I mean it's great that Cobie won and all but her story didn't really make sense, like what they were learning in school and that high school is that cliquey (like in the movies). Hey chica, you could put your story in a Word doc and then attach it to your email so that you can use Times New Roman. But if you already sent in your entry, don't sweat it. As long as the font is close, that's probably fine.

For the pool party, check out our online Health&Fitness section and click on workouts! As for the boy, why don't you just start off by having simple convos with him, whether it's online or in person? You could invite him to a group hang-out with some of your mutual friends and just become his friend. If you use the summer to get to know him, next year you can hangout regardless of whether you have class together!

The ladies here at GL will be picking the winners with help from three celeb authors! Double spacing means that there is extra space between each line you type in your story. Normally, you probably write single spaced. On most Microsoft Word versions you can change the spacing under "Paragraph." GL will email you if you win. Hope this helps and good luck!

My story might invovle cutting and depression. It won't go into great detail, but it's an important part of the storyline. Would that be okay?

Hey Baily,

This is YOUR piece of original fiction, so if you want to explore a dark subject, go for it. Make sure each part is necessary and you aren't just using a certain "controversial" element just to use it. As long as you stay true to yourself while also keeping the story Young Adult appropriate (and especially if it could help a reader), I don't see why you couldn't write about these common feelings <3

In the article it says,
" 3. Please double-space your submission and use size 12 Times New Roman font, so our readers will be able read everything you’ve written. "
What does "double-space" mean?

Hey girlie,

That's a setting in Word that will make your submission easier for us to read because it puts more space in between each line. You can change the setting by going to Format >> Paragraph >> Line Spacing. Select "Double" or "2.0," depending on your version of Word. And get used to it, because all the essays you'll write in high school/college will probably require it!

i have a story i've been writing, but it's written in poems. if it's still under 1500 words can i submit it anyway?

There's technically no rule against entries of this format (it's fictional, after all), but we are asking for short stories, so I'm not sure this would qualify. Each girl is allowed to submit 3 stories though, so try submitting your "poem story" and one traditional short story! xoxo

Hey girlie,

You can totally use your pen name! When you submit, you should give us your real name just so we have it on record - but if you want to go by a different name in case we select your entry as the winning story, that is totally fine. Lots of amazing authors have pen names, so we understand!!

Unfortunately, the only place you can read Cobie Ray's winning story is the February/March 2012 issue of GL <3 (Click here for our winner's announcement and the details.)

There is this kid at school who always comes up and talks to me,when I really don't want to talk to him. It used to happen only every ounce in a while, but know it is practically every day. I want to tell him I don't want to talk to him, I've already tried to give him short to the point answers but he doesn't get the clue. I also don't want to hurt his feelings because alot of other people are mean to him. Yes, I know there are only be a few more days of school left, but I just want to know in case I'm in the same class with him next. What should I do? Thanks.

I think you're really doing the right thing here. Give him an answer, then walk away. A little bit of attention never hurt anyone - and he's probably talking to you BECAUSE he knows you're friendly and won't hurt his feelings. You're better than that! You don't have any reason to shun him (he's just annoying, not mean or dangerous), so talk a little and then get back to what you're doing. If you're crunched for time and trying to finish a homework assignment, be honest and say you don't have time to talk right now. But it's best if you just tough it out and be pleasant, instead of being mean without having a reason to be <3

Hey girl,

One of the best things about writing is that you're completely in control of the topic, characters and plot. However, if you think that the topic may be offensive to certain people, don't send them your story.
