MOD,
in school last week we were marking each other's tests (not big exams but not little mini-tests) and because I was marking for a kinda-close friend I was not being as fussy about giving marks as I should've done e.g. ignoring minor mistakes.. but halfway through marking she checked on how she was doing which wasn't very well and got REALLY angry. I explained how I was trying to get her the best score but she kept saying how I was going to get her in trouble when her parents check it. then everyone in the desks around me (including my best friend) turned round and joined in, saying things like "this is where friendship comes in" "don't be such a nerd, the teacher's never gonna check it". the truth was that a lot of the answers were way out, and impossible to say they were right. but iin the end i crumbled and did what they told me to do- marked about 80% right when her real mark was about 50%.
how can I not give in if this happens again- I don't wanna lose my friends!!!

Hey girl,

It sounds like you did the right thing -- it's not your fault if your pal needs a little extra help in school! If you're going to trade papers in the future, you could talk with your teacher in private and say that you're not comfortable grading your friends' work, and ask if you can move seats or grade someone you don't know. You could also offer to study with your friends outside of class so that she'll do better next time!
