CRUSHES

Advice

The perfect time to make a move on your crush

I have a guy friend I like. He told me he likes someone but won’t tell me who. He says he trusts me and has hinted that I might be his crush. He acts like he likes me when we hang out. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but how can I be sure before I say anything?

Dear Wants to Be Sure,
Feelings don’t come with guarantees, but it sounds as if your friendship might be warming up. Instead of risking a full-on confession of your emotions, look him in the eye when laughing at his joke or casually put your hand on his arm. Maybe hint that there’s a guy you like too. Yes, I’m encouraging you to flirt—but just enough so you can give him a green light and gauge his reaction. If things don’t go as well as you’d hoped? Appreciate the value of your friendship.
