mod mod mod i do not know how to ask my mom if i can wear a pad because she has pretty small ones that are made for girls around 10 or 11 but i need to wear a pad because i have discharge but i do not know how to ask my mom but is it normal to have discharge when you are 8 becuz i am 8 but my mom will say you have not hit puberty yet

Hey girl, just ask! She was your age once too. If she's not understanding right away, try to get some from the health room at school, or use the small ones for now. Those are safe to use until you have a heavy flow.

Remember that pimple thing i had down there that I told you about like 5 or 6 days ago? Well it's still there and it's getting bigger. It really hurts when I'm sitting or it I'm walking. What could it be? What should I do? (I already scheduled an appointment at the doctors but its not till next week so what should I do to it so it doesn't hurt until then?)

Hey girl-

Lynae P. isn't modding right now, but it sounds to me like it could be an ingrown hair. Talk to your mom/ trusted adult and ask them what the best option is so you can feel better the fastest! xoxo

I'm nervous, what should I tell the counseler? Won't they tell my parents?

Hey girly, a councelor can tell your parents if they feel that there is a need to. But maybe you could talk to your councelor about how you can talk to your parents about how your feeling. Or you could even ask your councelor what kinds of issues she has to report before you start talking to her about your problems. That might make you feel a little easier about talking things out. Good luck, babe.

help, I'm so stressed out, my parents are getting divorced, me and my friends are fighting, I have so much homework and I'm paractically failing all my classes because I can't concentrate on homework at home when all I hear is my parents fighting. Also I have my period and my headaches are killing me.

That sounds rough hon. I am so sorry you're going through that. I honestly suggest you find someone to talk to. Your best bet is the school counselor. They'll be willing to help you and listen to you if you need to vent. All you need is some support right now and they'll be able to get you that. I hope you really consider going to them. I also hope things get better for you hon! xoxo kerra

What should I tell my mom about the dress? And another question. I have this bump down there and I don't know what it is it kinda looks like a pimple and it hurts a lot when I wipe down there. What could it be?

Just tell her what happened girl. I don't think she will be mad. I had one of those but it turned out to be nothing. See how many more days it lasts and if it is still there after 7 days I would make an appointment with the doctor. Hope this helps! Xoxo

PLEASE ANSWER ASAP
Today at school the most humiliating thing happened to me. I was wearing this really cure white dress, and even though my period ended a few days ago (like 4 or 5) it came back and it leaked through my dress. I didnt have any pads and niether did my firneds, Everyone saw it!!!! I'm really scared to go to school tomorrow because I'm afraid they're gonna tease me and stuff. Plus my mom bought me the dress for $25 and she wants me to wear it to church on Sunday. I'm scared that if I tell her what happened she'll get mad about me ruining the dress.

Hey Sarah_12, if the kids see that you aren't embarrassed about what happened, then they won't feel the need to embarrass you. So go to class confident and act normal. If someone does tease you about play it off and speak up for yourself. No one will probably even think about it especially since that it's Friday and everyone is thinking about their weekend plans. As a woman I'm sure your mother will understand. Every girl has had that moment when their period creeps up on them, so no worries. It's better to tell her now because blood can stain very badly. Hope this helps! Have a great day of school! Xoxo

Im confused...... I had my period for the month on like august 7th and it stopped on august 10th but it came back today. Is this normal? Because i know it is if ur just starting but i have had my period for like 1 1/2 years now!

Hey! the only way to really feel reassured is to talk to your doctor about all of these questions Smile To be honest, that's what we mods just have to tell you guys when you come to us with any health concerns. You may very well be fine, but since we're not doctors and we can't even see you face to face, it's not for us to tell you what's fine and what isn't. You know your body. It is constantly heavy and I have to change my underwear every couple hours cuz I've bled through. Also, I have this really, really, REALLY bad pain right below my belly button, and I've had this ever since it started. My mom said it would go away but it hasn't and medicine doesn't work. Are they cramps? I've never gotten cramps before. What should I do? PLEASE HELP! Thanksss <3

I just got my first period, how do I tell my mom?

Hey girlie,

Try catching her one-on-one while she's doing the dishes, making a snack, reading, or brushing her teeth. There's no easy way to do it, so just take a deep breath and say - "Hey mom? I got my period today. Do you think we can go get the supplies I'll need?" She has her first period too so she won't be grossed out. It's nothing to be embarrassed about...but you gotta tell her! <3

Hey, so I get my period ever 2 weeks Frown I hate it...(who doesn't) but I have had it since July, I have been getting it every 2 weeks since September/ October. Is this normal? If not I don't wanna tell my mom, or my doctor...that would be awkward. Also what questions does your doctor ask you about your period at a physical?
Thanks

Hey girly,

The fact that you have been getting it every two weeks is something you really should get checked out by a doctor. As for physicals, they will probably ask how often you have your period and when was the last one you had. Don't worry about telling your doc or your mom these things girly. Every girl has to deal with periods and it really isn't that big of a deal.

i know this a really weird question but at what age do u start wearing a bra??

Hey honey! It's not a weird question! Every girl thinks about this! You can start wearing a training bra at a young age, maybe at 6 years old. However, some girls develop earlier than others. Go to your doctor and have her measure your chest to see if you need to start wearing a regular bra.

Hey! Sounds like it to me, just the other day I started crying for no reason too, and then I started to pinpoint what could be making me sad, which only made it worse. Once I realized it was just hormones I felt better and you can too. I feel like to some extent, once you know something is controlling your feelings you can work through it Smile good luck!

Mod I always think I started my period but it ends up being discharge like in the middle of class I will feel wet and go to the bathroom nope it's discharge What does getting your period feel like??!!

Bonjour chicky! When first getting your period, it can be a bit random. Sometimes you'll get a bloody discharge for about 3 days and then it will turn back to clear. It takes some time for it to finally start becoming consist (getting it for about a week every month) so just be patient and make sure you have a pad with you at all times just in case

MOD MOD MOD!!! I've had my period since November 2009. I've had a light to regular flow for a while, but since about September of 2010, it'd gotten a little heavier. Not out of control, but still heavier. Is this ok? Also, I've noticed that only one brand of tampons fit me comfortably and have little to no leaks. But other brands I've tried aren't comfy and leak within 2 hours. Does this mean I'm weird?? Thanks in advance!!!!

Hey chica! You are not weird at all! This is something most girls experience. Periods are normally lighter in the beginning, and can get heavier. And as far as brands go, I can only use one brand! Any other just doesn't fit right and won't work out for me. Don't fret, these are definitely common problems for girls Smile

Hey girl, while I wouldn't tell her that her BF is not right for her (that'd go over badly, trust me), you can express your concerns about his character. Just tell her to be careful: from experience you know her BF has really hurt you and you'd hate to see her in that sitch too. From there, let it go. If she asks you to hang out with him and her, you can always decline and make alternate plans to hang with her solo later.

MOD MOD MOD So I have had my period for a few monthes and it has been fairly regular so far like period shows up 2 days late at max Smile but this month I expected it between the 7-9 but I am stil waiting... I wanna be prepared but I also know it could be late for a lot of reasons. What should I do? how should I prepare? also Do you think its normal for a girl in Grade 8 to skip her period because of stress. Because one month I think I was late by a few days due to stress... this worries me becuase I do not think a 13 year old should have that much stress :/ I am so confused :S

Hey girl, It's normal to be a little irregular during the first two years of your period, actually.  Definitely check this out:  http://www.girlslife.com/post/2010/10/04/My-Period-Started.aspx.  You can always check with your doc if it is a concern.  But if you feel like you have too much stress in your life, that's important to work out, even if it's not affecting your period.  Think about what's making you so stressed, and make small goals that can help you ease it up this new year. Smile

I'm 12 almost 13 i have gone through puberty i have breasts and i need to wear deodorant, i have hair everywhere , im curvy , my voice hasnt changed that much just a liitle. I get cravings sometimes i have mood swings or get really sensitive. Im short like not even 5 foot but it runs in my family. But i still havent started my period after showing all the signs of puberty. I dont know why. All my friends have started their periods but one. So im waiting for my period and i feel kind of left out. Is there something i can do to help myself from being left out? I know that some girls get their periods as late as 16, but i cant help myself from being sad. Please help. I hope this wasnt too personal.

Hey girlie,

Don't be sad! Periods aren't horrible, but they aren't that much fun either. Think about it: cramps hurt, it's annoying to have to change your pad all the time, sometimes it leaks and you have to deal with stains... try to enjoy life and don't worry about your period! If your friends talk about it, let them chat for a little while and then try to change the subject. Be prepared for it, but like you said, remember that you could get it as late as 16. Be thankful that you're growing normally - being healthy is the most important thing Smile

i got my first period on wednesday and it was fairly regular (in flow) but for the last 2 days i haven't had any blood on my pads at night or in the morning then half way through the day my flow kicks in again! does this mean my period id ending?

Hey girlie,

Your period prob seems like it "goes away" because you were laying down all night! If your flow is normal during the day, your period probably isn't ending - you'll know it's ending when the flow gets much lighter in general and the color changes from bright red to lighter red or brown.

Hey girlie,

If it looked dry and brown like a stain, it could have just been a stain from your sister that mom couldn't get out in the wash. Try wearing a different pair and seeing if it happens again. Either way, it's a good idea to carry a pad around just to be prepared! Smile

Hey girlie! Here are a couple of ways to help make your period more bearable. First, a healthy diet filled with plenty of fruits and vegetables plus water. Also partake in regular exercise, even it just means a nice long walk, in order to boost up endorphins (the body's natural pain killers). You can also engage in stress reducing activities such as yoga, massage and meditation

But yesterday, 2 days ago, and about 4 days ago the discharge has been more gooey and stretchy and ropey. I know, gross. I heard this stuff could mean I'm ovulating. Plus, yesterday morning before school, I have a pain way down low in the right side of my stomach. Does this mean I am going to start my first period soon? I have started growing boobs and pubic hair about 2 1/2 years ago... so I'm afraid it is my period. But I'm not sure. Please help!! Thanks <3

Hey girl, it could be but it's hard to say. Give it a couple days and see what happens. Be sure your discharge doesn't smell too off too: if it has a cheesy smell and weird consistency, it could be the sign of an infection (eck!)

Mod mod mod soõ I've been verry mood swingy or I get really upset and mad and like jelouse easly. But ya I've meen getting mad really quick like today my mom was telling me that my room wasn't cleen but I cleaned it yesterday so I ignored her. Then later she came back and started telling me to g cean my room so I fot really mad and started yelling that I cleaned it the day before now I feel bad and I don't want any of this o happen again but what dod I do to calm my emotions Tuanks in advance

Hey girl, I'm so sorry to hear about the mood swings.  Unfortunately, that can be one of the downsides of going through puberty.  If you feel yourself about to blow, take a few deep breaths and count to 5 before you say anything.  That will give you a sec to cool down and choose your words carefully.  Try to do things to help yourself de-stress, like by eating healthy, working out, and doing things you enjoy to relax.  And when you do get harsh with someone, let them know you are sorry.  Also, consider reaching out to someone (like your mom) to tell them what you are going through.  They may not be able to change it, but having support can help.  xoxo

I'm 13 and I haven't had my period, but I have been showing signs that it is coming. How can I be prepared and am I late because most of my friends have started already?

Hey girl,

No way, you're not late at all! Sometimes girls get their periods early at 10 or 11 years old, but some girls get it as old as 16! It'll come when your bod is ready, so try not to compare yourself to your besties Smile You can't figure out exactly what day/month/year you'll get your period, but you can still be prepared. Carry a change of undies and a pad at the very bottom of your purse/backpack. That way, if you get it at school or somewhere else and aren't expecting it, you'll have all the supplies you need to stay fresh and clean til you can get home.

MOD! MOD! MOD!,
Please help!I have all of the symptoms of a period coming.I was wondering how will I know I got my period? Will I feel as if I wet my pants?Or will i not notice? Also will it be easily seen on my underwear?
Sorry if these questions are wierd or personal!
Thanks sooo much!
-Z.Z.

Hey ZZ,

Nope - not too weird or too personal Smile we're here for any type of question! As for your period, yes you will feel a little wet in your underpants probably and you will definitely see it in your underwear. Usually periods start off light and brown, then progress to heavier and red. You'll probably catch it in its brown phase - just throw those undies in the wash and throw on a pad with a clean pair to stay fresh!

ok I'm tottally cofused I started getting headches and acne in 5th grade and also started to discharge and I'm in 7th grade now so what does this mean?? Ok I have heard that u might start ur period the same age ur mom did is it true??? Thanks
xxx

Hey girlie,

Nope! You might start it at the same age as mom, but that'll only be a coincidence. You're your own person and will start whenever your own body is ready Smile As for the other stuff...that's great you've shown signs of puberty. That means you're well on your way to your first period! But unfortunately, you can't tell exactly when that first period will be. It could be next month or it could be a couple years from now! Just try to stay prepared (have pads at home and know what to expect) and relax in the meantime <3

Mod,
I got my last period back in like August or September and ever since then I've had a good bit of discharge like every day and I have to wear a pantyliner like everyday, and it's really annoying! There have been other signs that I'll get my period again soon, too, but they've been going on for like 2 or 3 weeks! What's goin on? Thanks in advance.

Can leg cramps be caused by your period? Please answer ASAP!!

Hey girlie. I've never heard of periods causing leg cramps. Normally, periods cause cramps in your tummy. So, if you are having leg cramps, see a doctor or talk to your mom.

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD!!!!!! Yesterday i was at my friends house and i went upstairs to go to the bathroom. Thwen i called her name and i said i think i got my period. BUt it was more like bloody discharge and it was everywhere and she said it was and she had hers for 1 year. now that its been a day i think it went away!! WHAT HAPPENED!?!?!

Hey darling. When girls first get there period, it can be a little random sometimes. It all depends on each individual's body and its functions. I have a friend whose period only lasts for three days while mine lasts for five. You have to just let your period do its thing and just always be prepared by having either a pad or a tampon at all times.

MOD MOD MOD MOD Right now I am lying in bed and my cramps are killing me. I have my laptop across my stomach ( cause the bottom gets kinda warm). My family is all asleep and I don't have a heating pad or any medication now. What should I do?

Hey girl! I know everyone's probably awake now, but next time you're in that situation go ahead and wake your mom up. Tell her what's going on and she can give you the medicine you need to help relieve the pain! I would also tell her now about it incase it does happen again and you really don't want to wake her up. This way you guys can be prepared! Good luck! Hope those cramps take a hike!

MOD MOD MOD MOD On the first days of my period I usually get pretty mild cramps. But I've been noticing that over the past couple months, my cramps only start after I lay down to go to bed. In the morning I feel fine and the same throughout the day. Is this normal? Or is it just coincidance?

Hey girl! That's completely fine! When you're laying in bed you're not doing anything so you have time to notice any cramps you may have. Plus, when you're moving around you're less likely to have them anyway. It's definitely normal, and if you want to help ease the pain some try keeping a heating pad next to your bed. It helps a bunch, just don't keep it on too long!

I just recently got my period, so I know it's normal to be irregular but I got off my period about a week ago and i'm already feeling moody crampy and basically pms-y already. Do u think i'm gonna get my period again and if so is it normal to have two periods that close together?

Hey babe,

Like you said, it's totally normal for it to be irregular when you first start! Just be ready for it (carry pads and a change of undies just in case) and try to relax! Turn around your attitude by working out a little each day and doing things you enjoy - that'll pull ya out of any moody funk Smile If your period is consistently irregular (like over the course of months), you can ask your doc to make sure everything is progressing healthily. But just take a deep breath and wait this one out <3

Hey babe,

The best thing to do is to make a work out schedule to make sure you exercise at least 60 minutes every day. Make sure your workouts are fun and vary it up each day so you don't get bored! Read our workout tips some ideas for your own routine Smile Pair that with good food choices and you'll be set! You don't necessarily need to stop eating all the junk food, but you need to cut back. Eat three meals a day and, if you crave a snack, make it a small portion that is healthy, like fruit or veggies or a granola bar. It won't happen overnight, but make your goal "Getting Healthy" and you'll start feeling better soon!

ok so i have a bit of a problem. right now i have an 100 degree fever and im stuck in my bed, which is a loft. to get out would mean id have to climb down a ladder. this morning i realized while i was sleeping i had gotten my period so i climbed down and put in a tampon, but then on my way back i almost threw up(i didnt know i had a fever) and now ive had the tampon in for 2 and a half hours and i can feel it bleed through! i also know that at some point im going to have to change it anyway cause i dont want to get TSS but im worried that if i get out of bed im going to throw up!
thx in advance

Hey girlie. Sounds like a tough situation on your hands, but you might have to go down that ladder one more time, for as you said you don't want to get TSS. Do have any pads on hand? If you do, just take the tampon out and put on a pad (or if you don't have one, just wrap a bunch of TP around your panty - believe me, I have done it quite a few times) so that you don't have to keep getting up to put in a tampon. You might have to throw up again, but believe me, it's a lot better than risky TSS.

I have all off these symptoms but im only 10. the only one i don't have is acne.Should I start carrying around a pad in my backpack?(Im in the 5th grade)

Hey girlie. That wouldn't be a bad idea. Sometimes girls don't get all those symptoms before their period, but it can still come at anytime. Just make sure to watch out for spotting, and if you see some, apply either a pad or a pantyliner.

Hey girlie! This could be the first signs of you getting your period. Typically, before periods, girls might have mood swings. Look out for spotting and make sure to have a pad handy for your period may be coming soon.
