Who should pay: You or your date?

I have my first date in a week. We're going to see a movie and I want to know if I should let him pay for my ticket. My friend said he should, but my other friend said that that was wrong since it's the first date.
His Response: "I always pay for my date, if it’s a romantic occasion, because that to me is a clear indicator that I want it to be romantic,” says Drew, 17. “If he is any kind of a man, then yes he will. But in my mind, if the guy intentionally doesn't, he is either A. not much of a man, or B. saying he wants to be friends. If the girl is really insistent however, I shrug, say OK, and go about my business.”
Decoded: For guys, it’s considered gentlemanly when they pay for their date, so they usually do. They want to impress you and show you that they have manners, and paying for a ticket is a subtle way to do that.
Your Move: Even though Drew obviously thinks that a guy should pay for his date, always bring a little cash just in case and offer to split. If he wants to pay for the ticket, then let him because it will make him feel good. However, there are still some guys who don’t pay for their dates, and you should always be prepared for that.
