Advice

My not-so sweet BF uses salty language. How do I deal?

I recently got a boyfriend. Everything was going fine until I went over to his house to hang out. When I was over there, he cussed a lot and did some other things that made me feel uncomfortable. I want to break up with him, but I still want to be friends. What should I do?

Hey girl! I’m so sorry to hear that your BF transformed into one huge jerk oh-so quickly. To me, though, it sounds like you’re dealing with a shy guy who doesn’t exactly understand how to be normal around girls.

When it comes down to it, guys get nervous and insecure around girls that they really like. They have a tendency to get so worked up that they end up falling apart when the stakes get high. I’m thinking your guy was too nervous to be himself around you, and the thought of having you over to his house made him anxious times a zillion.

My advice is to cut the guy some slack, especially since it was your first time hanging out at his place. And if you do decide to hang out again and he acts completely out of line, I agree that it’s time to break up. When doing so, though, try to be as truthful and good-natured as possible. Explain to him how he made you feel uncomfortable, and that you think you’d be better off as friends. That way you won’t completely hurt his feelings, and he’s more inclined to remain on good terms with you.
