Hi so i am growing taller and im overweight but i dont look like i am overweight. Does growing taller have anything to do with that?




Hey girl!

It's totally natural to gain weight as you grow taller. There's more body to ya, which means there needs to more weight to you! If you're severely overweight, consider working out and changing your diet. But if you just feel as if you're overweight but you really aren't, try not to worry about it!

ok... so I read a health article recently that disproves the whole "if you're craving sweets just take one bite" thing. apparently, sweets and fats have chemical properties that are addictive so after the first bite, you're drawn in. the article stated that the effect of sugars/fats have a suimilar effect as heroin on the human body. do you know any workouts that take away some fat from your calves? im a ballerina and ballerinas usually have big calves(compared to their thighs), but i don't like it and i get self conscious. its not that big of a deal but if i could make my calves smaller, that would be great!!!!! Smile

Hey girl, sure! Sunflower seeds are very healthy for you. The one thing you need to watch out for is all of the sodium that is put on the seeds. Try to find low sodium or plain sunflower seeds next time you look for some.

The healthiest way to slim down and get fit is a combo of healthy eating and working out. Being active is major - it's tempting to spend the summer lounging by the pool or watching lots of movies inside, but getting active even just 60 minutes each day will do wonders! Organize a game of basketball with your friends, take a brisk walk around the local lake, bike to the pool, or pop in a new yoga video you rented from your library. Pair this with thoughtful diet choices (eating three balanced meals a day, snacking on healthier things like yogurt, carrot sticks, granola bars, or whole grain toast instead of cookies/chips) and you'll be all set! I love to run, but I'm never able to for many reasons. I can't run alone (not even around the block), I don't have anyone to run with (friends, family, my mom is always too busy, etc.)And I know there are other things I can do to stay fit, but I really love to run. Are there any ways to run? (btw, schools out so I can't go to the track)

Hey girl!

Swimming is great exercise, so definitely keep doing those laps in the pool. Jumping rope is great exercise, and it's so easy to do because you can do it inside and by yourself.  Jogging in place and doing workout videos are also great ways to stay in shape. Good luck! x0x0

i love my body( Love it) but im 36 pounds overweight and i want to be healthy so um i want to know the healthy way to losing weight,,, i eat healthy you know wheat bread, stuff like that , so i also want to know how much pounds i should lose a week i heard it was 2 pounds ? is that right so i also make sure that im drinking a ton of water (i love water ) so of my favorite workouts i like swimming , i love volleyball , i just want to be healthy so my questions are um is losing 2 pounds a week the right way to go,any aggressive workouts that are fun at the same time,and what are some other ways i can be healthy? thanks Smile




Hey girlie,

Yep, it's a great success to lose 1-3 pounds each week. 2 should be the target - but if you don't get to that, don't think you're doing something wrong! Either way, losing weight in moderation is really the healthiest way to do it Smile As for workouts, you sound like you have a great plan ahead of you. Swimming, volleyball, kickboxing, jogging, yoga, lunges, squats, biking, hiking, soccer...choose things that will keep you passionate about your workout routine. Map them out on a calendar so you aren't doing the same thing (cardio or strength training) two days in a row, and that way you'll have everything all planned out. And always make sure you're getting enough sleep. At least 8 hours really helps!

OK IM THINKING OF DOING A STRENGTH SESSION + CARDIO SO I DO STRENGTH 3 DAYS TUSEDAY THURSDAY N SATURDAY then cardio MONDAY WEDNESDAY FRIDAY ANd SUNDAY ,what are some ideas for cardio i was thinking of jumping jacks and jogging in place. i dont know what else. i want to have 6 exercises each lasting 10 minutes. now for strength i have planks ,crunches , sit ups , weights , like i said i want six excersizes so i need 2 strength exercises and 4 cardio exercises so what do you think? what are some good songs to do these exercises to and lastly I ALSO WANT TO DO SOMETHING ELSE LIKE INVOLVING MARTIAL ARTS OR MAYBE KICK BOXING? any ideas? Hey girl!

   It's really great that you want to get in shape, but please do not over-do it. Remember- too much of anything is not good.  Even working out just 3-4 days a week is still really great for your body.  Jumping jacks and jogging in place is great, but how about also doing jump rope and taking a jog outside? For strength, any of those ideas are great--plus you could rotate them to avoid your routine becoming boring.  Any up-beat, pop songs make great workout music, and martial arts and kick boxing sound like fun! x0x0

How can I find the perfect sport? I don't want to sign up for stuff that I will hate. I don't like soccer, basketball, football, or track. I am petite and a bit fat 103 lb at 13 years old! I can run pretty fast not really 10 minutes is my mile, I'm pretty flexible (can reach 10 in past my toes) but I can't do a cartwheel I can to a backbend though. I have no hand eye coordination whatsoever and am not strong in any way shape or form. Any ideas for a sport?

   You should totally take a dance or gymnastics class. It sounds like it would be perfect for you. You can build up your flexibility and strength, and it doesn't require any hand-eye coordination. Hope that helps! x0x0

Hey girl,

I'm the same way! The most important thing is developing a routine. The more often you wake up early and exercise, the more used to it your body will get. In the meantime, wake yourself up with your alarm, then play a happy playlist that will get you going in the morning. It works for me!

hey! im really athletic. I really like to exorcise and it makes me feel better about myself. The only thing is that i was skiing on Wed. and I went off a jump and busted my knee. The doctors think that I just strained it, but I can't do any sports for at least a week. do you know any exorcises that don't make you straighten or bend your knee?? Thanks!!

 

Hey girlie, most exercises require leg strength, even if you aren't directly exercising your legs. If the doctor wants you to keep off of it for a bit, that's your safest bet. You'll be better in no time!

KK, so this has alot to do with the article. CERTIAN diets, like Weight Watchers, work. I'm on it and I've lost 6 lbs. in 5 wks. And another way to get moving is if you have a Wii, don't play Mario Cart all flippin' day!!!!!! Play something like Just Dance 2 or Wii Fit to get moving. These are just my tips. MOD MOD MOD I have fibromyalgia, and its a challenge for me to excersise. I get 15 minutes of excersise a day 5 days a week (run 1/2 a mile at 6 mph, walk the other half at 4 mph). I know you are supposed to get like an hour, but for one, I don't have time, and for two, I am physically unable to do any more than I do. Is this okay?

 

Hey girl, I would definitely check with your doctor about this one. I don't know much about fibromyalgia other than it's very painful, so it's hard for me to say, but if you can keep up with the 15 min work outs do it! Everything helps Smile

My family has a history of being overweight and it scares me to think I could become overweight... So my question is should I keep trying to diet or should I just be happy with my body as it is?

 

Hey girl, you should always be happy with the way you are! But, if you want to stay healthy and ate a healthy weight the best thing to do is talk to your doctor. Exercise and eat healthy by following the tips in our Health & Fitness section and you should be set to go Smile I know what you're going through, and I worry about the same thing with my family but if you set your mind to it you should be okay. I'm 11 years old, 4'11 and weigh 107 pounds!!! I know I'm over weight but sometimes I think it's because I go home for luch so if I need an extra snack, well I have a bunch! I am the fattest in the class! everyone is very skinny! I can't run! I'm always last in track! I feel like poo. I just want to be skinny! Is that weird? Hey girl, ok, let me start by saying you aren't overweight according to your BMI, which is on the lower end of the normal range for healthy weight. What you are lacking in, however, is confidence! I think in terms of raising your confidence,  you could try jogging at home (maybe every other day) to practice your times. That way you'll get your endurance up. Don't compare your bod to others and know you're fine the way you are. Believe me when I say everyone's insecure. xoxo

mod mod mod sorry to bother you mod. but i'm 15 years old, 5 foot 5 inches, and 225 lbs, making my bmi 37.5 (a dash from being morbidly obese). i work out 3 times a week, and i can definitely keep up with all of the other girls. i know i'm not unhealthy, but for some reason i have always been at least 100 lbs ahead of everyone else. i'm actually really athletic, and play a lot of sports, so is this just how i am, or is there something seriously wrong with me? thanks for your help.

 

 

Hey girly girl! I totally feel where you're coming from. I've always struggled with my weight too. No matter how much you work out though, it really all comes down to your diet, and what you're eating. And, if you're eating really well and working out, and still can't lose weight, then I'd talk to a doc. In that case, it's possible that you may have a thryoid condition (which makes your metabalism low).

Hey chica. There's all kinds of good breakfast foods. Fruit is always a healthy choice. You can do cereal (some kinds are better for you than others) or you can try oatmeal (it's quick to make in the microwave, and it's tasty). Almonds are pretty good for you because they are classified as a type of nut. And, skateboarding can become a cardio workout if you run and jump on the board for a long period of time!

Hey girlie. It's important to eat dinner! Just try eating veggies and drinking water, too. Don't skip meals but tell your mom that you want to eat healthier for dinner. You can do it!

Another fun fitness tip!
Try getting some sort of dance game! I have Just Dance and Michael Jackson the Experience for the Wii and it's really so much fun that it doesn't seem like a workout! But if you're really getting your whole body into the moves(like I always do), it's great!

there is this guy that wants to go out with me. We met at a camp and he was really nice, but lives about 2 hrs away. But there are two other guys at my school that i reaally like right now. Hey girlie. Babysitting is great as well as helping your parents with chores or maybe helping old neighbors with chores! If it snows near you, you can shovel a neighbor's porch, too!

Hey girlie. It's hard to earn money when you are younger without doing chores or babysitting. But maybe ask your mom if she needs help running errands on the weekends or ask dad if you can organize anything for him for work. Good luck!

if u want a smoothie, try opting for a fruit shake that u made urself. make sure to ask a parent first if they can help u or if u can use the blender. try using delicious fruit combinations to make ur shake. add water, milk ,or 100% juice, and blend. it will make a terrific fruit shake.

MOD MOD MOD.
I am a catcher in fastpitch softball and I am almost 13. I am wondering (and you may not have the answer, that's ok) what kind of sports drink is the best for you? I am drinking powerade right now and that is what brought of this question. I looked on the Nutrition Facts and it says that it has a whopping 14 grams of sugar! Please help! p.s. I am kinda overweight not really but kinda. Thanks!

 

Hey chica! You def wanna keep your energy up while you're playing, but truth be told, the "health" drinks really can be terrible for you! Check out this post from a few days ago. Scary! Make sure you are drinking lots of water--before, during, and after you play. To boost your energy, eat something like pasta or a big sandwich that's got lots of carbs for you to burn off.
