I've been struggling with anarexia with bulimic tendencies...One time my sister brought home candy and I cried because I had to restrict myself. My mom doesn't know I struggle everyday thinking "What if...." But, I've put my self with people on an ana support site and my bestie has even gone through this and just recovered last year. I am trying to recover but when I look in a mirror, I practically cry. What should I do to help myself get on track to become healthier?

Hey there chica! I'm glad you recognize that this is unhealthy. That's the first step. However, I really feel that you should talk to someone about this... maybe a school counselor or someone trained to handle it.

MOD MOD MOD!!!!
My mom thinks I have anorexia! She keeps asking if I'm eating! I totally am! Help!

Hey girlie,

Just show her that you are! Eat good sized, well-balanced meals in front of her. Show an interest in cooking so you learn new recipes, make dinner for the family, and let her know that food is on your radar. She's probably just looking out for you to make sure you're healthy and not hiding anything from her! But as long as you're eating well and getting exercise, you probably just have a fast metabolism/naturally thin frame. Nothing to be worried about! As long as you know you're healthy and treating your bod right, you can convince her with no problem Smile

Okay, so I have some super low self esteem, and lately I've been thinking I've been on the verge of Anorexia because of it. I don't even realize it when I don't eat anything, but sometimes I can go for a day without even thinking of eating, or just plain avoiding it because I want to get skinnier. All of my friends think it's turning into a problem, as well as my health teacher. How do I get through this and start eating normally again?

Hey girlie,

I'm so happy that you wrote to us and admitted the problem! That's the first step, which can be really hard for a lot of people. But you know you're looking at things differently and feel sick because of the self esteem issue, so that's positive. The next step is to talk to someone about this. You've said that your health teacher knows about it - can you schedule an after-school chat with him/her? Talk about the thoughts you've had, the problem you have eating, and that you really want to get help so you can look at food/your body normally again. He/she will either be able to help you through all your thoughts, or he/she can direct you to a counselor who is trained in this and who can help. You could also talk to a school counselor, clergy person, or another trusted adult - whatever feels most comfortable for you! But the important thing is that you're honest, open, and realistic about this problem. You need to get it under control so you can get back to a normal (and less stressful, less negative) daily life <3

help help help
my friend is really jelous of me and me other besties. Like once we were going to te computer lab and she like almost threw one of my friend to the floor just to it next to me and not her sitting next to me

Hey Chica,

This is a hard situation, why don't you try spending more time with this friend so she has no reason to get jealous? People show their feelings in weird ways sometimes, so try talking to this girl to figure out what's wrong.

MOD MOD MOD
I am 12 years old and really confused about my sexual orientation. Is it possible to like both boys and girls? I never look at a girl and be like, "oh she's hot" but sometimes i fantasize about them and stuff. And whenever a girl shows some sort of interest in me i get excited. But i really like boys too! And i have boy crushes. But, I don't tell anyone about it because i don't want to be bi and be known as "that gay girl." What is this? Please help.

Hey girl! it is okay to like both boys and girls there is nothing wrong with that! but if you are not necissarily attracted to girl then you may not like like girls. it is okay to have a girl crush with out actually crushing on the girl.

Thank you for writing this article. Though it doesn't go completely in depth, it's really nice to know that GL is covering this part of having an eating disorder. This is the stage I'm in, and it's great to have some support!
