Mod Mod Mod!
my best Friend invited me and her 3 other friends to go hang out in the down town area tomorrow but both my parents are saying they don't think it's a good idea. I'm 12 and in 7th grade but I'm responsible. I really want to go but i have no idea how to convince my parents. They're hard to convince but I would do ANYTHING to go and i even said i would text my mom about every 10 minutes to make sure im ok. Our town isn't small but it's really not big and the the down town area is really close to my school. Everyone goes there, even some 6th graders but my parents are worried ill get hurt. HELP!!!

Hey girlie,

The only thing you can do is tell mom and dad that you understand them being concerned, but you have proven that you're responsible and promise to keep them in the loop about your whereabouts whenever they want to be informed. Tell them you're not trying to get away with anything or go crazy downtown - you just want to spend time with and bond with your besties. They might not let you, but it's worth trying your hardest. And I'm sure your BFFs won't hold it against you. It's mom and dad's decision if you end up not going, not yours <3

MODMODMODMODMOD!
Hi! This year, I know NO one in my classes, and since Im in 8th grade, everyone knows everyone, and all the people in my classes are REALLY cliquey. My crush and BFF and friends were in my classes last year, but this year.... not so much. I'm having trouble focusing in classes, and school is no longer fun. Any advice?

Hey girlie,

You gotta roll with the punches and not let these circumstances totally ruin school for you. Sure it might be a lil more difficult since your besties aren't right by your side, but try to see it as a challenge instead of a defeat: each day, do one thing that helps you get to know your classmates better. It's kind of nice not to have your BFFs around to depend on because it forces you to reach out and make connections with people we wouldn't normally even notice! So sit next to someone new tomorrow, chat up your neighbor about the homework assignment, don't just wait around for someone to pick you when you get into groups for a project/classwork, etc. Try to be more out-going than you actually  are - and you'll help yourself make some serious social progress Smile

MOD!!
there's a topic that always comes up at my school about cheating and i was wondering what the truth is since i def dont want to cheat and wouldnt want to do it by accident. say that if, for example, you go take an english test period 2 then go to period 3 and everyone is talking about it and wondering about it and say they want to know whats on it. i know that its cheating to say "oh theres a multiple choice section, 2 open ended, and a matching and the questions are 'blah blah blah'" and so on. but is it cheating to look at a review sheet that was given to everyone and say "you need to know this, this, this, and this, but dont worry about this" or to say "oh i thought it was really easy/hard/long etc."????? thankssssss

Hey girl,

If everyone in your class has taken the test and there is no one left to make up the test later, talking about it afterwards is not a crime - try not to share specific answers, but chatting about how hard you thought a question/section was is totally fine. And if you use a review sheet that was given to you by the teacher and completed on your own (or with a partner if your teacher has OK'd it), then you're in the clear. If you're ever worried about any behavior possibly being cheating, don't be afraid to ask your teacher in advance. It's better to be safe than sorry!

MOD MOD MOD!
so today in class my friend asks me to do something for her project and if i didnt do it, she wouldn't talk to me. i didnt do it because she should be able to do it herself, but she just makes me do alot of stuff for her and i was getting so sick of it. i tried talking to her after class but she just ignored me and walked alone to the next class. Frown what should i do next time?? thanks

Hey girlie,

That is totally a form of bullying - and you do not deserve someone to treat you like that! I know she's your friend and this sounds cliche to say, but real friends would never use you in order to get ahead. Sure friends ask for favors now and then, but having someone else do your homework shows a lack of integrity - and it also shows a lack of respect for you. Personally, I wouldn't stand for that treatment. I would try talking to her after some time passes and just tell her that you'd love to still be her friend but you have to put your foot down - you're your own person, not her servant. Be firm in your decision - you deserve better than that <3

I'm really quiet and shy, but today I talked a little and the teacher spoke to me, and i almost started to cry. I gave her a sticky note later saying "I'm REALLY sorry Frown" then she said that it meant a lot to her. But I still feel embarrassed and so far I'm hating grade 7! (today was my 3rd day) What should I do?

Hey girlie,

I totally understand feeling shy in class, but pump yourself up by paying attention so you're never caught off-guard and voluntarily raising your hand so you get the hang of talking in public. It can be scary with the classes' eyes on you, but there's nothing to worry about...as long as you take a deep breath, focus on the matter at hand, and keep your answer short and sweet. I know you can do it - all you have to do is fake that confidence yourself until you actually feel it Smile
