So I've had my period for over five years, since I was 11, and it's always been pretty regular. I've also been on the pill for a year and a half to help really bad cramps. But just the other day I had my period for only two days. Its always been five to seven and on time. Should I be worried? I know on this site you keep saying its OK to be irregular, but I've had my period for five years now...

Hey girlie,

It might be an after
effect of your medicine, but I would talk to your doc about it just to be safe.
Even though it’s probably nothing to worry about, it’s good to get a pro

UGHH my period has been going on since two weeks ago. I started on like April 23 and its still here! Also it doesn't look like its gonna stop anytime soon. It keeps getting heavier and heavier. Is there something wrong with me? How can I stop this? I jut want my period to end, I've lost so much blood sometimes when I stand I feel nauseous and faint.

Hey girl, you should definitely go talk to your mom or another trusted adult and tell them what's going on. It sounds like you need to go to a doctor who will definitely be able to help you out. xo

this morning when I woke up I felt Really really nauseous. Like I was about to throw up: It's not that bad anymore but I still feel like I'm gonna vomit. My mom said not to take and medication though until she comes home. (Wont be home till like 6pm) what should I do?

Hey girl, feeling sick is the worst, but you should def wait for your mom before you take any meds.  Check out this post: "10 things to do when you're home sick."  Get well soon!

help me please. my parents arent home (they are on a date) and I have really sharp cramps it almost feels like someone is stabbing me in the stomach I've tried everything using a heating pad, eating a banana and doing yoga but nothing's working. I don't have meds on hand right now!!! I don't want to call my mom/dad though cause I don't want to interfere with their outing.

Hey DMLover123, try sucking on ice. Drinking hot water or ginger ale may help too. Lay on your back with a heating pad or pillow on top of your stomach. Sometimes walking around reduces it too. If it gets too bad, call your parents so they can help. Hope you feel better! Xoxo Smile

I cant sleep. I keep waking up to puke (i have the stomach flu) i dont know if i should go to school tomorrow. I have a REALLY REALLY BIG test at school tomorrow and a tryout for the dance team. Should i still go? How can i stop puking and get to sleep? Thanks mods <3

Hey girlie,

if you're not feeling well you definitely shouldn't go to school. It won't make you feel any better, plus you run the chance of infecting all your classmates. You can always make up the test, and as for the dance team maybe you could e-mail the coach and let them know that you were really pumped to try out but you've come down with the stomach flu and you can't make it. You might be able to work something out! xoxo

My stomach hurts a lot. My parents said im not allowed to take iburofen, or midol or any kind of medecine, because they're not home. What do i do?

Hey girly, it depends on why your stomach hurts. If you have cramps, hop in the tub and the heat will relax your muscles. If you have a virus or something other than cramps, try drinking lots of water, eat something light only if your stomach can handle it and try to take a nap. I hope you feel better.

Im really confused about my period. Its been so irregular. Ive had it for like 1 1/2 years. And i skipped two months, idk why, and it came back like almost two weeks ago, and stopped almost a week ago. And i just got it again. Other than counting days, how else can i tell my period is coming? Thank you Smile

Hey girl,

You can sometimes tell by cramps or mood swings, or sometimes headaches or breakouts. It's normal to be irregular when you first get your period, but if you want to be sure you can talk to your mom or a doc to be safe!

I also have been having KILLER pains around where pants sit. Tylenol doesn't help! I have to sleep on a towel because I leak so badly! What should I do? Thanks!

Hey abbysea, you can throw them into your purse, and just take that with you when you go to the bathroom. Girls take their pocketbooks to the bathroom when they're not on their period, so no one should expect anything. Hope this helps! Xoxo

Hey Kstar101, periods have a tendency to be irregular. But if they start to last too long then you should let a doctor know. You may have to get heavier pads. Always has some really great products. Hope this helps! Xoxo

What is the difference between spotting and a regular period? Is it still shedding the lining of your uterus? How can that be all?

Hey girl,

Yes, spotting is technically coming from the same process that your regular period comes from. But it isn't a full period - when you spot, that's not ALL the lining coming out. It's just some. It can be caused by stress, changes in sleep/diet, hormones, certain medicines, and just your body's natural tendency to be a little irregular sometimes. It's nothing to worry about Smile

Hey fbvb13, no your period won't stop if you don't continue taking pills. It may become irregular or how heavy or light it is might change. No worries though. Xoxo

I got my first period yesterday.... But a day b4 my doctor gave me Melatonin for my sleeping insomnia. It works great but I hear they were some type of hormone. I think it caused me to start which I'm perfectly fine with but if I stop the pills will my period? Because I didn't have many signs that it was coming anyways I just don't want my period to stop bcim14!!!!! Lynae P.

by fbvb13 on 1/27/2012 3:23:31 PM

I'm going to be 14 in a few weeks and I had my first period two weeks ago, but it only lasted for one day. I have heard that sometimes when girls get their first period, it can just be a dry stain in their underwear, but it was more blood than that, but I wouldn't call it heavy. I definitely had pms, (I was crying for no reason the day before, had a headache, and cramps the day of) Is it even possible that I could have had it for only one day??

Hey Doll,

It's completely normal to only get your period for a day, especially if it's your first one. What you had was probably spotting, which is when your body just releases a little bit of blood. This is a sure sign that your regular flow will be coming soon, so start getting prepared! Most girls' periods don't become totally regular until a year after their first period, so it's possible that you could continue to spot before getting a heavier flow.

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD! I've had my period before but i got it again for the first time in a while yesterday @ school. At first i thought i was just sick so my mom picked me up but i actually had my period... Thank od i was wearing black pants! But anyways my bestie's bday is TOMORROW and its a sleepover. i really want to have a good time and not having to check my pad every 10 mins and im PETRIFIED of using a tampon.. Please help! I don't want to go to sleep and blood will get everywhere!Frown

Hey girly!

You could stop by at a department store and get overnight pads, which are longer than the regulars, so it covers areas that might stain while you sleep. If you wake up to find stains in the morning anyway, you could wash it with soap right away so it doesn't stay. Also remember that your bestie would most likely understand if it does happen. I found a link that have more suggestions.

Hey say. Xoox, the first year after you get your period they tend to be irregular. So no worries you're fine. Xoxo

so I've had my period since the end of June last year and my cycle is averagely 32 days but this time I'm already 7 days late! I'm not sexually active of anything, but this is the latest it's every been! Do you think it's normal? Or what's up with it!? Lynae P.

Does anyone know of the other ways of regulating our hormones other than being on the birth control pill? I thought that was the only way was to be on the pill but the article says there are other ways. One of my bff has been on the pill for a while to help regulate her periods and she said she has weird cravings during certain times and its all hormonal related.

Hey chickadee! Discharge can be such a pain. But, it might help to wear a pantyliner or small maxi pad throughout the day in your undies. That way, you won't feel so gross!

I've had my period since I was eleven & I recently turned fifteen on New Years Eve. Even after 3 and 1/2 years it's still irregular! I'll get my periods anywhere from 25-40 days apart from each other. It's completely random & I'm always caught off guard. Is it okay for my period to still be very irregular after 3+ years? Also, my period is super heavy. Whenever I get it I am always dizzy, shaky, & extremely pale. I seriously think I'm anemic. I am a vegetarian and even with iron supplements I don't get enough iron [I know that's bad]. Do you think it would be a good idea to talk to my doctor about all of this?

Hey girl,

It can be normal for your period to be irregular, but if you're experiencing dizziness and think you have an iron deficiency, you should definitely talk to a doc as soon as you can!

During my period I noticed I don't feel as hungry or want to eat a lot- and when I do, I end up feeling nauseus. I also have really bad cramps in the mornings. Is this normal? (this period right now is the only time I"ve had both of these problems.)

So I got my first period and I have horrible cramps and its super heavy..... Is this normal?

Hey girl,

Totally normal! I know it's kinda annoying, but it'll vary in flow throughout the week (from light to heavy to light again) and the cramps will come and go. Luckily though, most periods only last 3-8 days... it'll be over soon! Hang in there! <3 Take Advil for the cramps, use a heat pad/hot water bottle to soothe your belly muscles, and try to relax. Hey girlie,

Totally normal! Girls react to their periods in different ways and our symptoms/signs are all different. Mine even vary from month to month, which is way normal too! As long as it's semi-regular and you're treating your bod healthy, you'll be completely fine Smile

Ok, my period has been really irregular. i had one one May 12 2011, my first one, and one august 17. and thats it. so i might have my period again but idk? today i thought i may have had it, so i tried my moms method. put in a tampon for a few secs then take it out. if theres blood, chances are your on your period. if not your not. well i did that and i took it out and idk whatit was. it was like brown and clumpy on the tampon. is this bad or just my period? im kinda freaking out cuz im new with this and i hope its nothing bad! Thanks!

Hey girlie,

Usually, that brown stuff happens at the start/end of your period. So it could be on its way! It's totally normal for your period to be irregular, especially at the beginning. But since you're skipping major amounts of time in between periods, you should feel free to ask your doc if they have any advice. Just explain your situation and see what he/she recommends Smile

I am not on birth control but my cousin has been for a while and I have friends on it to regulate their periods and then others because they have bfs. I have been looking into it so I have been doing my searching and I have found some interesting facts.

1)50% more teens are on the pill than 10 years ago.
2)1 out of 5 teens 13 to 17 are on the pill.
3)Doctors are often prescribing the pill for girls 12 and 13 because of the pressures we are all dealing with.

More people are on it than you think, but just because you are on it doesnt mean you have to do anything, it just means you are being smart. Just thought you all wanted to know.

by luckykel on 11/28/2011 10:07:35 PM

I believe I am both lucky & unlucky. I do not have my period Smile I don't care whether or not I get it.
Although, a bunch of period signs are popping up including:
Mood Swings
Bunch of discharge
I am also depressed (not a caution sign for period) ...
I wrote this note to my friend:
My life feels like hell everything is so boring my life feels like a routine. It feels like my life is on slo-mo but time is going fast forward. I'm sick of the drama & crap ... my life needs a renaissance.
WHat should I do about my great depression?
U by Kotex is a great brand, right?

Hey girl!

I think U by Kotex is a great brand - it's what I use! And as for feeling like your life is a routine - shake it up! Ask your mom if you can go on a day trip next weekend to a different mall, to a fun city nearby, or to see your cousins who live far away. Try going to a club meeting for a club you've always wanted to join but never thought you have time for. Call a girl who you hang out with in class to hang out this weekend. Start stepping outside your comfort zone and exciting things will happen! xoxox

Hey girlie,

Unfortunately no, there is no way to delay your period Frown But who knows - it could come late/irregular between now and then, and you could be totally in the clear for the holidays/your trip! Try to think positive! Also, if you have bad cramps or it's unusually heavy, don't be afraid to talk to your doc about it. They've heard it all and could totally help you get back to normal! <3

I'm really worried about my period! I got it for the first time this past summer and it's been fine. It has been usually on the first week of every month.....but I haven't gotten it this month yet!!! It's 10/27/11 and so the month is nearly over, so I'm freaking out! I turned 14 last month so of course I haven't done, well, you know what, so I can't be pregnant of course. But I'm so confused and worried....any ideas why it's like this????

Hey girl,

Even if it wasn't at first, periods tend to be super irregular in the beginning. If you're a couple weeks behind, that's no reason to freak out! In fact, you could even be late because you're stressing out about it. Our mood and stress levels do affect it! So try to relax - since you know you can't be pregnant, I'm sure it'll come soon or next month. Hang in there! <3

I got my first period in August this year and haven't seen it since! Where did it go? Also do you have an idea of when it might show up again? Thanks!

Hey girl, hard to say! Sometimes the first year period can be irregular. It's totally OK. Just be ready with pads in case.

Mod mod mod: What does PMS mean??

PMS = Pre-Menstrual Syndrome. It's what we use to describe that time before our periods when we can feel bloated, emotional, moody, achy, etc.

Hey! Is it wierd for me to not like tampons. I have this super wierd fear in using them. I guess I am just afraid of putting something in me, or afraid that it would hurt. I have tried them before, but I just don't seem to like them. I know everyone prefers them and stuff, and that you can swim if you are wearing tamps. Do you have any ideas for me to get over this? Is it wierd? Are there other ways to go swimming while having your period, other than wearing tampons? THANKS!

Hey girlie,

It's not weird at all! Plenty of girls and women use pads and are just as happy. I personally use tampons because it's like no mess, they last longer, and you don't notice you have your period at ALL - I love it! And unfortunately, the only way to swim with your period is to use a tampon. You really only get used to tampons (if the idea freaks ya out) with practice and with kinda forcing yourself to use them until you get comfortable. But personally I think it's worth it Smile

There is no reason to suffer. If its bad enough the doctor will suggest you getting on birth control. A few of my friends had to do it when they were really young like at 12 and 13, so if its out of whack you may need to get on the pill.

With one of them her dad knows and with the other her dad doesnt and we still talk about her not wanting her dad to find out because he may not let her do some of the things she is doing. But we all deal with things differently, and I wouldnt be embarrassed about getting on birth control because more people are on it than you think. Plus you may never know when you may need it for what it was really made for.

MOD MOD MOD heyy Smile My period has been really irregular lately...When I first got it (I think in January two years ago) it was irregular but straightened out. During the summer, I felt like two months went by without a period. My last one was 8/22/11... Is this normal? Thank you!!

Hey girlfriend, I've read that the first year you get your period it's irregular, so maybe that is what your bod is going through. If you go through more than 2 months without a period again, I'd contact the doctor just to see if anything is going on. Hope this helps ya out!!! Smile Smile

I haven't had my period for a year yet, should I worry that I haven't had my period in 2 months?

Hey chica!

Your flow won't be set in stone month-to-month for years.  It is very inconsistent, in the beginning especially.  It doesn't sound like anything worrisome, but if you want to feel free to call up a doctor.

Just making sure that all is well but is it normal when you're having your period to feel hot and cold at the same time. My symptoms are nausea, cramps (which hurt like crazy sometimes), and I feel hot and cold, like I'll be sweating and shivering all at the same time. My mom said it's perfectly normal, but I'm just checking in with you guys too.

Hey girly, I've never experienced that but I'm sure there's a reason as to why you are feeling hot and cold. I would check in with your doctor to make sure that that is a normal side effect. Also, if your cramps are really bad, your doctor should be able to prescribe you some meds for it.

Your body is still getting used to having a period, though if you don't get it this month, check in with your doctor to make sure everything is okay Smile

Do you have to be a specific weight to get your first period? Like do you have to be 100lbs?

Hey girlie,

No, not at all!  Your period will come no matter what the specifics of your body are.

I've been getting mine every 2 weeks.
Not fun at all, especially since I get killer cramps when I'm on my period.

by rock-itpop on 10/11/2011 3:38:45 PM

Mod mod mod mOd!!!!
Is it normal for your first period to actually be your heaviest?? I have gotten my period a few times now and I can say that tht one was the heaviest!!!!!!!

Hey girlie!

Your period will fluctuate in length and how heavy it is plenty of times over the course of your life.  This is entirely normal.
