Hey girl. I would just ask politely, explain the problem, and I'm sure she'll be understanding. Just bite the bullet and ask. xx

Hey mod I was wondering if you could tell me if I am close to my period I know you cant tell me exactly but could you tell me if I am at least possibly close. so I am 10 11 on aug 13 and I have had discharge for about 8-9 months and when it dries or when it comes out I am not sure it is light yellow. I amso have clear is it normal that I have different colors. but I also need advice on how to ask my mom to use a pantyliner so please help I also have gotten worse allergies and diarrhea also very short but painful cramps and mood swings so do you think I would start my period soon? sorry this is so long thanks mods

Hey girl! Sorry, but I have no clue when your period will come! You seem to have some of the signs, but if your symptoms become too painful, you should see a doctor. Good luck! xx

Hey guys!
I just wanted to share some advice with y'all ok so if ur familiar with discharge, most people's first period is basically like that except with blood instead of the clear/white fluid. What I like to use is the U by Kotex slender regular tampons; never use more protection than what u need when it come to tampons. For pads I like the U by Kotex CleanWear regular pads. I only wear these at night because I don't like wearing a tampon at night incase because I'm afraid to. I also wear U by Kotex pantiliners before I start my period and after it ends just to catch any bloody discharge. I seriously recomend the Always wipes. This helps keep u fresh and clean and fights odor. They come in to go packs; perfect for ur purse. Also I love midol for cramps, etc. cuz it helps all the symptoms and is made for ur period. I'm inlove with Kotex products I will never stop using them! You can order them online too! So informational too!

I was gonna go out with my crush today, (he invited me to a movie) but I totally forgot that my mom scheduled a gyno appointment for me today, because we think I might have a yeast infection. What do they do at those kind of appointments? I'm scared, I heard they stick something "up there" and it hurts. Is that true???!?

Hey girl, it's not too bad. Your doc is gentle and gives you a heads up of what's going on. Not all exams are physical either: the first time I went, we just talked thing out. Take a deep breath and rest assured: it'll be just fine!

I'm getting a little worried. I think I might have a yeast infection. I've had discharge for like 2 years but lately it's been smelling weird, and it looks yellow. Also I'm really itchy down there. Does it sound like a yeast infection? But I'm too scared to tell my mom. I have a male doctor. What will they do to check if I do have an infection?

Hey! your doctor will have to examine you to see if you're really infected. If you feel uncomfortable with that you can talk to your doctor about having a female doctor step in to examine you. the only way to really feel reassured is to talk to your doctor about all of these questions Smile To be honest, that's what we mods just have to tell you guys when you come to us with any health concerns. You may very well be fine, but since we're not doctors and we can't even see you face to face, it's not for us to tell you what's fine and what isn't. You know your body. Trust your instincts and talk to your doc!

I got my period for the first time last December. I normally get it every twenty days, but it's been about thirty since my last one. I've used up a whole bunch of my panty liners, because I'm scared Aunt Flow'll stop by while I'm not paying attention, and I'll bleed through my clothes. I've been having horrible cramps, and a lot of discharge for like a week, but my period still won't come. Should I be worried?

Hey girl!

Check out our page to find out tons of information on your period!

And if you still can't find the answer to your question, ask your mom, a trusted adult, or give your doc a ring. Better to ask someone then to continue wondering if everything is OK down there!

okay so I know I comment a lot but I love yalls advice!!! Okay so I hit 100 pounds!!(yay) and idk why but i've been feelin kinda moody lately and it's really annoying me!!! I also have been like achy and crampy. What's goin on??? My mom just says "you're a growing girl" once I tol her but idk what she was implying. Does she mean like my period! Anyway, thanks for ur great advice(:

Hey babe,

Your mom's actually very right, your weight fluctuates as you grow.  Your body just has a changing metabolism and generally changes as your weight distributes across your body too.

MOd mod mod mod!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay so my friend wears tampons everyday! Even the days she's not on her period! And it's the jumbo ones too! I tried to tell her it's bad and she just waved me off. And what's even worse is she doesn't change them all day! I'm scared for her! How do I get thru to her???? Thanks mod!!

Hey girl,

Yikes! You're right that it's not good for your pal -- not changing a tampon on your period can lead to toxic shock syndrome, and there's no point in wearing a tampon when you're not bleeding! She may be wearing them because she's embarrassed about discharge, so encourage her to speak with your school nurse, counselor, doctor or a parent. Once she accepts why she's doing it, she can solve the problem with other solutions like pantiliners that are less dangerous!

I m 11 and i ain't got my period yet and the most annoying thing is that i got all the signs plus my stomach cramps up bad and i discharge a ton daily....
I m bored of not getting my period...

Hey Chica,

Even if you have the signs of your period, it could still be a while before you get it. As long as your prepared for it, just concentrate on being yourself and not worrying so much about when you'll get it.

MOD MOD MOD!!!!!! I'm 11 and I wear a 36a and i have headaches and cramps.... I think i'm about to have my period.
But I'm really scared about it and NEVER want to use tampons...
Is your period really that bad? And do tampons hurt that much?

Your periods not that bad. Just a bit of a nuisance. If all us girls can survive it so can you Smile as for tampons theyre my favorite things EVER. Once you get used to applying them, they dont hurt at all. So dont stress. Youll be fine Smile xoxo kerra

MOD! MOD! MOD! Every time I have my period, I wear a pad (like normal), but I'm always feeling like I am bleeding through. I go to the restroom and check, but nothing is there. How can I stop this feeling!!

Hey girl, you are not alone in feeling comfortable on your period. Every girl feels that even if she were to wear 3 pads, she'd still feel like she was bleeding through all of them. Just be sure you have extra pads with you just in case. Hope this helps!! Smile Smile

Hey if you have any questions you could ask me, I wouldn't mind. I'm kind of new on this website, and I haven't gotten my period yet, but I expect it'll come soon. I've done quite a bit of research on it and I've read plenty of first period stories to get myself more comfortable with the subject.
And... I usually give pretty good advice. Well, according to yahoo answers, anyway.

okay so this is kinda embarrassing & gross (to me at least)....okay so i recently started seeing brown in my underwear and when i wipe its red what does this mean?! and if its the start of my period the doctor said i wouldnt get it till im 12 and a half and im barely turning 11 this week. i just dont get it!! thanks anyway

Hey chica,

The doctor can give you an idea of when your period will come, but his word isn't certain on this one - he can't really predict it! This definitely sounds like the beginnings of your first period, so try to accept that your doc was a liiittle off in his prediction. And be sure you're prepared with pads since you know it's coming Smile

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD! Ok so I've had my period 3 times and I play sports so I wanted to try a tampon. I'm kind of nervous to ask my mom because I can't find a time to ask her. Also, whats a good kind to try? Oh yeah and lastly (I know this is a stupid question but...) does the tampon go into the same place you um... pee? Please answer Smile

Hey babe,

Not stupid at all Smile The first thing you'll want to do is definitely go to the bathroom, shut the door, and grab a lil makeup mirror. Sit down on the toilet and just take a look "down there" - I know it sounds silly, but you gotta be familiar and comfortable with your own bod before you start! It'll make it SO much easier. So take a look - where you put the tampon is below the hole that you pee out of (the one you use to pee is super small, a tampon would never fit haha) and above where you have bowel movements (I know, super gross - sorry chica). Then, use our tips here: - while remembering to relax!

My period sometimes lasts for 4 days and is a new time every month(only had it for 6 months) and gets soo heavy and messy but I never get cramps..Why is that?

Hey there!

Early on, your period will be very irregular.  It's completely normal for it to last different lengths of time or come at different times of the month.  As far as cramps, they're different for each girl.  One girl may get very bad cramps while you barely even feel them.

If you're still unsure, take a look at this link for more information.

I am worried about getting my period, but I don't have my Mom to talk to and I don't feel comfortable talking to my sister because we aren't very close and she's, well, ALWAYS snappy and grumpy. What should I do!!????

Hey girly,

Try to find someone older that you trust. Maybe an aunt or a friend who is a little older, or a teacher. They will be happy to talk to  you.

MOD MOD MOD!!!! Ok, this is urgent!!! OK so I am getting my blood drawn for the first time (I'm 12, btw) because high cholesterol runs in my family. I am really nervous that it's going to hurt and I am freaking out about if I have high cholesterol or not. And also I don't really exercise that much so I'm worried about that too. PLEASE HELP! It's tomorrow morning please answer soon! What can I do to not be as nervous??

Dont stress out! IF you keep freaking you wont get any less nervous. However if you breathe and just calm down a bit youll be fine. Just think that its not going to kill you and youll be in the safe hands of a doctor so youll be perfectly fine. Any pain will be temporary and will be over soon. Also as for your cholesterol, its not he end of the world if its high. You just need to fix things if it is. Youll be perfectly fine. Promise. xoxo kerra

Hey girl,

MOD is short for moderator, the people who check out all the wonderful comments that are posted! And periods are different for everyone, so it could be a lot or a little. Just remember to keep heavy pads with you so you're always prepared for that first time! x0x0

This is kinda embarrassing, but why do you get pains and cramps during your period?

Hey girl. Your uterus is getting rid of its lining, so your body is going to work at pushing waste out. That causes pain.

is there any way to get my period faster? i havent had it yet, but i want to, so i can get over telling my mom, because i have a feeling it will only get more and more awkward as i get older

Hey girly,

You period comes when your body wants it to come, so there's no way to speed that process up. As for telling your mom, she went through it and she knows you'll go through it too, so it shouldn't be awkward at all. She can definitely help you with all your period-related questions. x0x0

Well I recently got my period and I only had it for 3 days then 1 1/2 weeks later I got it again but it was only for 2 days and then 2 days after that I got it again is this Normal?

Hey girlie,

It's annoying, but it's actually totally normal for our periods to be irregular - especially for a little while when they first start. Try to be patient with it! And just be prepared with a pad in your purse so you're ready whenever, wherever...just in case Smile

Hey girl, by just getting her alone and being open with her about it. She'll appreciate your frankness and trust me, it's really no big deal to be. Periods are part of growing up and she knows and gets them. After all, she goes through them too.

It's tough to say when your period's coming because everyone gets it at a different time, but those symptoms do sound like your body's ready for it. Just remember- carry tampons or pads with you all the time so you're prepared when it comes! x0x0

Mod mod mod! My cousin is one year older than me and she got her period last year when we were on our family vacation. I just got back from my vacation and I didn't have it! I had discharge and I have been having discharge since feb. I had/have really bad cramps and I even threw up when we were on vacation. I have hair down there like a lot and I have had boobs for two years. It's really annoying getting your hopes up then never getting your period. Is it coming soon or in a bunch of time? Thank you for helping!

Hey babe! Just because your cousin got her doesn't mean you'll get yours. And once you have your period, you're going to wish you didn't, believe me! Everyone is different, it will come when your body is ready. You have all the warning signs, but there is no exact schedule of when it will come. Don't worry girlie, it will be here sooner than you think. xoxo

by maki lover on 5/15/2011 6:33:20 PM

I am 14 years old and I just got my first period yesterday. I noticed a half hour after I got home from school. And just my luck, after I told my mom, she said we ran out of pads so I had to use toilet paper instead! I soaked through 2 pairs of underwear and I probably wasted a full roll of toilet paper. And it's still really heavy today. I feel like I lost a 10 cups of blood! No matter what I do, it just keeps getting heavier and heavier. Am I going to have to wear 5 pads a day!? Why is my period so heavy and messy? I thought your first period was supposed to be light, just a few drops of blood. Also, it's not even red, it's sort of like a brownish, blackish color. Can you please tell me what's going on?

Hey chica. Don't stress! Your first period isn't necessarily light so don't think that your case is uncommon at all. Check out this link to learn more information about dealing with a heavy period But just remember, the heaviness, discoloration, and other symptoms are NORMAL! So don't freak out!

i think i mite of gotten my period the other day. cuz i saw 2 red spots it my underwear, but i havent seen anymore in a while

Hey girlie!! The best thing to do in this situation is to just hang tight and keep an eye out for any more signs of blood. If you start feeling crampy, take a bathroom break to check how everything is going down there. Now would be a good time to stock up on pads and tampons so you have some on hand when you need them! Good luck!

Hey girlie -- you should speak with you mother or doctor, just to be 100% sure.

My period hasn' come yet and i am 12, maturing like a 13 year-old. ive had allthe symtoms of puberty. I've had discharge for two years now and monster cramps but it hasn't came. what do I do?

by Louie21 on 4/25/2011 5:27:23 AM

Its been two years since i got all that stuff like discharge, cramps, acne, cramps, breast buds, wider hips and more cramps but no period! Am i un normal?

by Louie21 on 4/25/2011 5:14:02 AM

Have you started your period and if so when? I have not and I have like all these signs like dicharge, cramps, headaches, hair growing, mood swings, some development and other stuff that comes with puberty so yah I have like all the signs and still no period so I was wondering when you got yours and how long you have had it(if you have it) and any advice you might have would be great thanks Luv, Peyton

hey girl,

If you are seeing all the signs, you will probably be getting it soon.  Don't worry, I believe your body is on track and you just have to be patient.  Carry pads or tampons around with you just in case.  You can always wear a pantiliner too.  The first time shouldn't be so heavy, so just be prepared and you'll have nothing to worry about!

Im 13 im 5'1 and im 73 lbs i have signs of my period like: discharge(for about 1 1/2 years),spotting(2days) cramps(3 weeks) hair(2 years maybe) and some development (30A cup)and mood swings like crazy and just about any other signs that I havent mentioned. I was wondering when you started and how your first experience was like and also I was wondering when I was going to start and also my mom started when she was 14 Thanks Smile
luv, Peyton

Hey girl, I got my first period at 13; it was a bit of a surprise when it first came, but I found it was really no big deal. As for when you'll get yours, there's no exact science. It'll surprise you, which is why it's so important you have a pad on you at school now just in case. Be prepared.

Hey everyone who has tampon troubles!
Tampons aren't so bad.
several months ago i got my period. I decided pads had to end once i was skiing and i got it.
I had no pads availiable and i was afraid to use the free tampons the resort had avaliable.
When i got home i tried a tampon,
it was scary because my mom wasn't there and i had tried it before and it hurt!
But trust me,
everyone should try to get in the habit of tampons (unless you perfer pads) but my aunt always uses pads and I dont see how she does it.
I think tampons are GREAT! Laughing they feel so much more clean and they are easier to slip into your pocket than a pad. Plus it helps with sports and swimming!

If you need any advice on friend troubles to periods come 2 me! I help tons of people (xpecially my 11yr old sister's friends! ) (ugh do 5th graders ever have steady friendships? these 2 girls keep fighting and making up every day, i cant keep up! LOL)

MOD MOD MOD!!! My period is always one week early (from the 28 days thing). Is this normal?? Because it always comes every 3 weeks so its basically on a schedule. Just not a normal schedule. And, my period always lasts for 6-7 days. This is really bad because that means that 1 out of 3 weeks, i am on my period. Please help!! I am flipping out! i am not that close to my mom and its soooooo embarassing to talk to her about this kind of stuff!

Hey girlie. When you are younger, it is completely normal for your period to be irregular. As you get older, it will stay with a more set schedule. If it continues to stay irregular, then you can make an appointment with your doctor. I know it might seem awkward to talk to your mom at first, but she is a girl, too, so she understands about periods! I promise--talk to her about it!

Anything that you are unprepared for can be scary-- especially your first period. The best way to avoid this is to know your stuff and be prepared before it happens. Go to the store with mom or another tursted older female and get a box pads. Learn how to put one on so when the time comes it won't be so scary. Basically a pad is big sticker for your underwear. Be prepared just in case and maybe keep a pad in your locker. If you know how to use one before the real time comes, you feel more at ease when your period arrives.

okay im going to turn 14 years old soon and going to highschool and i havent started my period. my mom and i are really close. she took me to the doctor and she chacked me out i havent even started puberty. i am 72 pounds and 4ft 9in and i jst wish i was a little bigger i kno people grow at their own pace but idk. anyway i got an x-ray of my hand to see whar age my body thinks i am(my body shuld say im about 11 cuz 13-14 yr olds have usually started their period) and i got my blood taken out and i was low on a hormone thats supposed to make me grow so they took more blood to make sure and sometime next week ill have another appoitment to see all the results! i am so nervous! can you give me advise of what they might say or any advise for anything! plz plz plz!!!

Hey girlie. You are right--every girl does mature at different times. Some of my best friends did not get their periods until they were in high school! I know it's hard being different, but why try to fit in when you were born to stand out! I'm not sure what they results will be, but you are in good hands and your doctor will be able to help in any way he or she can. Try not to think about it and remember, everything will be okay.

hi im 10 years old and im worried abut my sister started at 7 and my mum started at around 8-9 but im 10 and i havent started yet. im worried that somthing is wrong but i to sared to tal about it. also im scared that it will hurt because my sister had to go to hospital because it hurt so much. i get white stuff in my knickers but i dont know if thats got anything to do with periods. i have been getting it for about a year now but nothing is happening. i also scared that it will happen out of no where. please help!
p.s. i cant go to the doctors oz im to scared.

Hey Girl,

Don't worry every one gets their period at different times. Usually girls get their first period anywhere between 8 an 16. You might get cramps, but they don't hurt too much. Your sister might have had an extreme case. The white stuff in your underwear is just some discharge, and that is usually normal. Your first period might catch you by surprise, but don't worry just keep a pad in your purse or bag in case it happens.

MOD MOD MOD! I'm going to Disney World over spring break and I'm SUPER scared that I'll get it when I'm in the parks. Should I wear a pad around the parks/ tampon in the water parks just in case, or should I just pack one and take a trip to the BR if I feel like somethings going on? Thanks for the help! By the way, I just wanted to thank all the GL girls for being so open about this! Smile

It's not necessary to wear a tampon/pad just in case - what if you DON'T get it and made yourself uncomfy that whole time? Instead, just pack a couple in your backpack (or whatever bag you're carrying around each day). You can even ask your mom (or a trusted travel buddy carrying a bag) to take some as well. Make regular bathroom trips every few hours as needed and try to enjoy your trip. If your period comes, don't panic - you're totally prepared, so just relax and take care of it. The most important thing is that you have a GREAT time in Disney!!! <3

So I have to figure out how to put in a tampon by tomorrow afternoon for my karate class. But when I tried today, it stung when I was trying to get it in!! What should I do? Thank you!!!!!

Hey girlie. You should do it right after you go to the bathroom so there's a little moisture. It will be easier to slide in. Also, make sure you slide it in far enough. It will take a few times to get it right.

OK, u no how it says 2 try tampons when u dont have ur period? Well if u do, wont u get TSS? y not try them when u have ur period. Also, ive had discharge for almost a year now i turned 13 on friday, but is this normal? also, is it normal 2 have light discharge sometimes and light discharge other times? cuz i had reall heavy discharge when i was runninf but sometimes its light. THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Hey girly girl! I'm not sure where you read that, but I would only use tampons when you DO have your period. Otherwise, it'll hurt pretty bad. As for discharge, it's totally normal, in all forms!

P.S. Happy Birthday! Smile

Hi, I was wondering, is it normal for at the beginning of your period to have brown blood/discharge? Because I was supposed to have my period last week and normally its about 4 days late, but this time its only been dark stuff that is light (as in flow) and I don't know exactly what it is. ???

Hey girlie,

Discharge is normal especially if your period is about to come in a few wait and see if your period comes.  I would suggest seeing a doctor if notice you have discharge of irregular colors/smells or missing periods!

MOD MOD *MOD* !! Ruth S. , thank you so much for answering my question !!!! It helped a lot already ! I accidently was testing things out and clicked "report" and I think I just reported you !! I really hope I didn't !!! If I did, it wasn't real so don't tink you didn't give good advice, you did(:
PS- But does shaking your head hard cause brain damage and or concussions? That part of the answer was sort of unclear.

hey girlie!

I did some research and it seems like if your head is "violently shaken" it can cause brain damage or concussions, but I think the doctors are mostly referring to traumatic accidents.  However, my advice is to break the habit because you never know what could happen if you keep shaking your head consistently for long periods of time!  It could cause damage, and I definitely want you to be safe rather than sorry.  I'm glad you're trying out some of those suggestions, and I hope you'll really enjoy doing them! Don't worry, you didn't "report" the comment Smile

i get discharge and sometimes it dries and sticks to my hair down there or to my skin then it hurts to take my underwear down. is there anything i can do to help?

Hey girl,

Try using a panty liner if you have a lot of discharge.  You can change the panty liner as often as needed!

MOD MOD *MOD* !!!!! I shake my head pretty hard when I want to get rid of unwanted thoughts. It feels numb afterwards but I can't stop!! It is like a bad habit. I want to know if it is bad and causes concussions or any major or minor brain damage ????
Also, if I post a question or comment, how do I know if it shows up or somebody replied to it? Haha, sorry, I'm a newbie to the world of Girls Life web-style(:

Hey girl,

Welcome to and glad you joined us! Smile  You can check back on the article where you posted your comment, and we will be working on responding as soon as possible.  In regards to your other questions, you never know how that habit can affect you, so I would just be careful and try to break the habit.  Try to replace that habit by doing something else when you have unwanted shaking your hands..or something totally different like writing in a journal, scribbling, painting, or going for a jog!

I got my period last september and I've gotten it about three times since. The last one ended a month before the middle of spring break and I'm terrified I'm gonna get it during spring break. I'm going to the beach and a bunch of water park and I haven't used tampons yet except those OP ones, but they slip. Do you suggest any brands my periodd is heavy and usually runs a week, but I wan't something skinny and easy to put in. Thanks :]

Mod... uhh it says give tampons a try when you're not on your period, thats wrong isn't it??

Hey girl,

Yes, good catch! I'm sure the author probably means either:

- One afternoon when you aren't busy (just a typo), or...

- Take a couple sample tampons out of the wrapper and "practice" holding them properly, pushing the applicator tube, etc. but not actually putting them inside.

But you're right, it could be pretty painful to use a tampon while you aren't on your period. I wouldn't do it!

by bubblesHB on 4/5/2011 12:57:51 AM

Whenever I get my period,I start to throw up! Do I have a stomach virus or something?

Not at all! That's probably your bod's reaction to cramps. If they're feeling really intense, try using an over-the-counter med like Midol, Pamprin, or normal Tylenol to lessen the pain. Also, remember to hydrate! If you're still getting sick each month after trying these things, try asking your doc just to see if he/she has any professional advice.

i really dont thing getting a period is as bad as some girls think it is. i mean they shouldnt fell sad about it they should feel happy that they are growing up from being a girl to a young woman. it means there growing up and can possibly even fell more mature. Laughing

every time i check to see what i did on my pad
i see brownish red is that a infection

MOD MOD MOD: All my friends and even people who aren't my friends have boyfriends. Even girls that I personally don't think are that great have boyfriends. I'm the only one in my whole grade that's never had a boyfriend and I'm so embarrased about it. When I go on facebook everybodies relationships are shoved in my face and I feel depressed. I feel like such a looser, whats wrong with me?!?

Hey girlie,

Don't feel rushed to get a boyfriend--trust me, boys will definitely ask you out as you get older.  Use this time to get to know yourself...your hobbies, your likes and dislikes...and learn to feel comfortable and confident in your own skin!   There is nothing wrong with you, so don't feel pressured be in a relationship.

Hey girlie -- have you tried the "I-Don't-Talk-About-Your-(Fill in Blank)" approach? Wen things are reversed, people usually realize just how much something hurts, especially when the shoe is placed on the other foot. Nonetheless, be proud of your body! In the end, confidence is what wins over any situation ;)

I am really confused! this iz really embarrassing...plz help!

hey! yeah i don't really know what your mom is talking about... tampons are fine to use and I think more comfy than pads. maybe if you explain that it's all about being more comfy when you work out she'll understand. good luck!

Mod! Um when I open a new pad it's all crackily and loud and I'm afraid people can hear me open a new one at school and since I'm in fifth grade I'm one of the only people with my period and it's kind if embarassing. Have you ever had this problem and can you hear it? Is there a way to make it not so loud?

Hey girl, I used to be super conscious about that too: thankfully I realized that no one really noticed. All the same, I found it helped to remove the wrapper and peel slowly. It minimizes the noise.

Mod mOd mOd!!
Ok, so i ended my period like the end of february and haven't had it all this month (march). Is that weird?

Hey girl! Your period is supposedly going to be every 28 days or 4 weeks, but many girls don't have an exact schedule as to when they're going to start. Some start early and some can start way late. It may take girls years to  get their bod on a reg period schedule, so you have nothing to worry about!

Over the summer, I always go swimmingat Water World (this huge water park) like every week and I havent gone swimming with my period yet but I'm afraid my mom won't buy me tampons because she's like really protective and stuff and you can't swim with pads. How can I bring it up that I need tampons for summer? Should I say something like what would I do when I go swimming this summer? Or somthing.. please help!!! ThanksSmile

Hey girlie. Yep, that's exactly what you do. Ask her about what to do when you go swimming. If she doesn't bring up the idea of tampons, then you should. Good luck!

OK, I have sort of a problem. I haven't gotten my period yet, and I'm worried what to do if it comes at school. At my school, you can't go to the bathroom at anytime. You have to go at recess. Any other time of day, you can't go. I don't want to be sitting in my desk in the morning bleeding through my pants!! What do I do? Thanks! SmileSmileSmile

Hey chica. Teachers can't forbid girls to go to the restroom. If they say no, you can say that it's an emergency and you have to go. The first time you get it shouldn't be too heavy though. You can wear pantyliners if you want extra protection for when you first get it.
