i'm 14 and just got my period last month, and got it again on time this month. last month i used only pads but it was wayyy too much of a hassle (i have to wear spandex for volleyball plus i can't swim!). i have tried 6 times to put in a tampon but it doesn't go in all the way (sorry kinda gross). i've looked up tips but nothing is working! helpp Frown

I have gotten a slightly regular period that started in October, and I got it October, November, December, and January, varying by a couple days, but I'd always get it. I have not gotten my period in February or March... Should I be worried? I know that periods are irregular the first year or so, but I just want to check that my period completely skipping is OK. Hey girlie, it's probably nothing to be worried about. Abnormal periods are typical during your first few cycles. If it doesn't stop or your future periods continue to last that long then you might want to see a doctor.

Hey girl, everyone's bod is different and timings for periods/discharge vary a lot.  If you're still worried, talk to your Mom or consult a physician (like a nurse).  Good luck!

Hey girlie, it doesn't have to be brown before your period. Just be prepared for whenever your period comes.

Hey girlie! While it is common for women who are pregnant to get a brown discharge, it's not linked solely to pregnancy. It's totally normal to get it - in fact, it happens fairly regularly - without being pregnant at all.

I have a quick question. Is wearing a pad that's more absorbent than you need it to be, bad? As in, if my period's light, is it fine to be wearing a regular absorbency pad? And are tampons the same? Thanks, I got my period at the beginning of February so I'm still new to it (I got it again today). Thanks!

Okay, so at the beginning of January, I had the same issue as the girl in the article here, except there was only a tiny little brown stuff, and I know it wasn't poop because I just knew! I changed my undies and the brown spot was still there, and my 'period' lasted three days overall. I'd had discharge for about a year, puberty for about two years, but the spot seemed a lot smaller than all of the websites I've been to have said, so was it leading up to my real period or some kind of false alarm?

 

Hey girlie, I think the advice in the article is probably true for you too. It's not very much because it's just brown discharge. So wear panty liners and have pads at home to be ready for when your period does come for real.

Why is my period brown and how do I know when to put on a pad since I just started havin it a week ago

 

Hey! I'm not sure, but it is common for your period to appear brown or rust colored. You should ask a doctor about specifically why that is, since I'm not sure. Put on a pad as soon as it starts (carry around spares in case it starts when you're at school. if you don't have a pad on you when it starts, you can fold up some toilet paper to make a temporary one until you get home)

hey! It sounds like you got your period. You should start wearing pads or tampons every day until it goes away (5-8 days on average) mark your calendar for this time next month and be expecting it again around then. Don't worry if your experience doesn't match this exactly. Everyone is different and periods can be irregular especially for the first year. good luck!

Okay so in november i turned 15 and i was really upset because i have been discharging and have pubic hair in all the places but still didnt have my period. I also have most of the symptoms like moodswings and breast tenderness and lower back pain. However last friday i went to the bathroom and there was brown stuff all over my underwear and so i put a panty liner on. Then they next morning there was alot more of it. Its monday now and my mom says its my period but im not sure because its not red or anything but its still coming out an i have to change pads every 2-4 hours. Hey girl,

That sounds like it is your period, especially if your mom has seen it and says that it is! When blood is less fresh it can turn brown, so just make sure you're changing your pad regularly.

I am really confused on the whole period concept. Ive practically hit everything in puberty except for that. I am a bigger girl, and my mom told me that puberty will come faster depending on your body size. I have also been expiriencing cramps (down there), constant mood swings, discharge, lower back aches, etc. But, my mom told me she had things like that for a whole year before her actual period started. I've been having a REALLY tough time getting to sleep lately or having a bad sleep. I usally have this pattern when I go to bed at 10:30, close my eyes for an hour, still not sleepy, get hungry go downstairs get a snack come back up and can't get to sleep. Last night I slept 3 hours, 12:00- 4:30 AM and i went to sleep again till 8:00. MOD MOD MOD!!!!!!!! So I got my first real period in June last year and it lasted the normal time. Then for the whole summer I did not get any at all, then in september i just had spotting, and sometimes it lasted for two weeks. in the end of October I got another real one. Then in December I had spotting which lasted three and a half weeks! It has stopped finally, thankfully. So I have only had two real ones since June, and in between they are oddly spaced and just spotting. I am almost 14, 5'4" and 90 lb. is it anything to be concerned about? Thank you so much!!!!

 

hey girl! you have absolutely no reason to be concerned. as annoying as it is, periods can be VERY irregular for the first two years, and some girls never get onto a regular cycle. I've had my period for 6 or 7 years and I'm still not regular! Just keep an eye out for PMS symptoms to give you a heads up of when yours is on its way.

I have SO much pubic hair. SO SO SO much. It's really long and coarse. I swear it's a jungle down there. And it spreads from thigh to thigh! It gets really itchy sometimes, and it gets caught in the sides of my underwear when I'm sitting down, so when I stand it it gets yanked and it HURTS. I tried shaving a tiny patch during the summer, and it itched for two weeks straight, even with lotion. How can I get rid of the hair that makes me itch so badly? There's nothing wrong with the skin, it's just the hair is so long and thick that it is just a clump.

I've had my period for five months. I don't really have a problem, except that my flow is always really light. My Mom says it's because I'm so active-- I am. I swim every single day for an hour and a half (Yeah, I do competitive swimming). So I'm wondering: why does my period get so light because I exercise so much? How does that work? Hey girl! Being super active definitely seems to have an effect on periods. Some girls only get theirs for a few days or some may have light days like you. It totally depends on the girl, but it's totally normal! Mad props to you for staying fit!

So, I have been getting spotting and cramps every month for five months. It's like a period, but it's so light that I don't have to wear a pad. I haven't gotten my period, but is this it? I am super active (and 14). I weigh around 100 pounds.I'm almost a B cup. I'm concerned, worried, and scared because most girls have gotten their real period after like two months of spotting at the most, and I have never heard of or read anything like this. I kind of want to ask a doctor, but I'm scared to ask my Mom because she's all like, "It'll come when it's ready." but I'm scared because I'm not sure if this is normal. Please help! PLEASE PLEASE. I am scared.

Hey girl, Moms are one of the best resources on this subject.  Tell her about the spotting and ask if she thinks you should see a doctor.  Don't worry, everyone's bod is different, which means our periods begin at different times.  In the meantime, make sure you're prepared for a heavier flow by sticking a pad in your purse or backpack.

is it normal to something like a blood clot during your period? i know blood clots aren't good for you so i was just wondering if this was normal?

 

 

Hey Chica, A blood clot is completely unrelated to your period, a blood clot is when the blood get's stopped in your artery and can cause heart attacks or strokes. This is very very rare in teens and can only be detected by a doctor. I doubt that is what you mean, could you be a little more specific?

For five months I've had spotting and cramps every month. I wasn't sure if it was my period or not, but I figured it had to be soon if it hadn't already started. Well, this month (the fifth month that it had happened) and this time, there was blood when I wiped and this went on, with cramps and a little blood when I wiped for eight days. Also, there was a little blood on my undies. Was this my period, and do you think I can expect a REAL period next month? My period is so dramatic and I don't know how much longer I have until my real period shows up. It feels like its never really going to come. I've looked it up on Google, but no one else has my situation Frown

 

Hey girlie, next time you're at the doctor talk to her about it. I think it sounds like you probably just have a really light period, but you should talk to a professional to be sure.

I'm so sad. I broke up with my boyfriend yesterday (he kissed my BFF) and since then I've been so anti social and I haven't been outside my house for a day. I don't know why this is happening cause I know it was the right thing to do but I still miss him even though he cheated on me. What can I do to keep my mind off of him.

MOD MOD MOD!!!! ive been geting discharge for 1 or 2 years and i still didn't get my period. ive had pubic and underarm hair and i think ive had my growth spurt?!!! my mom said she got her period when she was 11 or 12 and im 12 now. im also kinda skinny i weigh 75 pounds and im in seventh grade.

Hey girl,

Everyone is different when it comes to the first period, so don't worry if you're older than your mom was when she got hers! If you're worried, you can talk to a doc about it not coming yet, but it's normal for yours to not be here, and you will get it when your body's ready!

For a few months I had brown stuff. But last month I had a REALLY bad cramp! I wanted to curl up into a ball. It was that bad! I was talking to my male retired neighbor at the time, and it was really hard not to look like I was hurt. It was my period. For the next 2 days it was constant bleeding, it really sucked. But for the last two days it wasn't as much. Will the cramps be that bad every time? Is it normal that I was bleeding constantly? Do I need to get maxi pads for the beginning of my cycle? Please help!

Hey girl,

Cramps are pretty normal, but you can take over-the-counter pain medication to help relieve them. And yep, your period is pretty much constant bleeding for a few days! If maxi pads work for you, I would use them!

MOD MOD MOD!!!! Ok I've had pretty much all of the signs for my period for a while now but i don't have it! Im younger then my mum was when she got it. I have super heavy discharge and i get super moody but it's not red or brown, its been white since september! What's up with me?!?! Please help!!!

 

Hey! the only way to really feel reassured is to talk to your doctor about all of these questions Smile To be honest, that's what we mods just have to tell you guys when you come to us with any health concerns. You may very well be fine, but since we're not doctors and we can't even see you face to face, it's not for us to tell you what's fine and what isn't. You know your body. Trust your instincts and talk to your doc!

Is there any way to start your first period earlier? I'm soooo tired of the suspense and not knowing if it is happening when I'm having lessons at school. It would be really embarrassing if it happened when I was talking to my crush....

 

Hey! not really, but after a while you will be able to see that it happens around the same time every month. Then it'll become more predictable Smile

This is really embarrassing, and really awkward. But, my mom says I need to wash down there, but I don't know...how. How are you supposed to do it? Sorry for this totally awkward question...
FYI, I got my period last December, and I haven't cleaned down there...ever, because I didn't know what to do. Is that bad?

 

 Hey girl, it sounds like you're really open to your mom about this issue, so why not ask her for some personal hygene tips. But some basic down there washing tip:, use a mild soap. Not an anti bacterial soap since it can mess with your PH levels and wash up every time you take a shower and especially if you have your period. There are also wipes you can use if ya want for in between showers to stay clean down there during a bathroom break when your on your period.

My thumb nail has been annoying me lately. And then today, it started hurting really bad because of a hangnail. I tried clipping the hangnail off, but it still is REALLY REALLY painful. Any other ways I can get rid of a painful hangnail?

So I am 13 and I am starting to finally get a regular perioid time. I've had it 4 or 5 times now and each time I try putting in a tampon, I almost get it in but not all the way! I then of course have to take it out and it hurts then because it is dry coming out. Any suggestions on how to put in a tamon after that many trys? I really want to be able to wear tampons instead of pads in school sooo any suggestions? and also if I where a tampon to school and I get on the bus at 6:40 and i get home around 3:40, what time should I change it at school? Thank You sooo much!

Hey Cowsrule11, be sure you have the right sized tampons. Try propping your legs up on the bathtub or toilet, and insert it at an angle. It sounds like you need small ones. Change it as often as you feel you need to. Maybe every 1-3 hours. Hope this helps! Xoxo

Is it still the same thing if the discharge is yellow. I have the same thing but it's not brown it is a dark yellow.

Hey Girly, Don't worry. It's hard to predict when your period might come, even if you experience the symptoms. And although it's likely you will get it around the same age as your mom, it isn't a sure thing. There are a lot of other factors that could go into it: your diet, weight, activity level, genetics from the other side of the family... However if you are getting to be 16 or 17 you might want to talk to your doctor.

Hey Girl! Pantiliners are a lot thinner and are used daily to keep everything clean down there, pads are used for heavy period flow.

Hey Girl, 8 days and 15 days are a really long time. It's definitely a good thing that things are more regular now, but its definitely normal the first few times you get your period for it to be really light, or really heavy, and then for you to go a long time without you getting it again.

He Chica, It's totally natural for girls to get their period and for it not to be regular especially when they first start getting it.. Some girls will get it, and then go an entire year before they get it again. So don't worry.

Yes, Girl, That could be a possibility. Continuous brown discharge could be a sign of infection or it could be just dried blood. Be sure to wash down there regularly.

I wear a pad, the thin ones. I've worn it for a few months now. Sometimes I forget to swap. ( OMG ) And my white discharged turns brown! Is this at all normal?


 


Hey Chica, switch your pad the same time every day so you don't foget. Discharge is cleaning out your vagina and you don't want whats being removed to be "sitting around" and that is what could be causing it to turn brown.

Hey Girl! Women continue to get discharge up until Menopause (which is a long time away for you). Discharge is really important to keep your vagina healthy, and it varies how often it happens between girls.
