I can't lose weight

I am 13 years old, in 8th grade, five feet tall and overweight. It feels like I have tried EVERYTHING to lose weight and nothing is working. You will probably tell me to exercise and eat healthy...but I am. I'm not a big potato chip and soda fan; the only junk food I have is sometimes a cookie. I am also in volleyball, which keeps me active for a couple hours five days a week.
 
When I was younger, I ate a lot of junk food and it caught up to me. Now I can't borrow my friend's sweatshirt or anything, and guys steer clear of me. It makes me feel horrible! What can I possibly do to lose weight, get guys to notice me, and feel confident?!

 

Hey girl, I am so sorry to hear that. Trust me when I say that eating healthy and exercising does make a difference, even if you don’t think you can see it in the mirror. When it comes to solving your sitch, however, your solution is twofold: When it comes to your bod, talk to a doctor. When it comes to your confidence, do exercises to build it up from the inside.

 

What’s Up, Doc?

It’s important whenever you try to lose weight that you talk to a doctor, who will help to determine a strategy to lose it healthily (so no crash diets!). In your case especially, a doctor can tell you why you’re not losing weight. Maybe it’s baby fat from puberty that you’ll lose as you grow. Your doc can give you the answer based on your health history and some weight loss strategies customized just for you.

 

Everything in Moderation

A note in terms of diet: It’s important to realize that just eating healthy doesn’t translate to auto-weight loss. Five apples, while much healthier than one cookie, is still five of something, after all. Diets are not only about quality, but quantity. Be sure to limit what you eat to serving sizes. Eat until you’re satisfied, not until you’re full. Once you’re satisfied, stop.

 

Confidence Builders

Having confidence inside can translate to a more gorgeous you that attracts guys on the outside. When you look at yourself in the mirror, make a list of things you love about yourself. Counter every negative thought with two positive ones. At school, be courageous: Talk to that guy you’ve been crushing on since forever. You’ll find that if you put your best forward and keep a smile on your face, you’ll def get one back.

 

All in all, don’t lose hope. It can be discouraging when you don’t see results, but by talking to a doctor, keeping things in moderation and daring yourself to be your best you, you will get that right kind of attention. Remember, all girls are beautiful no matter what their numbers are. Best of luck!

I think I'm way too fat. I'm 13, 5'4 and about 99-100 lbs. I don't know if I'm anorexic or not; I never eat, even when I'm starving. My friends tell me to eat, but I end up lying and saying I'm not hungry even though i could eat a whole dinner meal right then and there. I feel disgusting and horrible when I do eat, and I've considered throwing it back up but i never do. Help?!

 

Hey peaceluvmusic, you just need to change your attitude towards food. Right now you aren't eating because you think the weight will make you more fat. Why can't the food just nourish your body? Why does it have to add pounds? So look at food as your friend that keeps you full. If you start to truly believe you can eat whatever you want and stay the size you want, you will be able to. Ever see people in nice shapes eating a lot of food but never gaining weight? It's because of their thoughts about food. Hope this helps! Xoxo

I hate this stupid website. All it's about is '' Oh, you have to be under 70 pounds. You have to be a cheerleader. Oh, you don't like boys, you're crazy!!!'' Because of this stupid __________ website, you caused me to become anorexic. Are you happy??? All of your ''tips''. Don't eat fruit - fruit has sugar in it. Don't eat carbs or meat or protein. In fact, don't eat anything at all!!! I'm fighting for my life right now. You have no idea what I'm going through. You caused me to lose my dream. Because of this eating disorder, I no longer can be the elite gymnast I was. This stupid mistake of coming to this website is probably going to cost me my whole life. Do me a favor and never post another single thing again or else I will personally sue you. And I mean it. Instead of blaming GL, please please please talk to someone about the issues you're facing. We DO have an idea what you're going through because we've been there - you need to talk to a trusted adult about what you feel when you look in the mirror, how you feel when you see food or eat food, and you need to accept help to overcome this <3 The point is not to deprive your body of food - it's to treat your body well by giving it the healthy, well-balanced fuel it needs <3

Hey girl, your mom has a valid point: your bod is changing so it's so important you take care of it and not deprive it of the nutrients it needs. The best way to feel your best in general, however, is to exercise and eat healthy.

MOD MOD MOD MOD! Alright, so I've had the white discharge stuff for like, a year and a half now! And I haven't gotten my period yet. I've researched it and with the white discharge comes, in 6 months or less, your period. But, I haven't gotten me yet after a year and a half. I'm 13 and my one friend had it for 3 months then she got her period. What's wrong with me?

mod mod mod!!! so this summer i was trying to stay health and i also have stomach probelems so i had to write down everything i ate. it helped a lot! but now expecially after halloween i can't stop myself from eating. i know i have gained weight and i need to stop myself from over eating. i eat when im bored and even when im full. im not fat but im not skinny! how can i stop myself from over eating all the time? and possibly loose the extra weight i have gained?

 

Hey girl,

I would keep writing down what you eat and also limit yourself to one piece of Halloween candy a day. Also, you could start exercising some, even if you just start out with a walk around the neighborhood with your mom. Or, you and a friend could try doing some exercises. Make sure that you're eating healthy foods and try to get your parents on board with not keeping junk food in the house. Good luck!

mod od mod!!!!! i am soo sooo worried, today i found this sticky texture in my underwear, and i am really worried its my period coming! i soo dont want my period cuz we start swimming in gym soon, i would be afraid to tell my mom, and i am ONLY 12! i dont think ANYONE ELSE has it! help! thanks ;)


That is nomal it doesnt necessarily mean your period is coming right away although it be a sign you may get it soon in the future. You have to be open with your Mom and you have to ask her for advice on the subject or you will be unprepared for when the day comes. Believe me, she will undestand

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD!!!!!!!hi i am 11 and i am 56 inches and weigh 100 pounds everybody else is taller than me and is like so so skinny! they weigh like 60 pounds! i look fat when i stand next to my friends in gym class. Please don't say excercise and all that cause i try and i can't my throat can't take it i do not have asthma but it hurts when i run and excercise!!!!!!!!!!! I do eat helathy ithink.... how does this sound
Breakfast: cut up bananas and strawberries and a chocolate muffin with water
Lunch: Potato bread sandwhich with cheese and a clementine with a cookie
Dinner:hot pocket or some other random thing that is instant or can be microwaved
Dessert: three mini candies like super mini ones or a cookie or a small bowl of icecream with a banana.
do i eat too much? help me! i look so fat compared to everyone and all the guys call me fat and ugly. So my only defense is to tell the teacher. Now i am known as the "Snitch" sorry i just poured out my whole life story to u! thnx




Hey girl, you don't eat too much, it's just you may not be eating the right things. Microwaved meals like Hot Pockets are full of sodium and aren't too great for you. In this case, it's quality — if you eat fruit, salad, chicken, etc. you can eat more than just one Hot Pocket and get the same number of calories as just one Hot Pocket. That said, I think you should talk to your doctor. By no means should you eat less than you are now; it's important you balance physical activity in with a healthy diet and your doctor can best help you craft a plan to do that.

MOD! MOD! MOD! MOD! MOD! MOD! I'm so embarassed because all my friends are small and skinny and im large and I'm only ten in fith grade. I'm pretty ebarrased and even my boyfriend is skinny. Hey babe,

First off, take one DEEP breath. Then, look in the mirror. Don't let any negative things cross your mind: instead, point out all of your positive characteristics! Both physical and deeper traits are fair game. Anything you like about yourself, tell yourself about it! Then, focus on you. Give yourself a day where you pamper yourself with a home manicure, bubble bath, your fave movie, etc. Then make a vow to get healthy - not just skinny. It's actually better for your body {and easier to lose extra weight/build muscle} if you eat full, well-balanced meals rather than deprive yourself of meals at all! Try checking out the articles in our Health & Fitness section of the website for tips on how to get active each day and create a healthier diet. You can totally do this - it just takes dedication and confidence in yourself that you can do it! I know you can... now you need to know you can too <3

I have missed a lot of school and I don't knowhow I will be able to catchup! I already have a study buddyto call but its not the same without the real work. If I do not complete all that I have missed will it effect my report card?

It will probably affect your report card if you do not complete all of the work - but there are things you can do to help yourself beforehand so you make sure that you get it all done! It's good that you have a study buddy; however, the best thing to do in this situation is probably to talk to your teachers and let them know that you're concerned about your grades. They may be able to stay after school to help you catch up or explain some of the things that you missed. Letting them know earlier rather than later is best, because each day you wait, you are getting closer to your report card grades. You could ask your teachers about how certain assignments will affect your grades. You could also talk to your parents about the situation, and they could help you look into getting a tutor to help you catch up. Or, if they know about the subjects, they may be able to help you themselves. After talking to your teachers and parents, plan out a schedule that will help you get all of the work done. Good luck!

MOD Ok, is this over weight? I'm 13, 5'5 and my weight goes between 170 and 195 pounds all the time and I hate it? I won't change in the locker room, and its frustrating trying to find big cheap and cute clothes! Please help. Also if it helps I do have my period. IDK if the will help but....

 

Hey girl if you dont want to change in the locker room you might want to start exercising and eating healthy so that you can feel better about yourself and confident enough to change in there with everyone else. It does not matter how much you weigh but it does matter that you feel beautiful and good about yourself. So put in the effort if you would like to see some results Smile

Hey girlie, I don't think so. It's dependent on your body/bone structure and muscle weight so even though you weigh more you wouldn't necessarily look heavier.

I am 13, almost 5,5 and weigh.....150 something Frown HELP Me she is my friend and i don't want her to not be but i WANT HER TO STOP and RIGHT NOW!! She can't STAND for me to do ANYTHING better than her.
She has a boyfriend (Who i don't like. He really only likes her body and it's obvious and I don't want the jerk with her not that i'm trying to break them up) and is acting like i'm not good enough to have a boyfriend while in reality i don't WANT one! We have this stupid thing in P.E. its called circut training and we have stations that we have 2 do like hoola hoops, wall sits, jumping jacks, running, push ups, squats, and sometimes that ladder thing guys do in football practice. i hate it so much plus we have 2 run for 7 minutes on top of that. Hey girl, honestly, if your acne is really bad, I suggest going to a dermatologist. Different products work for different people and they can prescribe products that will work your skin. Believe me, if I knew a universal treatment that magically cleared skin for everyone, I would be the first to tell you. Dealing with acne is more or less trial and error.

thats soo weird im just like that only im 12 and in the 7th gr we just did a bmi test and im over weight im 5 ft tall too and im 127 lb it sucks cuz everyday for lunch i eat a salid and i exercise for like 3 hrs everyday and i cant lose anything

i am 13 and 200 lbs. i have been trying to loose weight but i loose it one second and gain it back the next. i am so embarised about my weight that i lie to my mom how much i weight because i dont want her to go over board on a diet plan. and i would really like to go see a doctor but i jst dont feel comfortable around other people being as big as i am now. and i 5'5 1/2. im scared. i havent had a boyfriend since Febuary and i dont have as many friends as i did before i moved. Can someone give me advice)=

 

Hey girl even though it will be hard for you you definitely should be honest with your mom and talk to your doctor because he will help you do it in a way that is good for your lifestyle and he will know a healthy approach to losing weight. Even though it will be difficult, you will be happy that you did it when its over. Dont be embarassed either!

OMG i have the EXACT same prob-no exagerating! ithink i know why i have problems-wen i was in second grade my dad would drive me home from skool evryday cuz we lived too far from the skool to ride the bus and EVERY SINGE DAY we would stop at 7 11 and get a bag of chips and a slurpee nd wen i got home i owuld ask if i could have a few pieces of candy too. i was too young to realize how it might affect me but becAUSE of it, i have too much bodyfat, and i'm short, doesn't help./ i just started volleyball nd i used to run x country but i have knee probs tht were too bad for running Frown now i know i'm gonna talk to the doc

MOD MOD MOD help I have a horrible habbit of shoplifting i can't afford anything because my dad won't give me money cause he has to pay the bills and my mom doesn't have a job i always steal makeup and jewelry so i can look bettter i sometimes steal other tuff too like i went to this amusment park and stole several hundred dollars worth of stuff i can't stop! my boyfriend also steals with me my friend got me doing this and i can't stop! help me!!!

 

 

Hey girl this is both wrong and dangerous for you to be involved with. The best thing for you to do is to admit what you have done to your parents and take the things back to the stores you  have stolen from WITH an apology. If you do not stop you will get caught sooner or later,  and most people start off stealing small stuff then moving onto larger stuff. it sounds like your boyfriend and your friend are not a very good influence either and you might want to cut off all potentially dangerous relationships you have. The next thing to do is ask your parents for help and guidance.

Hey girl! I dont know any good books off the top of my head but something you could try is keeping a journal of what you are eating it really helps lay it out for you and then you can see what you need to cut back on. Snacking does more damage than you think so when you do snack make sure its something not bad for you like pretzels or apple slices with peanut butter. Eating healthy is so hard ah!

MOD how often should i deep condition my hair if i just use like the aussie deep conditioner or pantene or something and not like in a salon?

 

Depending on how badly you need it, you should deep condition once every 2 weeks or once a month!

I have the sam prob that you do cause one time i went on wii fit and did the body test and it told me i was over weight. thats when i didn't trust wii any more cause i thought it was lying but when i lookd in the mirror, i knew it was. but a few months later went on and it said i was helthy weight. my point is if you mak ating right and excesising a regular thing (as you already have) you may not notice it but othrs will.
And you mentioned you have no confedance? you had the confidance to even wright to GL. that's confidance in my book cuase I could NEVER do this in a million years!
Just, try not to mind what others think of you. and, if guys, only care about how you look on the outside they wont truely like you for who you are.
