I can't get the hang of tampons

I’ve been on my period for two-and-a-half years and I want to use tampons but every time I try to put one in, it hurts...

MOD MOD MOD! My period came today, unexpectedly while I was at school. I was totally unprepared, so I had to stuff toilet paper in my underwear. But this is like the heaviest period I've ever had! I've had my period for a year, and used tampons, but only regulars. I am scared of using super because they are so big but my period is heavy! I soaked through a pad in 2 hours! PLEASE HELP!!

 

Hey girlie. Try using a super--it will last longer and your period will not leak. Give it a try.

MOD MOD MOD Hey i'm 12 (13 in may) i asked my mom about tampons and when i could using them, and she went crazy. She said that wat was i thinking about putting something in there that doesn't belong. i told her that everyone uses them but she is very strong about it. What should i do?

 

Your mom may be over reacting a bit, but in the end, she's still your mom and you have to respect her. If she doesn't think you're ready yet to use tampons, let it go for a little while and continue using pads. After a while you can bring up again and see what she says.

Basically, tampons fit into your vagina so that it soaks up your period and you don't have to worry about leakage.  You don't really have to worry about it "penetrating" anything.  This article has a great explanation of how to use them, if that helps!: http://www.girlslife.com/post/2009/06/23/007-Period-Advice.aspx

Hey girlie,

What do you mean, it hurts it? How does it hurt? Sting, burn, ache? Where does it hurt? Your period might cause severe cramps but the flow itself should never hurt. If you're hurting or are irritated "down there," tell your doctor all your symptoms so they can make sure you're healthy!

Is it ok to use pantyliners even though I don't have my period, but I get discharge?




Hey chica,

It's totally safe to use pantyliners for some extra protection! It might be a little uncomfy though... I always would've rather just gotten used to the feeling of discharge instead of using pads/pantyliners, but it's a personal decision ya gotta make for yourself!

MOD MOD MOD: This is really embarassing, but I bought a box of regular Tampons and I can't find where to put them in! I used a little hand-mear, but I don't know which "hole" to put it in. I know it's the Vagina, but I just don't know where still! Please help!

hey i got mine when i was 10 so im 13 now and i lov them. when i frist tried them they hurt for me then i got worryed and i suked it up and talked to my mom. dont be scared and if u dont hav a mom around than go to a close adult friend that u can trust.

mod um i just got my period, and i do dance, meaning i wear a leotard, and you can see my pad ! i don't know what do , and i'm definatley not wearing a tampon ! help, please ! (:




Hey chica! I'm not sure what you mean by you can see your pad. If it's peeking out the sides of your leotard, then try wearing 2 leotards. Maybe the first one will help conceal it. Pads are much harder to conceal than tampons, but you might want to give tampons a second chance. Once you get the hang of them, they are great to use. You can't feel them when inserted properly, and they are completely concealed.

The best first tampon is Playtex Gentle Glide, the multi pack with Slender Lights and Slender Regulars, so you can switch sizes once your done with the lights. It got recommended to me from one of my friends so I tried them and I loveed it! The fact that they were slender helped them get in easier oh and the reason they might of hurt is because you were probably tense or anxious which caused your muscles to tense up or you started off with a too big tampon.
