Hey e2000, yes I'm sure they will. For one it was only sent in a minute late and we are probably able to see you are submitting from a different time zone. Xoxo Smile MODMODMODMOD!!
I live in California, meaning your midnight is 9:00 here. I tried to enter my stories, but they were sent in at 9:01, in other words a minute after the due date. Will it still be accepted? I worked really hard! Lynae P.

Hey girl,

Of course they'll read your story! As long as you sent it in before the due date, you'll be fine Smile We received a lot of submissions so I can't guarantee you'll win, but we're sooo glad you participated in the contest and let your imagination run wild! Keep on writing <3

Say you wrote your story in Microsoft Word. Highlight the entire story, then select "Copy." Then go to your email. Create a new email message. In the big box where you normally would write the actual email, right-click and select "Paste" Smile

I completely forgot to double space my entry when I sent it...I don't know what happened but I forgot! Will they still accept it? Please ask! I need real answers, I worked really hard for them not to even read it! Please ask them thank you soooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey! While I can't ask them directly for you (I don't work in the same place the editors do) I can tell you that it's probably ok, and if you're still worried, just re-submit it double spaced with a note saying to disregard your previous entry. Good luck!

Hi! I know I keep commenting on this I just keep getting new questions lol. Ok so, I know i asked this before but i wanted to make sure about this. I made the title like size 16 or 20 font so it would stand out from the story. Does that mean the story is disqualified? Also I entered three stories at different dates, is that ok? And lastly, lol, when will we know the results of the winners/runner ups?
Thanks in advance soo much

Hey girl,

If it was just the title, tht should be fine, and entering at different dates is fine too! The entries are due on July 17, so the winners will be picked sometime later this year!

quick question: Is it okay if the story is some what fantisy, because im not for sure if mine would be considered so. It does not have magic and stuff like that in it but I read what I have so far to a friend and she said it soulded some what fantasy.

Hey girl,

The title size isn't really that big of a deal, so I'm sure you're fine - you won't be disqualified! Good luck!

Hey, I'm really interested in this contest, and have submitted a story in already. But I have a new idea for a story, and need to know if it's okay. My idea is if I could submit the story that is the perspective of a famous person's life. This example is not my idea, but so you know what I mean: through the eyes of Martha Washington and her life. Is it okay if I use real names to tell a story like that? Please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you so much!

Hey girlie,

Hey girlie,

Go back through your story and try to edit a little bit. We have the word limit for a reason, so it wouldn't be smart to go over 1,500 words - that would disqualify you <3

Hey girlie,

We post all sorts of pieces by our lovely GL users! (Even photography!) Check out all of them here:

And you could always edit that short story down to 2,500 and submit it for our fiction contest, if you want to try again! Smile

I am so excited to see who wins this year, since last year's was kind of a bummer. I mean it's great that Cobie won and all but her story didn't really make sense, like what they were learning in school and that high school is that cliquey (like in the movies). I just think that we should write about stuff that we, the writers can relate too, I don't write about highschool or boys because I'll be a freshman and I don't know much about high school and I've never had a boyfriend. I stick to friendship and fantasy!!!!

so i know the word count is from 500-1500. But i was wondering if it's even worth sending in my story because it's like 1.714 words and I've been trimming it. So should i send it in but would it count as 2 stories or one? should i send it by halves and have it count as my two stories? because i'm pretty confident that i want to send it in

Hey girl!

We recommend that you really try and trim it down to as close to 1500 as you can get. We can't count that as two stories, so do your best to trim it! Thanks!

Hi, I was wondering if we were allowed to be anonymous in the contest. I would be okay putting my first name and age, but if I win I don't really want to put a picture of myself nor my last name for privacy reasons. Would I still be able to get published if I did not want to do that? Please give me as much information as you can!
Thank you so much, this will be very helpful!
Now, I've got to get back to writing!

Hey girl!

We'd never put your last name out there--just your last initial, so don't worry about it! As for your picture, we don't ask for one--is this a prize on the website? As long as you fill in all the required information (last name may be included) you'll be in the running because if you win we need to know your last name so we can send it to you!

for the short story I was wondering if the story had to be a max of 1500 words, or can it be more? Thanks!

Hey girl,

I am not sure if you will automatically be disqualified for having more than 1500 words, but I would try to stick to that limit just to be safe!

I have the story for the contest all on my iPod touch (which, btw, I'm writing this with it right now) and I can't really control the font size or style. I can change if necessary (meaning emailing it to my computer and then changing it) but do I have to? In the email, it's pretty standard font. Also if I do paste it onto the email, does it have to be double-spaced? Thanks.

Hey girl!

I think the way you're doing it is fine, but to be sure I'd do it on a computer where you can make it more clear. And double spaced is best!

ok number one i love writing and i was wondering is it ok if i write about the last day of sixth grade( which was yesterday for me) and would that have any effect because llots of the people who read it are in high school?
number two i am going to a pool party in like six days and is there any way that i can lose some stumache fat or even apear less flabby?
number three there is a guy i like and i dont think he even notices me that much i know he like knows me and this year i had one class with him - gifted and talented. and next year i dont think hes gonna do that, so help.
sorry for the long message but please help!!!!!

Hey babe,

It's totally fine for you to write about sixth grade, but remember this is a fiction contest, so don't use real details about you or your school. For the pool party, check out our online Health&Fitness section and click on workouts! As for the boy, why don't you just start off by having simple convos with him, whether it's online or in person? You could invite him to a group hang-out with some of your mutual friends and just become his friend. If you use the summer to get to know him, next year you can hangout regardless of whether you have class together!

Will this be a computer picking the winner? And what does double-spacing mean? I'm sorry for all the questions... And will GL email us if we win? Thanks much! XOXOXO

Hey girl!

The ladies here at GL will be picking the winners with help from three celeb authors! Double spacing means that there is extra space between each line you type in your story. Normally, you probably write single spaced. On most Microsoft Word versions you can change the spacing under "Paragraph." GL will email you if you win. Hope this helps and good luck!

I am really excited for this contest and I enjoy writing very much. There is only one thing I am confused about; What does it mean when it said "Please double-space your submission"
Does it mean to double space after every word or what?
Thanks! =)

My story might invovle cutting and depression. It won't go into great detail, but it's an important part of the storyline. Would that be okay?
Thanks in advance,
Baily

Hey Baily,

This is YOUR piece of original fiction, so if you want to explore a dark subject, go for it. Make sure each part is necessary and you aren't just using a certain "controversial" element just to use it. As long as you stay true to yourself while also keeping the story Young Adult appropriate (and especially if it could help a reader), I don't see why you couldn't write about these common feelings <3

In the article it says,
" 3. Please double-space your submission and use size 12 Times New Roman font, so our readers will be able read everything you’ve written. "
What does "double-space" mean?

Hey girlie,

That's a setting in Word that will make your submission easier for us to read because it puts more space in between each line. You can change the setting by going to Format >> Paragraph >> Line Spacing. Select "Double" or "2.0," depending on your version of Word. And get used to it, because all the essays you'll write in high school/college will probably require it!

i have a story i've been writing, but it's written in poems. if it's still under 1500 words can i submit it anyway?

Hey girlie,

There's technically no rule against entries of this format (it's fictional, after all), but we are asking for short stories, so I'm not sure this would qualify. Each girl is allowed to submit 3 stories though, so try submitting your "poem story" and one traditional short story! xoxo

I started writing my fiction story and was wondering if I was allowed to use my pen name, or just my first name. Also, is there anywhere that I could read last year's winning story? Thanks!

Hey girlie,

You can totally use your pen name! When you submit, you should give us your real name just so we have it on record - but if you want to go by a different name in case we select your entry as the winning story, that is totally fine. Lots of amazing authors have pen names, so we understand!!

Unfortunately, the only place you can read Cobie Ray's winning story is the February/March 2012 issue of GL <3 (Click here for our winner's announcement and the details.

Just to be clear, fanfiction is NOT allowed?

Hey girlie,

There's technically no rule against entries of this format (it's fictional, after all), but we are asking for totally original short stories, so I'm not sure this would qualify. Each girl is allowed to submit 3 stories though, so try submitting one fan fic and one traditional, original short story! xoxo

There is this kid at school who always comes up and talks to me,when I really don't want to talk to him. It used to happen only every ounce in a while, but know it is practically every day. I want to tell him I don't want to talk to him, I've already tried to give him short to the point answers but he doesn't get the clue. I also don't want to hurt his feelings because alot of other people are mean to him. Yes, I know there are only be a few more days of school left, but I just want to know in case I'm in the same class with him next. What should I do? Thanks.

Hey girl,

I think you're really doing the right thing here. Give him an answer, then walk away. A little bit of attention never hurt anyone - and he's probably talking to you BECAUSE he knows you're friendly and won't hurt his feelings. You're better than that! You don't have any reason to shun him (he's just annoying, not mean or dangerous), so talk a little and then get back to what you're doing. If you're crunched for time and trying to finish a homework assignment, be honest and say you don't have time to talk right now. But it's best if you just tough it out and be pleasant, instead of being mean without having a reason to be <3

Thank you

The mods actually don't have the power to delete clubs - to do that, please check out our club FAQ and email the GL editor listed there Smile

I had started writing a story already but it's about a serious/edgy topic, that could be hard on people, even though it's complete fiction. Is that okay??
~Thanks!!!!

Hey girl,

One of the best things about writing is that you're completely in control of the topic, characters and plot. However, if you think that the topic may be offensive to certain people, don't send them your story.

Happy writing!
