Sometimes I want to hurt myself

When I do something wrong or stupid, I get really angry at myself and get this incredible urge to hurt myself.

Hey girl, you need to continue talking to a counselor and perhaps a close neighbor or family member too. You can't give up, but you can't fight this fight alone. Hang in there and continue to speak up.

Hey! Okay, so I love being topless. Mainly at night in my bed when everyone is asleep. I've talked to my best friend(who's more like my sister) and she said she's totally comfortable with me doing it while she's sleeping over. I'm not just gonna randomly rip my shirt off, but how do I do it? Sometimes when I'm not topless I feel bound down. She's knows I trust her, so she comfortable with seeing me topless. I really want to do it, but once again, I don't know how to. So of we're laying down at night, how should I do it? Please help! Thanks!

I know it won't be of any help if I say, "People do care about you, people will feel bad without you there" because you're already convinced otherwise. And that's ok - it's because you're feeling so lost and so depressed right now. It's amazing how those feelings can swallow us up. I'm frustrated because for the past couple of days every time I try to eat, it's really difficult to swallow and I feel like I'm going to choke and I gag. I have to swallow really hard to swallow at all and I'm really concerned because I'm hungry and want to eat! It took me 4 hours to have soup today because I kept taking breaks and coming back to it. My dad thinks it's a virus because his work friend has the same thing and that's what his doctor said but I don't know, it feels like a lump in my throat. I'm nervous about lunch on Monday back at school because I don't want to weird/creep out my "friends" because that's how they'll react or think I'm overreacting. Whenever I have a problem they say "Get over yourself." I'm trying to not be their friends but they're clingy and I'm scared of being alone. My dad is also at the store getting throat spray and coughdrops for my throat. What should I do?




Hey babe,

It sounds like you have a virus and might just be gagging because your stomach is uneasy/your bod isn't ready to eat but, if you're concerned and it lasts until Monday, a trip to the doctor might not be a bad idea. Explain it this way to your dad - that you feel like there is something there in the back of your throat that is making it impossible to eat. It doesn't hurt and you're not mucus-y back there, but you've got a lump in your throat like you've never had before. It's worth going to the doc to make sure you're ok! As for your friends, no worthwhile friend will ever tell you to get over yourself when you're having a problem. Friends should be there to support you, help you, and listen to you whenever you need something. Personally I'd try harder to meet new people in clubs, sports, a part time job, youth group, volunteer center, etc. Be out-going and challenge yourself to talk to new people, make plans to hang out, and open up to a new group. You deserve great friends, girl!

I know how you feel, girlie. I used to scratch myself too. I really didn't want to tell anyone, but now that I have told my youth pastor and am dealing with my issues head-on, it's so much better. I promise that keeping this to yourself will make everything worse. I'll pray for you. I love you.
