I can't get the hang of tampons

I found for me it was very easy to use tampons. Right away i was able to put it in and it worked! But i seriously hate my period it comes at the worst times possible. -.-

Hey chica! Don't leave a tampon in for over 8 hours. If you do, then you'll be at greater risk for getting toxic shock syndrome.

Hey i'm 12 (13 in may) i asked my mom about tampons and when i could using them, and she went crazy. She said that wat was i thinking about putting something in there that doesn't belong. wat do i do?

MOD MOD MOD! Okay, so I've had my period for 3 years now and always have used pads. My period is always very heave and usually goes through the pad onto my underwear and sometime throught my pants. I want to start using tampons because of this, plus I play on a travel softball team so I'm always playing which makes it even worse. My mom said I would when I turn 14 (which will be in March) but I heard you can get a serious infection or something from tampons. I know absolutely nothing about this but now I'm scared to use them. Can you explain this infection? And am I going to get it if I use them? Please answer as soon as possible! Thanks! Smile

 

The infection that people worry about getting from tampons is Toxic Shock Syndrome, or TSS.  You can get the deets about it here:  http://www.girlslife.com/post/2008/07/31/TSS-Tampons.aspx.  The good news is, you can help prevent it by changing your tampon every four hours and using the lowest absorbency possible for your bod.  I know it sounds scary, but tampons are truly safe (otherwise women wouldn't use them at all!).

I'm just scared of putting it in and not being able to get it out. O_O I'm really good at thinking of worst-case-scenarios. Not the talent I'd been hoping for. :/
