hi er...i`ve never gone on one of these sites before but i would REALLY appreciate some advice. See there`s this guy i used to like (last year) who stopped talking to me after he moved up a set in science and i got over him after a while because i found out he has a girlfriend. But lately i sometimes catch him looking at me and i think he sometimes is about to talk to me but someone always cuts in (mostly girls). And whenever im near him he always brags about his NEW girlfriend (he broke up with the one he went out with when i used to like him). Whats going on? Do you think he likes me or wants to makes sure i DONT like him? If you could tell me what his possibly thinking and how i should act i would really appreciate it! Thanks!

i am going insane!!!! my life is totally mixed up , i am homeschooled and my only friends are a lot older than i am so i do not do much with them , but i was at a convention a few weeks ago and there was a really sweet guy that was following me and i know his gramma so i was talking to her and just as she was saying " oh my , you've gotten so pretty!!" sam walks up and starts talking to her he never talks directly to me but he always is staring at me, i turned around and he was pointing me out to his older bro!!! then i spotted him staring at me ! it get worse!! his family and my family are going to have a big BBQ on may 6 ,,, what do i do?

Dear Mod,
I have never been asked out before so therefore have never had a boyfriend or a first kiss and so on but there is this boy that seems to REALLY like me and my friends heard him talking about asking me out. I'm totally terrified because i have no idea what to say or what to do if he does ask me out. I'm not sure if i would say yes because i have no idea how i would tell my parents I'm dating someone especially because my dad is like my best friend who thinks I'm a strong independent girl. I also don't know if I would say yes because,well I'm completely terrified because i have absolutely no clue what you are supposed to do when you have a boyfriend like who's friends do you hang out with, what room to hang out in at home or even just how to act around him. I was never one of those popular girls that hangs around with boys 24/7 so i have no idea how to act in any way. Please help me!!




Hey girlie,

You can still be a strong, independent girl while enjoying getting to know a guy. It doesn't make you "weak" or a lesser person to date someone! It's also NOT smart to say no to something just because you're afraid. Sure it's a strange situation - you don't know what to do, what to say, or how to act because you've never done it before. But that doesn't mean you should let yourself freak out and run away from it. The only way you'll get better at it and more comfy with it is if you EMBRACE it and give it a try! First off, if he asks you out and you want to go out with him... there's no complex way to answer him. Tell him, "Sure, I'd love to." then follow it with a smile. As for telling your parents, let them know you've been getting to know this guy and he's great - he treats you with respect, he's sweet and smart, and you'd really like to get to know him better. He asked you to the movies (for example) and you'd really like to go, so you wanted to tell them first and make sure they're ok with it. Be honest! <3




Honestly, with most of it, you'll learn as you go along. Don't stress about whose friends you hang out with and little stuff like that - it's all about balance! You'll spend time with your friends and his, as well as time "just the two of you." If you're at home with him, chances are your parents will tell you to stay in the family room or on the porch - I wouldn't push it and try to hang out in the bedroom. Just treat him like a close friend who you can talk to, ask questions, and be yourself around! Let things happen naturally and just focus on enjoying your time together. You'll figure it out Smile

Could these be signs that my crush likes me...? He is normally very comfortable and chatty with people, but with me he can't look me in the eye and he barely speaks except to agree with me (like if we're discussing stuff for classwork), and even then it's usually because I directly ask him what he thinks. I'm really shy and get super nervous around him too so I either can't talk at all, or I start talking and then can't shut up (lol). When we pass in the hall he makes eye contact and he looks like he's about to say something but then it's too late...he has lots of female friends which sort of makes me jealous but he treats me differently so...idk he never really talks to me and I have asked him to hang out a few times in the past but he says he's busy, also his grandma (who he lives with) is really strict about him focusing on his studies and doesn't allow him to date but is that enough to make him act this way...? Sorry this was so long lol @_@ but what do you think??

It's hard to tell for sure unless he speaks up and admits it, but the fact that he treats you differently than his female friends says a lot. And he seems nervous/awkward around you, which could mean he's not sure how to act because of a crush. What you have to do is take a deep breath, swallow that shyness, and talk to him. Not nervous jabbering - ask him a question about his interests, his family, his weekend plans, music recommendations, homework... SOMETHING to get him talking. If you get to know him even better and get comfy talking around each other, you'll be in way better shape Smile

This guy that I like told his guy friend and my friend that he wants to take me to our end of 8th grade dance at the end of April and he said that in November and also in January and I used to talk to him a lot last year in 7th grade and now we don't talk that much anymore and he told my friend the other day that he doesn't know if hes gonna take me because he thinks I'll freak out when he asks me to the dance. But I wouldn't like literally freak out! Plus I'm super shy and I think that's why he doesn't talk to me anymore but I'm scared did I ruin it? Will he still wanna take me? You gotta get rid of that shyness! Fear and nerves have messed up many crush situations in the past, so don't let that happen here. Try talking to him a little more from now on - not a LOT because he'll know something is up, but just more than normal. Take a deep breath and leave the shyness out of the mix. Ask him questions about himself (his interests, weekend plans, family and friends, hobbies) to show you're interested and want to hear what he has to say. Be friendly and warm so he gets more comfy around you. If he feels better around you, he probably won't be so scared that you'll "freak out" if he asks you Smile

Ok, so I really like this amazing guy named Jesse who goes to my school. He's really nice, smart, athletic, and not to mention HOT, but I'm pretty much a weird nobody at our school and he's really popular, so I don't think he even knows who I am. I mean, we're in most of the same classes, but he's always with his guy friends so I can never talk to him. Also, I'm really shy and nervous around him, so I don't know how to talk to him without giving it away that I like him (I want to get to know him more first). How do I talk to him without giving my secret crush away?

Hey girlie,

The best thing to do is try to catch him one-on-one - maybe while he's at his locker, heading to an after school activity, walking home after class. That way, he's not influenced by what his crew thinks and will probably be able to have a normal convo with you! You could also chat online instead of in person - that way, you can get to know him better as a friend while also breaking the ice. It gives you more time to think about what you're going to say, helps you sort out your responses...and you'll be way more comfy around him if you've had successful convos online first. As for not giving your crush away, just keep things friendly for now. Treat him like another one of your friends and ask him questions about his interests, hobbies, fave sports and music, family, friends, weekend plans, etc. Seem interested, but also try not to flirt or tease him too much. That might give away your crush - but if you keep things relaxed and friendly, he won't suspect a thing Smile

I really like one of my good guy friends. ever since we exchanged numbers on Valentine's Day(how ironic!!)we've talked almost every single day, and for at least 3 hours everytime!! last saturday when we were texting, we kept asking what the other was doing and the whole time he was:typing a paper, hanging out with his brother, then slept over at a friends' house. not ONCE did he say he had to go, which meant he wanted to keep talking right? and after his practices he always texts me back right away. also last night when we talked,he complimented me and winked a lot. could he like me? it's great when we're texting, but in person, we kinda ignore eachotherFrown how can i fix that?

He probably did want to talk since he kept responding, but he may just be talking to you since you're good friends! If he's complimenting you, that's a good sign! If you like talking to him while texting, start a casual conversation about anything -- school, friends, etc. in person. It will be easier to get to know each other if you talk face-to-face!

okay..so I really like this guy, we've been talking alot lately, the other day we were skyping for like 30 minutes and he told me that he really wants a gf and was asking if i was into anyone and he tells me that he thinks i'm cute and said he wants to hang out, the other day at a bball game we were by each other the whole time and talking and flirting and stuff and then we hugged after and he's super sweet and i think he likes me???....but here's the problem haha he's a senior..i'm a freshman (but he's 17 and i'm 15 so it's not that big of diff) and he's black...only like a quarter cuz his mom's white and his dad is half but i'm not allowed to date black guys so i don't really know what to do....should i talk to my parents or wait and see if it starts to become more of a relationship??

It sounds like he likes you, so if you want to hang out, you should! Age differences can be important when you're young, so I would be careful and just make sure you're on the same page. As for your parents and race ... it can be difficult to have conversations about equality with people of other generations, so you can tell your parents what a great guy he is but they may not budge. Racism is never okay, but it's also not a good idea to go against your parents. If talking to them doesn't go anywhere, try talking to a trusted adult like a different family member, teacher or guidance counselor for professional advice. Good luck!

Find someone who loves being the center of attention, and spend time with her -- she'll bring you into the spotlight without overwhelming you. Talking to new people in one-on-one conversations is also a less-intimidating way to meet new people.

My ex bf broke up with me about two months ago out of the blue. HE said he didn't feel like hanging out with me anymore. We were really close and now he acts like I don't exist. okay so I asked this guy out on valentine's day that I only liked a little bit. He thought it was a dare and said no. I told him later that it wasn't a dare and he didn't change his mind.
Well apparently everyone I mean EVERYONE found out and now EVERYONE knows I'm sweet on him and the terrible thing is, now I REALLY like him. yes it sucks like heck. We used to be great friends before and a little bit after I asked him out but now he COMPLETELY ignores me. My friends think he likes me now but I'm not so sure. why is he doing this? it kind of hurts me, in a way. Frown PLEASE help me.

 

hey! I'm sorry. Guys can be intimidated sometimes when a girl likes them. They don't know how to handle it so they ignore it. I think you should give him some space for a while, then gradually start talking again and you'll be friends again in no time.

So i just had knee surgery yesterday and have to wear this big brace from the top of my thigh to my ankle. all i can think of to wear when i go back to school is like running shorts or something. any ideas? i tried a skirt but it just looks wierd. thanks




Hey girl! So sorry about your surgery but glad you are okay! A dress is a comfortable and easy way to dress up and bit, and one that is more form fitting may look a little better than one that is loose and flowy. Also, if you can put leggings on under your cast and then paired with an oversized sweater is a chic way to look nice and comfy for school.

hey girl! Although it is a sticky situation, sometimes the best thing to do is just stay out of it. You are not certain that both of them will make a move so just wait it out and see what happens. But getting too involved could be worse than what may happen.

In health class, we got an assignment to make an exercise paln for one month at 5x per week. At this we need to have 20 different workouts. I have no clue what to do!




Hey girly. Planks, side twists, squats, and crunches are all a good place to start. Plus, you take some of those up a level by adding weights or push up in between each rep. Running after is always a good idea too to add some cardio.
