5 summer-worthy bashes to bust winter birthday blahs

Tired of the typical winter parties? Mix it up with the warm-weather bash of your dreams...

I have a fall birthday coming up. What should I do for it? I'm turning thirteen and I want it to be special, not a movie like everyone elses... Any ideas? I was thinking of maybe going to a museum, but my mom doesn't think science would be fun at a birthday party (its an interactive science museum, but most of my friends and I have been there before). Please help!

Hey girl,

If it's your birthday, you should do what you want--if that's at an interactive museum, I'm sure it could still be fun, especially if your friends have been there and like it! You could also go bowling or to a skating rink, or just have a party at your house. Happy birthday!

Mod Mod Mod.!! for my bihday it's gonna b more special because we get out of school the day after, so i want something to do at my party that is really fun, because my birthday basically starts out the whole summer!!!! what do you think i should do?!

Hey girlie! Have a themed party- like a luau. Or, go for a pool party. You will have to get a lifeguard and think about safety precautions for that though.

Another really fun party idea is a tie dye or make your own shirt party. I am doing it for my birthday and it would go like this:
If it is warm enough to go outside:
Ask everyone to bring a shirt to tie dye
Get a few bottles or dye or some tie dye kits
Using the directions on the kit tie dye the shirts
Let your guests take the shirts home as a sort of souvenir
If it is cold you could do a make your own shirt party inside (tie dye is messy so I suggest saving that for a warm day so you can do it outside):
Ask everyone to bring a shirt
before the party stock up on puff paints, fabric markers, iron on letters, and anything else you can find to decorate shirts with
make your shirts and let them dry
make sure your guests don't forget their creation!

You know what? I have a winter birthday, and I have no idea how to celebrate it. I want something original. I'm thinking about having a party at my house, but I have too many friends. I've already invited my BGF. So, I'm conflicted on what to do. I want it at my house, but I don't want him to know where I live. If that makes any sense. I want to hang out with him, but around all my friends. And my parents. But, I live around 10 minutes from his house. I timed it. His brother knows where I live. His brother's friends with my brother. But, he's not a bad guy or anything. My parents love him. And, they trust him. So, it's not like he's going to do anything. I just feel weird having him at my house. I guess, I just need to know how to ask my parents about all this. Having a guy at my house. My dad freaks out at the mention of the word "boys". But, the only guys who I would have at my party would be my guy friends. Well, that and my BGF. Help me please.

Well, as you know, there's not a way to have it at your house and have him not know where you live. Don't do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable - is there anywhere you may want to have it that wouldn't be at your house, like at a restaurant, or going to a place for something like ice skating? (However, that could get expensive with a lot of friends so you'd have to check with your parents before mentioning it to anyone.)

If you decide that it would be too weird to have him at your house, you could change it to an all-girls sleepover or something and let him (and the other guy friends) know that you're really sorry but it's going to have to be girls only. However, if you want to invite guys, I would talk to your parents about it and see what kind of concerns they may have about having guys over. If they're OK with having guys over, talk to them about any rules they want to set. Make sure you abide by their rules and you can explain the rules to your friends, too. Good luck and happy early birthday!

MODMODMOD Hi, I really want to have a super bowl party and maybe sleepover but I don't want my guests to get bored when we're not watching the game or afterwards. Any ideas for fun things to do but also stay in the "football spirit"? I thought about face-painting for our fave team but I'm lost after that...

Hey chica!

What a great idea for a party! You could get a soft football (like a nerf ball) and play a little tag football outside or in your basement to stay in the mood. There are also tons of great football movies that you could watch once you're all ready to crawl in your sleeping bags. Check out Invincible, The Blind Side, and Remember the Titans for a start!

Mod mod mod please!!! My birthday is Feb.18 and im plannin to have a couple of my bff's and me sleepover in a hotel with my mom. Do you have any ideas of things we could do??

Hey girl! That sounds like fun! Where are you planning on staying? If you feel like traveling to a city that would be fun! You could go see a broadway show or go out for a birthday dinner then have a sleepover at the hotel! You could always set up a beauty salon in the hotel and give each other mani/pedis and makeover each other as well! Hope this helps girl! Happy Early Birthday! XOXO
