CRUSHES

Longtime Love

I have had a crush on this guy for three years. He had a GF, and they broke up. He said he might go out with me when I got in high school. That's next year but they got back together and tomorrow is their two yr anniversary.
When I see them together I wanna cry. I have tried for to years to stop liking him and I cant. I cant stop thinking bout him or liking him! I'm obsessed he's all I think about. What do I do to forget him?

Hey Countrygurl,
I’m so sorry you’re in this position, it’s a total bummer when you like someone who doesn’t like you back. Getting over someone is super tough, but if they are celebrating their two-year anniversary, it sounds like they are in it for the long run…at least for the time being. I know it hurts, but you owe it to yourself to move on and be happy. Try to focus on hanging out with your girlfriends and getting to know other guys who will respect you and treat you fabulously.
Older guys have a complex where they think everything revolves around them and that they are the greatest thing to ever walk this green earth (we obviously know otherwise). If he is already in high school and you aren’t, chances are you two are at two entirely different stages in life, emotionally and socially. It is going to hurt for a while, let me just put that out there. I have been in love with a boy since my senior year in high school (I am a senior in college now). There is always that one guy you will always be hung up on. You just have to say to yourself, "I am worth more, and I deserve more."
You shouldn’t have to forget him to feel better, you just have to become comfortable with where you are in life and who you are as a person and acknowledge and accept his life decisions. If you two are meant to be together, it will pan out in your favor, but don’t put all your eggs in that basket. Maybe he and his GF will break up and he will still be interest in you and you can pursue something or maybe by that time you will be sooo over him and leave him in your dust. Whatever the case… DO NOT SIT AROUND WAITING, it’s a waste of your talent. High school is a chance to expand your boundaries, make meeting new people, getting involved in school activities and community events a priority and soon enough Joe Schmoe will be a tiny blip in your glamorous life.

xoxo,

Jana
