First Period Prep



What are some signs that I’m going to start my period? I’m 12 years old and still have not started. Can you give me some clues to go by?
 
Wouldn’t it be great to be able to circle a date on the calendar and know that’s when you’re getting your period? Even when you do start getting it monthly, the date may be difficult to guess each month, as it takes awhile for your bod to get on a sched’.
 
Unfortunately, there aren’t a ton of signs for your first period. There are ways to tell that your body is maturing, which means you’re getting close to puberty, such as breast growth, public hair and acne. Although it’s also possible to see these body changes after your first period.
 
The typical “period” signs may not show up before your first one. Typically, before periods, girls might have bloating, cramping, headaches, mood swings, acne breakouts, etc. But you may not have any of that before your first period.
 
Doctor Corina Tennant-Moore, who is an OBGYN at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, suggests paying attention to any spotting, but agrees that you may not see it coming. Best to be prepared with pads and/or tampons at home, and you can carry one with ya, just in case.

Hey girlie,

All of those are signs that you're moving through puberty normally, but the cramps especially could be a major sign that your first period is CLOSE. Stay prepared with a pad at home/in your purse if you go out, just in case! It's not a guarantee, but it sounds pretty likely Smile

    It kinda depends. If it's your first period, you'll probably know because you'll start feeling something down there that you haven't really felt before. If you're wearing a tampon, you probably won't feel it because the tampon soaks everything up. Hope that helps! x0x0

I have had discharge for around 2 years now.
I have also had REALLY bad cramps for around a year.
I'm oversensitive ( as in I think they are mood swings )
I weigh much more than my friends, but I still look O.K I guess
This has been happening for a longgg time and I'm only 11. I don't know if it's natural or Sister Flo ( Haha Finding Nemo )is already on her way to pubic town. Please help me out and tell me if it is or not!! Thanks!




Hey girlie. You're along the path to getting it, but no one can tell you for sure when you're going to get it. You just have to be prepared for it. So keep a pad and tampon with you as much as possible.

Hey girlie. Doctors can make estimates, but they can't tell you exactly when you'll get it. You will get it when you get it! So, be ready!

Hey girlie! Don't be so upset. You will get yours. You just have to give it time. I know it's hard to wait while all the rest of your friends have it, but after you have it for a few years you will wish you didn't have it. It's a lot to take care of! Don't worry though girl, it will come. It can come at any time, so be prepared!

Hey girl, I don't know about around the corner but it's coming soon. Be prepared with pads just in case. No one knows when it'll come, but it's better safe than sorry when it does!

Hey girlie! Sometimes you will get some spotting before your period that lasts for about a day, but don't worry cause it's totally normal. It probably does mean that your period is coming soon so make sure you always keep either a pad or a tampon with you at all times.

hey chica! this is a tough situation! why not ask your dad about it? tell him you're not getting any help from your step mom and you're concerned. it may sound embarrassing, but trust me, he knows more about periods and getting the supplies than you'd think! if none of that works, next time you're at wal mart or somewhere just get some maxi pads and stick them in the cart that way you'll have someone for when you start!

But a few months ago I saw an orange spot, but me and my mom think it might just be a different symptom,not the real thing, especially because it didn't continue happening. Hey girl, I'm not a medical expert, so I can't say for sure.  If it lasted for more than one day, and it came again, it's probably your period.  I would consider talking to your doc or an adult you trust for more guidance.  xoxo

So clues are the mood swings. when i started 4 months ago i was totaly wack, i used the bathroom WAY to much and was very cramped in my lower area and i was totaly freaked! At first ot doesnt look like its your period it looks like a whole lot of black junk in your underwear. I was freaked and didnt tell my mom untill the next day and i had already gone through 4 pairs of underwear and some red spots on my bed covers. So as soon as you see it tell someone you trust.

Mod, I got my first period today. Eek. Before I got my period, I had a little breakout of acne on my nose . After my period, will the breakout go away? Do you always do that around your period in your teen years? Also, my period was really heavy. Does the heaviness of your period vary from month to month? Thank you! Smile

MODMODMOD ok so ive had my period for almost a year(i think like 11 months) and i usually get it every other month. is that normal?? also, i got it this month on a firday, and then it was normal, but on saturday and sunday it was so heavy it bled through a super sized tampon in 2 hours!! it was like that today too until about noon. then when i got home at330 it was like way to early to change it! but i did anyway, and now its too early to change it even though its been 4 horus!! is it bad that my period was that heavy before and also that is changed so quickly?? 




Hey girlie, it's normal for your period to be irregular in the first year. If it doesn't regulate itself in the next year you should see a doctor about it. It's also fine that your period was heavy, but now it's not. Sometimes the heavy part of it doesn't last very long.

Hey girl!  It's hard for me to say for sure exactly what that was.  It could be your period, especially if it keeps up for the next few days.  It could also be "spotting," which happens for some girls before they get their first period.  I encourage you to talk with an adult if you have more concerns or questions.  xoxo

I don't think there's anything wrong because a lot of girls are irregular at first, and I guess you didn't really get your period the first time. However, you could always ask your mom or bring it up to your doctor at your check-up, just in case.

MOD MOD MOD! I didn't get my first period too long ago, I've only had two but the first two were exactly 28 days apart and started on the same day! And then on the day I would've started I didn't. It's been a week! I was pretty stressed and sick before hand. Could this have anything to do with it? P.s. Are there any ways to determine PMS so I can try and guess when my period is on it's way?

 

 

Hey chickadee! Stress can totally mess with your cycle, as can lots of other factors... like how active you are and what you're eating. If you're not sexually active though, I wouldn't worry. It's normal for periods to be irregular at the beginning. As for determining PMS... some girls get cramps before their periods, others have lower back pain, feel floated, or have tender boobs.

Hey girl, it should last about a week usually. When you first get your period, your cycle may be a bit irregular, but you should usually get it once a month, hence the name monthly.

i have pubic hair way down low, so you can't see it. it's dark though. my boobs are big for my grade. i have dark hair but blonde eyebrows, so is that going to change anything? i get discharge every day in my panties. and my pit hair isn't dark. my leg hair is light, but grows a ton. i'm real confused. when will i get my period?

So in the past week and a half, my stomach and lower stomach have like kind of poofed out, and they are almost round and it is really weird,and it makes me look kind of fat, but its not the kind of fat you can pinch..... MOD! ok when i go pee it's yellow but when i wipe it's red! so i brought a few pads with me just in case....and there was dark red stuff all over my under wear but when i go the bathroom My pee is normal. HELP!

MOD MOD mOD MOD!!! ok so i hav a few questions... is vaginal pain a sign of your period? I have these weird shootings of pain in my vagina. Also is pooping more a sign of your period? I have been going #2 a LOT more than usual and it is kinda watery too. AHHH help please!!

 

 

Hey chica! Vaginal pain might mean an infection. Usually, period pain is near your pelvis, above your vagina. As for pooping more, I don't think that's a sign of your period. I would make an appointment with the doc so that everything can be straightened out. If it is an infection, the doc can give you something to make it better really quickly. I hope you feel better girl Smile

at my school we have uniforms and we have to wear white pants so when my gals r on their periods everytime they stand up we ask each other pb witch is kind of like us saying im on my period is there anything on my butt. Lol

When i first got my period, I was with my aunt and my cousins at the movies on the weekend and when i was at the movies I needed to pee and i was holding it and then the movie finished and when i got home i went and played musical chairs like a little kid with my Little cousins and then i have just remembered i had to pee and so i went to the restroom and i saw that my underwear where stained with blood and im all "omg i got my period" and then i went and told my aunt and she gave me a pad but the worst part of it was that My pants were stained and i was acturally in public at the movies with blood on the back of my pants but its a good thing it wasnt on a school day. I was 11 when i got it and now im 12!!

I started mine when i was 10 it was the worst thing ever, and i still hate it. I have a question, so when i run i get these awful cramps and they feel like period cramps, but it isnt my period. Then 10 minutes later its gone then i start to shake. Why is that???

Nope! Some girls are just blessed with good skin, so make sure you take care of it and wash it every morning and night! As for your period, it will come eventually. Tons of girls don't get it until they are much farther in their teen years, so no worries!
