptist, etc, don't necessiarly matter, as long as you are both chrisitans. also if you want to get another's opinion on the baptist v. methodist thing, ask your youth pastor. It is really very interesting.

Okay so we had homecomming a couple of nights ago, [SOOOO fun!] And a guy that i liked in 7th and 8th grade {still kinda do this year also} came. So I REALLY wanted to dance with him, and I told my friend that she can go ask him to dance w/ me. So she did and she said *we'll call him Joe* "Hey Joe, Can you PLEASE dance with _____?" She said he sounded flattered, and he did blushing face and said "Maybe later." So a bit later she goes up to him and he says "It's not later." So it's 30 mins. until the dance is over, and I'm like "THAT IT! Is he going to dance with me or NOT!?" So she goes over to him and then he says "No." She said not the rude way AT all. He didn't dance with any girls AT ALL, he just mostly hung out with his friends. But I got REALLY sad at first and went to the bathroom and almost cried, but I'm like "You can't cry over him." And during that time period of him thinking about dancing with me - saying no he KEPT ON looking over at me! I'm SO confused! And the part I'm SO not excited for is he's in my science and english class. Science he sits SOOO close to me, and I ACTUALY started talking to him this year WAY more, and I don't want to ruin it! Frown My friend said don't worry about cuz he sounded flattered that someone wanted to dance w/ him, and they get along reallly good so she'll kick his butt {HAHA!} But in a way I can't just not worry about it! My 7th grade, i had no classes with friends either. I suggest you make some new friends in your classes and make sure you see your friends outside of school. OKay, here goes..
I'm in 8th grade now, and this boy (who I have liked since the 7th) is in... 4 of my classes, so we see eachother everyday! Well, the thing is, is that when (if) I do talk to him, I turn all weird and say something stupid, and just turn even more red than I normally am(since I have some ance [it's gotten better' yay!] it makes my face like... red). The thing is... I am possibly in love with this boy. He's cute.. smart... funny... and happens to be in my every thought. It's gotten bad, really bad. I didn't even know it, but I guess I was staring at him during class, because my bff met up with my after class and said she saw me.. so that's embarrassing, because I didn't even know it. In 7th grade, I fell for an 8th grade guy, lets call him Jim. Jim was really sweet to me, and funny, and he liked me back. But at the time, I wasn't ready for a relationship, so nothing ever really happened. I hadn't seen him for a year, since he started high school, but now this year, I'm a freshman, and he ended up in my math class. And I've totally fallen for him all over again.
So here's my problem - Jim's best friend told me that Jim likes me. However, he asked a girl I know to homecoming. His friend said he did it to see if I'd get jealous, to see if I liked him. But I think he kind of knows that I like him because all my friends make it really obvious when I'm talking to him. We talk a lot, my friends have caught him looking at me during class, and sometimes he seems like he's flirting with me, but then I'll see him in the hallway and he won't even make eye contact!
So what should I do? Should I believe his friend and ask him out? Or should I just let it be and see what happens?! Please help!!

When you're young and not looking for someone to marry or anything, religion shouldn't really be a big deal.
Also, those are both Christian, so I don't even get how it's a big deal in the first place... Catholic, Baptist, Protestant, whatever, you're all worshipping the same God. How mass is performed is really the only difference.
11 is WAY too young to be dating anyways, in my opinion.

Over the summer, i dated this guy i REALLY liked. two weeks in to school, though, he broke up with me and i was really upset (we go to the same school, are in the same crowd, and have a class together). The day after we broke up, he tried to talk to me like a friend but i was still really mad and hurt and we ended up arguing. A few days later, i thought i was ok to try and just chat with him, but again i was too upset and we fought and we haven't spoken in a month now. I've been ignoring him cuz i didn't want to fight again and wanted to wait til i was calm to try and be friends. His birthday was last week, so i made a point to text him, etc. Just subtely being nice. This weekend is Homecoming (i'm not going and niether is he), so i was going to wait til it was over before i said "hey i just needed a little space. can we try and be friends?". But on monday we got in to a HUGE fight for no reason. It's really ridiculous. He's very liberal and i'm conservative, but i like debating politics with him because he really forces me to think about WHY i believe what i do. There was a political debate on Facebook (see how pathetic this is?) and i joined in and he and i ended up arguing/debating, but out of NOWHERE he got really personal, trashing my dad, my family, my writing, and saying i had no real friends and that i scare boys away. I was SHOCKED at how angry he was because i'm not mad at him. Now all our friends have seen the argument and all think he was being an absolute jerk. I agree, but i'm upset that he was so angry when i have no idea why and when i was totally chill with him. I don't know what to do. Please don't tell me get over him; i am, but i still care about him and don't want to never speak again. HELP!!

That's so hard when someone really close to you disagrees with your opinions.  If everyone had the same opinion and political views then the world wouldn't be nearly as interesting and diverse.  It's important for each of you to voice your opinion and try to see where the other one is coming from.  Just because you have different viewpoints does not give him the right to start bashing your family!  Have a chat with him one-on-one and let him know he really hurt your feelings when he started to get really offensive and mean in his debate.  Let him know you still really care about him as a friend, and don't want to keep fighting with him.  You will be the stronger person if you tell him this instead of bashing him right back.  The talk is between you and him, and not for Facebook.  Sit him down and let him know what's on your mind.  If he doesn't want to listen, he's really not worth your time! It's different for all girls! Some parents are more strict than others! I've heard a lot of girls not able to date til highschool or around 13-14 years old.  It's what you are comfortable with! Don't date til you're ready!

Laughing we kept the convo going but then we each had to go. so that was gr8. but now i feel lonely! i always hate the weekends (todays friday Cry) and can't wait until school. my friends, teachers, crushes.... everything! none of my friends will answer and i cant go out to play cuz its 7:15 and dark. i want to text mikey again soon but idk when. tomorrow afternoon? sunday? and how can i feel better? sorta like withdrawal/depression cuz i luv school and texting him so much. thanks.

i had a party last year that kind of turned out a flop. it was a all girl party, and some of my friends just stayed in my room the whole night, while like 4 more of us were in the living room having a party. i figured they were just talking. then one of my straight friends informed me that she hooked up with another one of my friends....they weren't just making out, they were doing alittle more. in my room..i can't talk to them anymore! this is sooo awkward, especially since it was between two female friends who've always been straight. and i feel voilated. please help me get over this situation!

Tell your friends as calmly as you can how you feel. They really didn't respect that your room is your personal space and it's totally okay to be upset about that. But try to be understanding and support them if you can - they're probably going through some confusing, difficult stuff right now.

My ex-bf's family was methodist but he was atheist and I'm Catholic. I didn't exactly like him being atheist I'd much rather have him a religion but I didn't figure out after and it doesn't matter.

odd, i was always told i was penticostal (i didn't know how to spell that LOL) but i just lookd at the menaing of baptism & it did sound a lot lik what my church does. i find ti odd lol but oh well Smile. u shouldn't worry about diff religions! it doesn't really matter right now, so just focus on the great bf he is rather than his relig.

7 months ago, i really liked this guy, in my skool. i became friends with him (my other friends who were in his class helped me 2 talk 2 him) after 2 months, i told him about my feelings 4 him.. he said, "let's just be friends 4 now"
i didnt talk 2 him 4 2 whole weeks cause i was feeling really awkward, n it was so hard cause i see him 4-5 times a day, so i talked 2 him on msn, as it was the easiest way 2 talk 2 him again
i thanked him 4 not rejecting me in a mean way, he said that he didnt reject me, he likes me a lot, he just needs 2 know me better, i asked him whether he was saying that more as a friend or not just 2 be sure, n he said yes, then my friend told me that he likes me only as a friend, but i didnt believe her, i asked him again, he said he liked me, but then eventually, i found out that my friend was right, i talked 2 him about that n he said that he was awfully sorry, he didnt have the heart 2 tell me the truth, so i tried getting over him since then(which was 6 months ago) but i still cant.. i wanna get over him so badly!!! but ijust simply cant! why?? i even tried to hang out with my friends but in vain. i was trying 2 get another BF 2 4get him, but since am not... pretty n not cool like others, i cant get one, is something wrong with me?? any advice??

 

Hey girl! It can be really hard to get over someone, but you should try to hang out with your friends or other guys so that you can get your mind off of this guy.
