okay im going to turn 14 years old soon and going to highschool and i havent started my period. my mom and i are really close. she took me to the doctor and she chacked me out i havent even started puberty. i am 72 pounds and 4ft 9in and i jst wish i was a little bigger i kno people grow at their own pace but idk. anyway i got an x-ray of my hand to see whar age my body thinks i am(my body shuld say im about 11 cuz 13-14 yr olds have usually started their period) and i got my blood taken out and i was low on a hormone thats supposed to make me grow so they took more blood to make sure and sometime next week ill have another appoitment to see all the results! i am so nervous! can you give me advise of what they might say or any advise for anything! plz plz plz!!!

Hey girlie. You are right--every girl does mature at different times. Some of my best friends did not get their periods until they were in high school! I know it's hard being different, but why try to fit in when you were born to stand out! I'm not sure what they results will be, but you are in good hands and your doctor will be able to help in any way he or she can. Try not to think about it and remember, everything will be okay.

hi im 10 years old and im worried abut my sister started at 7 and my mum started at around 8-9 but im 10 and i havent started yet. im worried that somthing is wrong but i to sared to tal about it. also im scared that it will hurt because my sister had to go to hospital because it hurt so much. i get white stuff in my knickers but i dont know if thats got anything to do with periods. i have been getting it for about a year now but nothing is happening. i also scared that it will happen out of no where. please help!
p.s. i cant go to the doctors oz im to scared.

Hey Girl,

Don't worry every one gets their period at different times. Usually girls get their first period anywhere between 8 an 16. You might get cramps, but they don't hurt too much. Your sister might have had an extreme case. The white stuff in your underwear is just some discharge, and that is usually normal. Your first period might catch you by surprise, but don't worry just keep a pad in your purse or bag in case it happens.

MOD MOD MOD! I'm going to Disney World over spring break and I'm SUPER scared that I'll get it when I'm in the parks. Should I wear a pad around the parks/ tampon in the water parks just in case, or should I just pack one and take a trip to the BR if I feel like somethings going on? Thanks for the help! By the way, I just wanted to thank all the GL girls for being so open about this! Smile

It's not necessary to wear a tampon/pad just in case - what if you DON'T get it and made yourself uncomfy that whole time? Instead, just pack a couple in your backpack (or whatever bag you're carrying around each day). You can even ask your mom (or a trusted travel buddy carrying a bag) to take some as well. Make regular bathroom trips every few hours as needed and try to enjoy your trip. If your period comes, don't panic - you're totally prepared, so just relax and take care of it. The most important thing is that you have a GREAT time in Disney!!! <3

So I have to figure out how to put in a tampon by tomorrow afternoon for my karate class. But when I tried today, it stung when I was trying to get it in!! What should I do? Thank you!!!!!

Hey girlie. You should do it right after you go to the bathroom so there's a little moisture. It will be easier to slide in. Also, make sure you slide it in far enough. It will take a few times to get it right.

OK, u no how it says 2 try tampons when u dont have ur period? Well if u do, wont u get TSS? y not try them when u have ur period. Also, ive had discharge for almost a year now i turned 13 on friday, but is this normal? also, is it normal 2 have light discharge sometimes and light discharge other times? cuz i had reall heavy discharge when i was runninf but sometimes its light. THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Hey girly girl! I'm not sure where you read that, but I would only use tampons when you DO have your period. Otherwise, it'll hurt pretty bad. As for discharge, it's totally normal, in all forms!

P.S. Happy Birthday! Smile

Hi, I was wondering, is it normal for at the beginning of your period to have brown blood/discharge? Because I was supposed to have my period last week and normally its about 4 days late, but this time its only been dark stuff that is light (as in flow) and I don't know exactly what it is. ???

Hey girlie,

Discharge is normal especially if your period is about to come in a few wait and see if your period comes.  I would suggest seeing a doctor if notice you have discharge of irregular colors/smells or missing periods!

MOD MOD *MOD* !! Ruth S. , thank you so much for answering my question !!!! It helped a lot already ! I accidently was testing things out and clicked "report" and I think I just reported you !! I really hope I didn't !!! If I did, it wasn't real so don't tink you didn't give good advice, you did(:
PS- But does shaking your head hard cause brain damage and or concussions? That part of the answer was sort of unclear.

hey girlie!

I did some research and it seems like if your head is "violently shaken" it can cause brain damage or concussions, but I think the doctors are mostly referring to traumatic accidents.  However, my advice is to break the habit because you never know what could happen if you keep shaking your head consistently for long periods of time!  It could cause damage, and I definitely want you to be safe rather than sorry.  I'm glad you're trying out some of those suggestions, and I hope you'll really enjoy doing them! Don't worry, you didn't "report" the comment Smile

i get discharge and sometimes it dries and sticks to my hair down there or to my skin then it hurts to take my underwear down. is there anything i can do to help?

Hey girl,

Try using a panty liner if you have a lot of discharge.  You can change the panty liner as often as needed!
